The Best Man Wins

Rate this book
It’s a battle to the final I do…

He was supposed to be a simple one-night-stand to get over my ex.

He ticked all the boxes: smoking hot stranger, eyes as dark as his sense of humor, and no strings attached. He took me up to his room and made me forget all about my heartbreak.

But when my wedding planning company assigns me my next case, I find myself face-to-face with my hot stranger yet again.

His name? Braxton West.

His role? The groom’s best man.

His mission? To break up the couple before they say their vows.

A billionaire like Braxton West, I’m sure, is used to getting what he wants.

But he’s going to have to get cozy with failure, because I won’t let anything or anyone ruin this perfect wedding.

Even if he is making it hard to tear my eyes away from his bulging...biceps

Can I keep this wedding on track...and stop myself from falling victim to a Braxton distraction...?

A note from Adora: Get ready to laugh, cry, and stay up...all night! This standalone story includes lots of steamy scenes, one grumpy bad boy with a heart of gold, and one spirited wedding planner who will stop at nothing to make sure everyone gets their happily-ever-after!

Stopping the Saboteur

Sad and lonely Susie has spent the past many months healing her broken heart. She takes great, dirty strides in accomplishing that the night she meets Braxton.

'Father, Son, and the Holy CrossFit, he’s ripped.' -- Susie Posy

The book is more steamy than funny but either way, it is quite entertaining! 🔥💜🔥🎉 I really enjoyed all of the crazy that pops up with Susie, Braxton, Thom, Ray, Cora, and the rest of this eclectic cast of characters.

I read and listened to the book. The single narrator, Blair Thatcher, did a good job with all of the voices and accents. I liked her for Susie and Thom and many of the others but a deeper voice for Braxton would've been more what I expected for him.

Story: 4 stars
Narration: 3.5 stars

It was a good read. Susie and Braxton met for the first time with him swooping in the save her from two guys who were harassing her. They went back to his place only for her to realize that's he is the brother of the bride and best man for the wedding she's in charge of planning. He is dead set on making sure the wedding doesn't happen while she's determined to get the bride and groom happily married without anything going wrong. Who'll win?

This was a good book, but it wasn't great. I read this book because I saw a tiktok. (I'm sorry to say this, but as usual, most tiktok recommendations let me down). The tiktok was a snippet from the book, a scene where she is trying to stop him from ruining the wedding, so she tricks him into thinking they are going to have sex again and ties him to the headboard of the bed and then runs away to work on the wedding. He couldn't loosen the knots so instead he just breaks the headboard. HE BROKE THE FREAKING HEADBOARD! That convinced me to read this book in a matter of seconds. Unfortunately, it did not live up to what I was expecting. I'm nor saying it was a bad book, it just wasn't mindblowing. There were good and bad things about this book. For starters, it felt a little bland to me. I feel bad for saying that but it's true.

There were small things about the writing. Specifically, the sex scenes. This might just be a personal preference, but there are just certain words I can't read in smut. Here are some parts that I highlighted as an example:

He slides his hand down my pants, inside my panties, and I gasp when his long fingers part my sex and glide over my slick labia

Braxton warms me up, reaching under my dress to cup my sex. He pets two fingers over my petals, and I heat up quickly, my blood pulsing. “Do you always get this wet this quickly,” he asks, “or is this just for me?”

“I want you.”
“Tough.”
Now she looks truly confused. “What?”
“I think you’ve forgotten who’s in control here.”

See, I'd like to think that I'm a girl who is relatively understanding. I get that some people just doesn’t like the word pussy, so if you're not comfortable writing it, that's fine. What really got me was the amount of times this girl's vagina was caller her sex. I feel like there is so much words that could have been used in place, or at the very least, not use 'sex' that much. The last quote I added was just because it made me laugh. Not a laugh in the that was funny type of way though. She told him that she wanted him and homeboy told her she forgot who's in control. My laugh was the 'he really thought he did something' kind of laugh.

