Read for a student project (Polari elements), and I really could live without it.
Some ideas - watch "My Generation", a documentary with Michael Caine, make sure you get the pop culture references (including places one travels to in order to have sexual (homosexual) adventures, rhyming slang?, Julian is more feminine-coded, which is another source of humour.
How bold! This books is c'est magnifique (that's your actual French). Fun book sharing the sketches of Julian and Sandy and how they popularised the use of several Polari phrases. Highly recommended especially if you have read Paul Barker's Fantabulousa!
