It was the hottest hookup of her life. When Tess Barrett spent the night in the arms of the too sexy to be real stranger, she knew she was walking on the wild side. Sex with James Smith was the best EVER. How was she supposed to walk away from that? From him? So…she didn’t. They planned secret dates. More body-melting hookups. The white-hot sex should have been enough.
So why does she start wanting more?
But they have rules. She has rules. No emotions. No ties. She has a past that is dark and twisted, and she’s worked hard to become a new person. She’s a doctor now. Respected. Controlled. Except…there is no control when she’s around James.
A bad guy…might be falling for the good girl.
James can’t keep his hands off his sexy little doctor. She’s buttoned down for everyone else but goes absolutely wild for him. Sure, she doesn’t know his history. Doesn’t know that the man she lets touch every inch of her body used to spend his days working for Uncle Sam and doing some seriously dirty deeds. What she doesn’t know can’t hurt her, right? And if she ever did learn the truth about him, he knew it would terrify his sweet doc right to her core. Terror would make her run. He doesn’t want her running. He just wants her in his bed.
But then…something happens. Danger sneaks up on Tess. She needs help—a very particular expertise and protective skill set. She needs someone lethal and strong…and James is just the man for the job. After all, lethal is his middle name.
Hello, dangerous times.
When James steps in, Tess doesn’t know if she should be grateful or scared to death. Because her gorgeous lover? Turns out he has plenty of mad and dangerous skills. She’s been hooking up with a superhero or…maybe a super villain. It’s sort of hard to tell the difference.
For the moment, she’s going to go with feeling grateful…but as she learns all of his secrets, Tess wonders what will happen next between them. Will they crash and burn? Burn, baby, burn. Or maybe, just maybe, they’ll actually have a GHOST OF A CHANCE at getting a happily ever after ending.
Author’s James Smith is one mad, bad, dangerous guy…but sometimes, bad guys fall hard for good girls. GHOST OF A CHANCE is super hot, charged with lots of feels, and, it’s got some pulse-pounding action for you. Dirty words and dirty deeds are dead ahead. Oh, and there’s plenty of fun thrown in, too. Mystery, humor, sexy times, and danger—all of my favorite things in a book.

OMG!! Talk about intensity!!! This book has it in spades!
With the exception of two close friends, Tess is a loner. She works, goes home and works some more. She doesn’t have time for anything more, and that is by her choosing.
But after a particularly awful day, she decides to take one night with James and soon finds herself needing him for more than just one night.
James has a past that has left his hands covered in blood. From the minute he lays eyes on Tess the empty place that was once his soul begins to mend itself. But there are rules in place between them and even as it kills him to adhere to them, he waits and watches for her return even as he knows his past could very well catch up to him one day.
Tess may have been a bit broken, but she was always forthright and down to earth. She always said what was on her mind even when it might not be the socially acceptable thing to say. Her past was rough and yet the worst of it helped her to become a pretty incredible person. I loved that James was drawn to her quirky truthfulness because I was too.
***”You heard me. Stop being ----ing adorable. It’s distracting. And you do it all the time. I’m starting to think you do it deliberately just to throw me off my game.”
***’The woman then had the nerve to march back for the door, all determined like, as if she was about to leave him. Like she was going to appear, decimate his world, and then vanish once more.
Pure Tess. Unpredictable. Maddening. Determined. Was it any wonder he was hooked on her?’
With an even darker past, one forged by death and survival, James was pretty intense. Probably one of the most intense heroes I’ve read outside of a “dark romance”. It was that very intensity that initially made me keep turning the pages. He’s definitely my type of hero with his driving need to protect Tess.
’”Want to destroy anyone who hurts you.” He knew his words were wrong. Too savage and dark, but she didn’t get it - that was who he was. He was savage and dark, and he wasn’t a safe lover, not by any means.
Yet she was safe, with him. He would always keep her safe.’