With that being said, I also got the give some compliments to the book. The characters might not have had that much chemistry (in my opinion) but they definitely had cute banter. I love when characters know exactly how to respond to other characters and match there energy and I got some that here. So I'm also going to give some examples of that.

“I like you.”
I have to pause for a moment to process his words. “You like me?”
“Yes. I like you.” He spits out the words like an accusation. “I hate everything, but somehow, someway, I like you. I like your…smile. I like how your hair gets frizzy in the morning. I like how you find the silver lining to everything. You tell when I’m being an ass—which would normally irritate the heck out of me—but when you do it, I listen. And it makes me want to be less…I don’t know.” He’s borderline frenetic, raking his fingers through his hair.
I fill in the blanks helpfully. “Less of an ass?”
He drops his arms and turns to me. Sincerely, he says, “I’ve never felt this way before. Ever.”

“I’m very cute. And you like it.”
“I’m never going to hear the end of that, am I?”
I shake my head. “No.”

Context for this next quote. Ace is her ex fiance who left her at the alter

“Hi.” Ace smiles and extends a palm toward Braxton. “Ace Soren. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Braxton takes Ace’s hand and shakes it. His eyes, however, are locked on Ace, and a flicker of understanding crosses his expression. “You’re Ace?”
A cocky smile draws across Ace’s mouth. “That’s me.”
“The Ace Soren?” Uh-oh. I don’t like the look of that storm brewing behind Braxton’s eyes.
Ace lets out a breathy, albeit somewhat frustrated laugh. “I can give you my autograph after I finish up here.”
“That won’t be necessary.” Braxton pulls up his sleeves. Purposefully, he curls them above his elbows. “I’m going to hit you now.”
“What—?”
Braxton swings his fist into Ace’s face. My hand flies to my mouth, and I let out a short screech.

“My flight leaves tonight at eight,” Susie says. “What about you?”
“Nine thirty.”
“Look at that.” She smiles, but it’s a sad smile. “We just miss each other.”
She’s distracted, looking away, and I tug her hand to pull her focus back to me. “Are you nervous?” I ask.
“Honestly?” Her eyes flicker up to me. “I’m a little worried that we’ll never see each other again. I mean…the wedding is done. We have no reason to.”
I glance back at her and pause at that. “You have my jacket,” I tell her. “I’ll have to come around to pick that up sometime.”
Susie laughs at that and tugs the jacket tighter around her. “True,” she says. “As long as I have something you need.”
“You have my heart. And I’m pretty sure I need that.” The confession leaves my lips effortlessly.
Susie’s eyes grow wide and hopeful as she looks up at me. A smile inches up her lips, and she grazes my chest with her fingertips. “I must be rubbing off on you…the tin man has a heart after all.”
Enough of tiptoeing around what I want. “Hush, Dorothy.” I cup her face in my hand and close my mouth over hers.

I found those moments cute, hot or funny. I was so happy when Braxton punched Ace. I loved the way he gave a warning right before as well. Those parts had me smiling.

I included those quotes in my review so maybe it would help you make a decision if you want to give the book a chance. At the end of the day, not everyone is gonna like what you like. This book may not have been for me, but it's probably someone's favourite.

This story had its moments when it was cute. Mostly though, I struggled to get through it. For starter's even though the bride's brother was bankrolling the wedding (he more or less raised her), he doesn't even like the groom. Which leads me to wonder just how he ended up being the best man in the first place. Maybe that's me being overly picking, but there were a lot of little instances like this that just didn't add up. Like how he throws the bride's ring (box and all) out of the window when they are outside of a bar, but yet manages to find just the ring in the backseat. Or how Susie nearly falls to her death when the loft breaks, only to have sex with Braxton on the same loft a few minutes later.

I think one of the biggest issues I have with this one is that there is so much potential with Braxton and Susie, but I don't feel like we ever really got to know them as a couple. Sure we know they both have pasts they don't want to talk about, and things they would rather forget that shaped them. I get that. But aside from what happened in the past, I don't feel like there was any real character development beyond their pasts (minus a couple of little things here and there).

