Danny Lester’s dreams of becoming a professional footballer were over before he was old enough to go to a match by himself. Now he’s separated from his wife and son, working in a job he can barely tolerate and living in a flat not much bigger than a six-yard box.

Things can’t get much worse. Then he bumps into Billy Peacock, the playboy Premier League superstar who started off in the same junior team as Danny.

Billy’s arrogance leads Danny to tell a little white lie that has consequences he could never have imagined. Both men are taken on a trip down memory lane where they meet players from their past and are reminded why they fell in love with the beautiful game in the first place.

Very, very funny book. Pick this up if you enjoy reading about football and lads being lads. It also has a touch of gentleness for those of us who like that too.
