RTC but I can let you know now that this atmospheric debut needs to be on your TBR if:

• you longingly daydreamt yourself into the shoes of literature’s greatest gothic heroines (& their flowy gossamer night gowns)

• you just can’t resist falling for Byronic heroes

• you refuse to admit the exact number of times you’ve rewatched Crimson Peak because y i k e s

• you honestly think Alina should have taken the Darkling up on his offer to rule over Ravka

• using your phone’s flashlight to walk around yo

An amazing debut! I had the pleasure of reading an earlier version and it was the gothic romance I didn't know I needed. Lyndall's prose are exquisite and lure you in to keep reading more. I can't recommend this book enough for fans of Crimson Peak, gothic romance and fantastic storytelling.

And now I get to read a newer version!

I’ve had the privilege and pleasure of seeing this book grow, and I can’t wait to see it out in the Real World as a Real Book.
Lyndall’s prose is magical, the setting is enchanting, and the characters are captivating. LAKESEDGE will stay with you long after you finish it!
Edit: also, the kissing. I’m here for the kissing.

Thank you to Edelweiss and the publishers for this ARC.

Lakesedge promised us monster-y romance, death gods, a gothic manor, a cursed lake, and magic, and it DELIVERED. I devoured this book in a single night.

Lakesedge follows Violeta Graceling, a girl orphaned with her younger brother being raised by a religious woman who took them in, but Violeta’s younger brother, Arien, starts exhibiting signs of dark magic: shadows erupting during the night as he dreams, and the woman punishes them for it.

The Lord Under has blessed me in allowing me to read an early version of this ... and y'all are NOT ready for what is coming! I am a puddle of emotion down aisle 3. This gave me major Crimson Peak vibes with monster boys, fierce girls, a troubling lake, and a dark magic that will literally devour whatever gets in its way. 2021 can't come soon enough! ...more

I randomly stumbled across a small snippet of writing this author posted on twitter in September 2019. I was so in love with it that I bookmarked it, hoping to see a book from her in the future.

Just checked back in and this book right here is her debut novel.

”I let the power burn through me. Let it burn away all of the helplessness and uncertainty in one brilliant flare before it dims, settling back into the barest glimmer.”

This book was everything I hoped for in a YA, gothic romance. It was dark, eerie, and will have you hooked after page one!

Violeta was my favorite type of heroine. Loyal, determined

Disclaimer: this book is literally everything I love so the following will just be me screaming.

How do you feel about monster boys? How about not one, but TWO monster boys? We have truly been so blessed by LAKESEDGE.

Lyndall's prose is lush and masterful. The atmosphere is deliciously gothic and romantic. Once I started reading I could not stop, and I finished it in two sittings. The protagonist, Violeta, is both gentle and badass. She will do anything to protect her younger brother, Arien, and

This tasty morsel of a book full of dark waters, family curses, summer bonfires, lakeside summoning rituals, weary boys with monsters inside them, and gods of death who don't play fair was the perfect companion to me when I was feeling down. Leta feels like such a real teen girl, all big emotions and bravery and self-consciousness and a fierce desire for agency! A strong, lyrical debut from a rising star to watch. ...more

This book was everything I hoped for when I picked it up. Lush. Gothic. Deeply romantic. Troubling. Devastating. Full of monsters and darkness and treachery. Clipstone expertly weaves such a compelling tale with characters who leap off the page and a world that feels so deftly crafted and real. Also, the villain is so freaking fascinating to me. I LOVED all his scenes and want the movie of this book NOW so I can see those visually written scenes come to life. And that ending has me with ALLLL th ...more

We use the word 'atmospheric' a lot when it comes to describing fantasy books, but oh my goodness, this book is SO deserving of the word. It's lush and deep, but it calls you deeper and deeper so that when the book is finished, you wonder if you're going to find your way back home. I don't want to say too much plot-wise because it's a joy to watch the plot unfold, but fans of Margaret Rogerson and S. Jae-Jones will be thrilled to step into a new world that has threads of familiarity. ...more

I was fortunate enough to get an early look at Lyndall Clypstone's captivating LAKESEDGE, and I'm so glad I did! Fans of gothic YA romance will absolutely love this eerie, atmospheric 2021 debut about a girl dead set on doing whatever it takes to protect those she loves most, even if it means blurring the lines between this world and the next or facing off with anyone-and I mean ANYONE-standing in her way... and they'll adore the monster boy who tries to warn her against it! ...more

When traipsing on over to write this review I typed Lakesedge into the search bar. As anyone who knows me will tell you, that is an endorsement in and of itself. I was singularly focused on communicating why you need this book.

I am never focused.

It's not hard to guess: I gave this gorgeous debut five stars. Now I'll regale you with all the reasons why.

Lyndall's prose is luxurious. Poetic yet easy to parse. Like wrapping yourself in the softest furs and magically knowing no animals were harmed

I've had the privilege of reading Lakesedge early, and I absolutely cannot recommend it enough!

Lyndall's prose is vivid and sumptuous, and every scene setting is to DIE for. Even after finishing, I find myself daydreaming of naps in the garden at Lakesedge Estate, with flowers in my hair and a little book of romantic poetry in hand. It's that gorgeous. And, what's better, it manages to be as delightfully gritty and gothic as it is lush. Monster romance fans, you will be liiiiving for this book!

I heard gothic lake novel and was ready to read it that second. I know that's kind of a running theme with me, finding out one or two aspects of a book and being ready to read it right away. But it's true every time! And a gothic lake novel definitely sounds like it would be right up my alley. Plus, it is about Leta, the main character, arriving at a mansion and expecting to find a monster inside, a boy who drowned his entire family. But neither is what they seem to be. I sounded i

At first I was a little hesitant on reading this book and I am usually not a fan of haunting materials and the only reason that I even considered reading this book was that it came highly recommended by our teen book club and they said I will really enjoy it so I had to find out for myself.