Honestly, quite a bit of this story read more as pornography with very little of anything substantial in between. The characters never really do much to showcase how they feel about each other - other than have sex, although we're supposed to believe they have this great chemistry and fall in love with each other (even them declaring their feelings came as a bit of a what the hell just happened moment).

All things considered, this is the type of novel that is going to appeal to a lot of people. It just wasn't for me. However, I would give this author another chance.

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

This was a good read. Susie is the wedding planner for a big wedding. She has a one night stand with a hot guy. Too bad he is the bride's brother and wants to ruin this wedding. Luckily in the end everything works out for everyone.

Spoilers? Possibly yes?!

I wasn’t so sure about this book because of how it started. It started a little dry until I got a few chapters in that’s where it got good. I was glad. Because the book description caught my attention, and I wanted to read it because of the description and title.

This book was based solely on Braxton and Susie though everything revolves around Braxton's sister Cora and her fiancée Ray.

I was glad that Susie found ways for Braxton not to ruin his sister's wedding though she (Susie) had Mandy to worry about too. Not only that, the day before the wedding, the bride (Cora) wasn’t so sure what she wanted to do. I was glad that Susie talked some sense into her and got her to understand she did and do care for Ray and vise versa.

She also got Braxton on board with his sister getting married. He didn’t hate Ray after what Susie said at the diner to both he and Cora, which both needed to here. Though I also thought Susie's ex-boyfriend/fiancée was horrible. He (Ace) was trying to get her back after he walks out on her. I was glad that she left him for the wolves to show him that she moved on to something better. Since he thought he could get her back but ended up looking like a fool when she got Braxton out of jail and left him.

Not only that, I was glad that Letty lady didn’t fire Susie because regardless, she still did a good job at that wedding, and everything went well. Even if she wasn’t there. I think nothing wouldn’t have gone to plan because I believe both Braxton and Cora needed her there and would’ve wondered and went looking for her. Since Cora didn’t look so much at Thom or that other chick, I can’t remember her name for some reason 🤣...

But in the end everybody a happy ending except for Ace lol, even Mandy knew that Ray was happy and didn’t ruin the wedding. That all that mattered. You live and learn in the end!!!

A fun easy read with hot romance and mishaps galore.
It doesn't dig too deep into the characters' issues, however this doesn't feel like you're short-changed, a lot of resolve is implied satisfactorily.
I recommend this book!

This story is funny, dramatic, emotional and romantic. Susie is a wedding planner and Braxton is the best man and brother to the bride. Braxton is not happy about his sister’s wedding but is very happy to meet her wedding planner. I enjoyed this whole book and recommend it to everyone who enjoys spunky heroines and engaging characters. I received a free ARC of this book, but this is my own voluntary review.

for me

I’m so upset about this book. This book was really good. It was becoming a five star read but then it wasn’t. First and most annoying the MC should not have stayed friends with thom. I absolutely hated him. He was horrible he backstabbed her which he could have simply given her a heads up and then told her ex where she was. His excuse was he bullied me bullshit. He even says he was on a power trip. I don’t find that funny or whatever but compelty horrible. It kind of ruin the book for me. I also wish we got to see the couple connect more. Like the MC relationship was mostly sex. They only really had one real conversation. I wish we got more deep conversations and got to see that connections more. I would have overlooked this if it wasn’t for thom. Like that’s two many for me to overlook and I hate thom too much. I’m so sad because without that it would be a 4 but thom is horrible and i jsut wish there was more deep conversations. It was good and I want to give it a 4 but I can’t. I will bump it up a little though. 3.5/4

How to Plan the Perfect Everlasting Love Wedding

“Perfect” should be the term used to describe the desired outcome for any wedding planner’s wedding. And, “perfect” described wedding planner Susie’s last wedding—until it didn’t. But, the perfection could have been predicted. Her fall from grace as a wedding planner came not long after her own fiancé jilted her at the altar. So, at the next wedding she planned where all should be “perfect,” the “perfect” wedding the planner got drunk, had a public meltdown, including karate-chopping the “perfect” wedding cake, and she threw up on the “perfect” bride’s father. And, when the whirlwind meltdown was all captured on video, and that video went viral on the Internet, well, that was just “perfect”.