This plot is built with layer upon layer of mystery, suspense and danger. I never suspected how it might end until it began to unfold piece by piece. I was glued to this from the very beginning, first because of the characters and then because of the intensity of the story as the end drew near. With some humor added via a few of the Wilde agents, this was a perfectly rounded out book that will definitely be reread in the future.
What a great pairing. Tess is an ER doctor who has a traumatic past that has shaped her future. She's one of my favorite kind of heroines because she was completely upfront and honest with James. That seems to be a rare find, so I love it even more when an author gives us this kind of heroine. She is a bit socially awkward but I think that added to her appeal.
If you have read this author before, then you know James is the kind of hero that took one look at Tess and his focus shifted. He saw the connection and went after it. Another trait I just love to see in a main character. He also has that appeal of a darker hero who would do anything for there heroine. And he proves that.
The suspense was good and leaves you guessing on who could be the real person behind things. I won't give any hints but lets just say, well done with how that came together. I like that it ended up being more.
With the exception of two close friends, dedicated doctor Tess Barrett is a loner, one who hates sharing her past and sill finds herself hunted by memories. She works, goes home and works some more, but during a night out with her two friends she and James meet and she finds herself thinking about something other than work. James past is shrouded in blood, death and darkness, he knows he should keep away, but from the get go Tess sinks deep into his skin, and he finds himself unable to keep away, he'll do anything to ensure she is safe and happy - any hint of danger and he's there to stamp it out.
This was so close to being a delicious read for me, but whilst I enjoyed it, something was missing. For example there was a edge to Ghost that I was expecting due to the depiction of him in a previous book, an edge that didn't emerge here.
Another massively enjoyable addition to the Wilde Ways series. James ‘Ghost’ Smith and Tess Barrett’s story kept me reading, with the authors usual twists and turns, action, sexy-times and great secondary characters.
She saved lives… He took them.
The doctor and the assassin, not a match you would generally pair up, but the heart wants what it wants, and as their eyes meet across the crowded nightclub, nothing will ever be the same again for either of them. Both have secrets, both have shady pasts, neither one is sure whose it is that has decided to crawl out of the woodwork and cause trouble for them.
"You stand in the dark long enough… You start to like it."
I guessed who the villain was in this one pretty early on, hence the loss of star, but I loved this couple together, nicely alpha for James and although inexperienced and a little retiring, Tess soon grew a pair and started to stand up for herself.
"I don’t care about your past… I want your future."
Loved Blair and Linc, the Wilde operatives, and am sooooo glad that Cynthia is finally giving them their own book next Crossing the Line the chemistry has been bubbling between this pair for a couple of books now and I am dying to see what sort of story the author gives them.
"I and ready to kill for you. Fight for you… Die for you. Trust me… I’m yours."
Another winner, I love this authors RS titles as much as her PNR stuff, and cannot wait to see what she has in store for her readers in 2020!

5 - There Aren't Enough Words In The World To Describe How Much I Love James - Stars
From the moment we met Ghost in the previous book I was intrigued by him. By the time we got to the end of the book I was dying to know if Cynthia was going to write a book about him. I think I screamed out loud when I realized she already had. January seemed like forever back then.
Well, it was absolutely worth the wait. This is probably one of my favorite Cynthia Eden books and it all has to do with James. He is everything I love in a hero. He is handsome, sexy, dark, rugged, tough, and protective. Boy whoo, is he protective. I love that in my hero and Cynthia does such a great job creating heroes in this role.
💖 His mask vanished. He ripped out his phone. Dialed Barnes. “I want to know what the fuck happened to Tess today,” he snapped, not bothering with a greeting. “Find out what hurt her—who hurt her.”
“Uh…boss?”
“Because no one hurts her. Understand me? No one.”
💖 “You’ll want to remove the hand.” The masculine voice was low and lethal, and it sent a shiver over Tess’s skin.
💖 “Tess is mine. I’m hers. You come between us again, and you’ll wish you hadn’t.”
SWOON! This guy!!!
James and Tess meet when she goes out with a couple of friends' to a bar. James notices her from the get go and the first interaction between her friends and seeing James is quite entertaining. James and Tess just plan to have no strings attached but things don't stay that way. James becomes so obsessed with Tess and wants to always be with her.
