“In the Middle” is a broad story of Olympic medalist Terin Humphrey’s journey through life. It is a unique perspective of being “In the Middle” of gymnastics, careers, decisions, life, etc. Unlike most Olympians’ books; it is not a story about her Olympic journey, but life after the Olympics. Most athletes live their lives being only an athlete. Once they are finished, their lives change. They struggle with their life after the sport. Terin chronicles her experiences after the Olympics in hopes of helping others that are going through similar situations.
A terrible book. Terin is not a good writer and doesn't have anything to say except that she literally believes because she lost her job as an athlete rep with USAG (because of her own stupid comments on Facebook) that she's just as much a victim of Larry Nassar as the young ladies who were sexually abused.
I've never thought someone could be so obtuse and entitled, all while talking about how entitled and ungrateful other people are. The audacity of her decision to write a book is astounding.
This book is more of Humphrey’s victim mentality, even when she swears she’s not going to be a victim again. Narrative style is odd and nothing in this was necessarily a story that anyone will learn from.
I really enjoyed this book and reading more about Terin's life, both within gymnastics and afterwards. It's a quick read and I would have liked more, but it's well-written and very inspirational. 8 out of 10