So, Susie took a year’s hiatus from wedding planning: It’s difficult to be entrusted with a wedding when the label of “bride attack girl” is being bandied about the Internet in association with your image.

But now, Susie has been given a second chance to plan a client’s dream wedding by her boss, Letty. And, Susie is being supported with the help of the Everlasting Love’s dream team—Thom and Marlee—to make wedding magic. The challenge is that this wedding is taking place in 2 weeks in the boondocks of South Carolina. And, there is another small complication, not very important at all—Susie has unknowingly had very close, very personal, perhaps even intimate relations with the bride’s brother.

Susie’s mission—and she has chosen to accept that mission at all costs—is to put together the perfect wedding for Cora West, up-and-coming designer and the future bride of Ray Dalton of South Carolina. The bride is sister to successful award-winning winery owner, Braxton West—the same Braxton West who wants to do everything in his power to stop his sister’s wedding—the same Braxton West with whom Susie had unknowingly engaged in that very inappropriate sexual encounter.

And when her ex, an up and coming movie star, shows up in the midst of the wedding—the very man whose actions flipped her world—well, that’s just “perfect,” especially when she learns that the bride, less than 24 hours before her wedding—has run. Adora Crooks leads her reader on an entertaining jaunt through the highs and lows of weddings—while falling in love with the bride-to-be’s brother. The romance is a fast, fun dash to the alter for one couple and the anticipation of future nuptials to come.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review ARC, but I enjoyed it so much that a bought a copy for my “read-again” list.

This is the first book I have read from this author and would rate it a 3.75. It was a quick, entertaining tale of a wedding planner that fell from grace trying to get back in the game. Then fate threw her a curve ball by putting her in the path of a handsome stranger who wasn't going to be a stranger soon. Can she keep it together or is she fighting a losing battle personally and professionally?

I liked the potential of this book but there were a few things that bothered me which knocked a few points off. It had steamy parts without using foul or sexy words which is almost creepy (i.e. petals, manhood, mound...sorry, not sexy while doing play-by-play of sex). There was so much focus on the couple getting married that it took away from getting to know our lead characters. Braxton and Susie's coupledom doesn't feel deep, they're really just getting started and then the story is over. If you are looking for a read just for the entertainment factor, this is a good book to pick up. If you need all the loops closed on story points and background, you might feel like you're left hanging a bit and it's HFN not HEA. They skimmed over Cora & Braxton's mom, what really impacted their feelings on love/marriage, etc. I fall into the loop-closer category but I can still recognize that others may read to just enjoy the basic story. This is a voluntary review of an advance reader copy.

★ Delightful rom-com ★

—>>> Sneaking off the morning after a hot-but-one-off encounter in order to get over the nasty ex who had left her coldly at the alter did no good for avoiding the man Susie had no intentions of ever seeing again…because, as her luck would have it, she runs into him again soon thereafter. Susie was aghast when she realizes that the man from last night was THE Braxton West…as in “the billionaire brother of the bride-to-to be whose wedding plans are in her hands!" Susie now finds herself with a lot on her plate: 1) Trying her utmost best to pull off a successful, dream-come-true wedding to prove to herself and to her boss that she still has what it takes in the business after her non-wedding breakdown; and 2) Keep Braxton from ruining his little sister’s most important day, just because he does not believe that the fiancé is good enough for her. Both Susie and Braxton do their very best to offset each other’s shenanigans/efforts, but in the end, their feelings and respect for each other go up a few notches, until they themselves are experiencing the “wedding effect,” too.

This was a delightful rom-com to read!

