What an enjoyable little novella this turned out to be. Quick and easy to read, it appeals to both Adult and Young Adult audiences alike.
Leaving the safety of their dome, young female protagonist Maz and male sidekick Hap encounter a plethora of dangerous situations and killer robots in their quest to steer the fate of humanity in an entirely new direction.

It is a dystopian novella set amidst ash-bots, domes, existence, and humankind. The book kickstarts with showing a warm friendship between its protagonist Maz and her best friend Hap. Their verbal exchanges amused me. And then they set on an adventurous journey to save humanity. In their exploration, they come across Mitch, the chosen one, and together they embark on a mission. Maz is a brilliant designer and clearly meant for more. She yearns for more beyond what her dome has to offer. Killer Domes and the Chosen One isn’t my usual type of book, but I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised, and I actually thoroughly enjoyed this book.
To begin with, it took a little while to understand what was happening, because you were thrown in to a new, unknown world. Gibbs has created a colorful, if at times confusing, dystopian set in a post-apocalyptic setting. I appreciated that the author does just enough world-building to keep readers from being completely lost in this new world but we don’t get bombarded with insane amounts of detail. Instead, readers are treated to an interesting POV from Maz who thinks she is the hottest thing since sliced bread. The book is a real pageturner. I always wondered what would happen next. The story never disappointed. It's about Maz and her best friend Hap. They live in a dome together with robots and other citizens, where life is structured and organized. Until they meet someone who turns their whole world upside down. I recommend it to all sci-fi lovers and if you want to read a unique story about a dystopian world.

I usually don't read books like Killer Domes and the Chosen One, but I gave it a shot, and I am not sorry. It was fun and exciting, from beginning to end. I loved the characters and the humor throughout the book. I also felt it was very original, which made it that much more intriguing.

-Pacing. This book moves quickly and keeps you turning pages.
-Maz and Hap. They’re adorable, they have a cute friendship, and I was rooting for them both.

An individualistic writing style is achieved through variations from the norm. In other words, it is created through the rules the writer breaks. However, if the writer breaks too many rules, the reader begins to wonder whether this is stylistic intention or a lack of writing experience.

Killer Dimes and the Chosen Ones is a short dystopian mystery with many likable characters, an interesting plot, and a satisfying conclusion. The main character was hard for me to connect with since she’s very brash, sometimes mean, and very self centered. However, secondary characters (like the main’s best friend) gave me people to “root” for. This was a great ya. The characters all felt real and the story flowed very well. It was a very short story but it felt way longer (in a good way!). The world building worked out very well and the editing was done fabulously. I read the other version of this one and then the updated one and I have to say that I think the author did a great job with getting this edited. This one read so much better. If you are looking for a new dystopian story then check this one out!
For those who enjoy light YA fantasy, this is a nice book to pick up. I felt the book concluded very nicely and one of the characters, Mitch, seemed to be one of those volatile characters - I would have liked if there'd been a bit more background on him, since he seemed like quite a fascinating character even though he could border on unlikable at times.