This is a fun premise so I was excited to read this story. I’m a sucker for a good wedding planner story but Braxton wasn’t my favorite. I really liked Susie at first and wanted to like him, but he’s very stiff and closed off. I didn’t feel like I knew him much better at the end than I did when he was introduced, which makes it tough to get into the story. Susie was sweet and fun, but a huge pushover, so much so that she became frustrating. I’m not big on helpless doormats as heroines but she couldn’t stand up to her ex or her backstabbing friend. I was hoping to see her toughen up and start putting people in their places but it never happened.

I didn’t completely hate it but the characters just weren’t likeable enough for me to care.

This book is kinda like my favorite kind of BBQ sauce... partly sweet and partly spicy. Some of the spicy parts were a tad unbelievable, though. Or maybe I'm just an old-fashioned fuddy-duddy. The idea of a woman who "has never done this sort of thing" suddenly engaging in hot sex with a stranger she knows absolutely nothing about... in his hotel room, yet... struck me as over the top. (I mean... couldn't he have at least taken her out for coffee first, or something...?) And EEK! They don't even use a condom!

Ahem.

Still, once we get past those initial "bumps in the night," their subsequent meetings... and um, "bumps"... provide for some mild and sometimes steamy entertainment. Her goal? To plan the perfect wedding for his sister. His goal? To stop the wedding from ever happening. What could possibly go wrong?

It's a fast read, plenty long on heat, but shorter on humor than I would've liked. Bottom line, the story is entertaining, but may make your eyebrows raise in disbelief on more than one occasion.

I fell in love with this book from the beginning. The adventures of Susie and Braxton are extremely entertaining. They are such an awesome couple that I couldn't get enough of. You'll be completely captivated with this book from start to finish. I couldn't manage to put it down until the end. Miss Adora went all out with this book, and I hope this couple has more surprises in store. Braxton has such a kind heart that had me falling in love with him. And Susie didn't let anything bring her down which I completely love. This book will go down in my top ten of the year. You'll be laughing, sad, and angry on second to the next. I had a complete blast reading this book. I couldn't get enough and I hope you won't either. I received a free copy of this book from the author and reviewed voluntarily.

A fantastic flawless funny read... Oh my, you can't make this stuff up...a wedding planner who got left at the altar on her wedding day, a grumpy billionaire that's shelling out moolah for his sister's wedding to someone he deems unworthy. He'd had a one night stand with said wedding planner, nursing her broken heart, that neither of them could forget & then they reconnect when she's the professional wedding planner for his sister's forthcoming nuptials that he's at pains to sabotage. Things heat up between them, HOT! but he comes to respect her & that then turns into so much more. This is flawlessly written & I am adding this author to my favourites list. I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.

This is a sexy story between a wedding planner and the best man/brother of the bride. I smiled quite a bit as a result of situations they would go through and the good banter. I have read (and liked) Adora's ménage books and found the writing in this book has improved with more clever sentences and an excellent job setting up scenes. There are a LOT of sexy times, so beware if that is not your thing. The only thing I was not crazy about was some of the descriptors used during those parts.
The story was executed well and made enjoyable with humor and with some surprising parts. I would recommend The Best Man Wins if you are in the mood for a fun read with a lot of steam.
Thank you to the author for providing an advanced copy to read. All opinions are mine alone.

Wow what’s not to love in this super funny romantic comedy

Suzie is a wedding planner getting over her own heartbreak and proving she is capable she meets Braxton the best man for his sisters wedding at a bar while trying to get over heartbreak by getting under someone new
Fortunately for suzie she realises who braxton is before they can go fully down and dirty and rushes out leaving the normally cold braxton wondering what he did wrong
Fast forward to the sisters wedding planning and meeting in person again and properly the attraction is off the charts along with braxtons need to derail suzies perfectly planned wedding
Will he succeed, will love succeed and what happens when suzies heartbreak walks through the door
Read on for the perfect uplifting summer read

This was my first Adora Crooks's book. Susie and Braxton's story is hilarious, and steamy! Braxton, the grumpy groom’s best man, and the bride's brother, is protective, and handsome. He is determined to break up the couple before the marriage. Susie, a wedding planner, is feisty, and smart. She is determined to stop Braxton ruining the wedding. Susie and Braxton are hilarious together, and they share a sizzling chemistry. The supporting characters have an important part in this story. Some scenes are hilarious! I liked the twists and turns, the friendship, and the family bonds in this story. Blair Thatcher did a great job with the narration. If you like Romantic Comedy, this one is for you. I enjoyed it.

I loved this romance read / listen. Well written with smooth flowing storyline that was engaging and fun. Narration was perfectly done with accents and tone / pitch changes that distinguished the characters. Brilliantly done! I loved our main characters as well as the supporting one. The character interactions were entertaining and fun. Braxton and Susie are an opposites but the attraction is strong. They meet initially not knowing how their soon to be futures are going intermingle. Fun, steamy and heartwarming. Love scrooge meets wedding planner in love with love!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Susie Posy, "wedding planner extraordinaire", was given a second chance, a second chance at her job as a wedding planner, this is it, her final chance.... After her failed marriage, and meltdown Susie knows it's her final chance, and she's determined to make the Dalton/West wedding the best thing she's ever done.... And then she meets Braxton West... The best man and brother of the bride... the man she met and spent the night (almost) with.

Braxton West will do anything for his sister. That includes saving her from something he believes is a mistake. He doesn't think she should be marrying that country hick she's engaged to and is determined to break up the wedding.

This is war! Susie only has one chance to prove to her boss that she's got things under control, and despite what Braxton wants she's going to make this wedding happen, but can they fight the attraction to each other?

This was an ok story... not the best enemies to lovers story I've read, but it was a middle of the road affair for me.

I can’t finish this one. I’ve read a lot of smut in my day (this year) but I can’t finish this. There is such a strong concept for this book but it’s so poorly executed. Pair that with the main male character being named fucking Braxton??? Might as well have named the main female character Hicks bc this fucking HURTS to read.

If you’re looking for a sample to understand how poor the writing is, look no further:

“His finger pirouettes inside of me, hitting my pleasure center. I can’t stop myself now; I’m undulating into his hand, overwhelmed.”

Really? You’re undulating? And his finger fucking WHAT?

DNF.

What a cute story. I love steamy rom coms. Adora Crooks did a wonderful job on this. We have the recently left at the alter wedding planner Susie, she is adorable and all about getting true love at the end of each wedding for the bride and groom. Of course, everything has to be magical for the “I do” moment. Stage left, enter the Bride’s
Brother Braxton. Cool New Yorker with money in the bank. He’s determined that his little sister is not going to marry a southern bumpkin in Braxton‘s
Eyes. Of course this puts Susie and Braxton in each other’s path. Loved it! and HEA is had by all! Laugh out Loud funny.

This story brings out a lot of emotion. All the main characters have things in their life that caused them pain and they struggled with dealing with them in their own way. Their lives are intertwined and they needed each other to heal, move on and allow themselves to be happy. The story is emotional, interesting and relatable to things people may go through in real life. I enjoyed reading it.

The Miracle Of True Love:
By Korkoi -
This is a wonderful story that is filled with suspense and a few interesting twists, that push the characters out of their comfort zones, so they could make life changing decisions. The storyline was fun, whimsy, complicated and mesmerizing, which captivates your attention to the point where you can’t put the book down, once you start reading it.

I really loved this book. The wedding storyline is full of humor as Susie pulls off getting the wedding together with a lot of help while getting to know Braxton the Brides brother. This is one fun book as one thing after another goes on.Sometimes wrong sometimes really funny. This book is hard to put down once I started reading it because it was so good. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and gave my honest opinion.

Happily Ever-After...

Everyone wants their happy ever-after. As little girls, we dream of our perfect wedding day. This is where Suzie comes in. It's her job to make sure that special day is perfect. What happens when the "best man" is just as determined to keep the day from happening? Plenty of laughs, steamy thoughts and enough chemistry to light up any cathedral! Loved this one!!