Seriously, I loved so much in this book. The suspense was top-notch and the romance, well, it was swoon-worthy. Who knew the Ghost could be so in love.
You don't really have to read the rest of the books in this series to enjoy this one, but I've liked them all (this one being my favorite). Definitely give this book a chance if you love a protective, possessive loving hero. It can't be missed.
💖 He was possessive. She was his. He was hers. No one would take him from her. She’d chosen him, said she loved him, and he would give his life for her in an instant.
Random Thoughts:
✭ Find you a man who will kiss away your tears, a former assassin, who will kiss away your tears. Gah.
✮ First kiss scene he picks her up and she wraps her legs around his waist? These two are so sexy smokin hot together!
✮ He finds everything she does "fucking adorable." Seriously, he tells her to stop being so adorable. I love him so much!
✮ He wants to give her everything in this world because she is his everything. How can you not love a hero like that?
✮ Why are you still reading this review? Why haven't you picked up this book?
✮ Will this help convince you: “Sweetheart, you are my one. My only. I will love you for the rest of my life.”
In this latest installment of Cynthia Eden’s Wilde Ways series, we see a familiar character. I know these are all listed as books that are standalones, and they are, for the most part. However, with this book, if you don’t know Ghost’s history with the team, I think you’re missing out. You won’t be confused or anything, don’t worry!
When Tess Barrett is out for a girls night with her friends, she can’t stop looking at a super hot guy who coincidentally can’t stop looking at her. They hit it off, but Tess backs out and leaves.
James Smith owns the club, and he owns a lot of secrets. Things he can never tell Tess. And he wouldn’t want to share even if he could. It was dark and she doesn’t need that in her life. He wants to give her nothing but pleasure.
Tess comes to him for a no-strings attached situation, but what if he wants all the strings? He’s just going to have to make her want him more than she fears commitment. And he’s doing an excellent job of it until Tess starts getting creepy phone calls. She thinks her past is going to catch up with her, and she might not be wrong. Luckily James is there to help. He’s got favors owed to him all over the place, and he’s got an in with Wilde Security.
James wants to keep Tess safe, but she’s an ER doctor, so it’s not like she can just hunker down and hide out. But when even her hospital doesn’t seem safe, she’s going to need James now more than ever.
I loved seeing James learn to love. He is absolutely someone who would steamroll over Tess except she doesn’t allow it. I think at one point he was saying something like, “Just tell me what to do and I’ll do it!” Tess shows him that she doesn’t need him taking care of everything. She just needs him. And James is learning how to be James, and not Ghost. (I purposely have not spoiled what his previous line of work is, but you can probably guess).
James was your typical bored by life, take what I want and don’t look back, type of hero…at first. Once he realized he wanted Tess’ happiness and safety more than anything, he changed. Oh he’s always going to be a growly alpha type man, that’s just who he is, but he finds he wants to be more for her.
This book fits in perfectly, but I hope we see more of James/Ghost in the next book.

There is just something about Cynthia Eden's writing that keeps me coming back. I just love her books and don't think that from all the ones I've read that I have one I didn't like.
She writes about wonderful alpha men who will do anything they can to protect the people they care about. It doesn't hurt that they are HOT too! And did I mention smart? It's a real turn on for me. Love a smart man.
Now Ghost hasn't been in the series for long but he's made a huge impact on the amount he's been in. There is just something about him. He's very mysteries and seems untouchable. You just want to know more about him.
I will admit I was so excited about this book but then when I got it I was like...should I read it now? What can I say, I was a little worried that he wouldn't hold up to the hype. A very important worry. Okay, we have a ton more in real life to worry about but sometimes you just want to worry about something small and stupid.
This was one of those times for me.
I'm happy to say that he not only held up to all the hype about him, but he also surpassed it. James rocks! What can I say? He just has something special about him. I was not disappointed at all. In fact, his story made me like him even more.
I also liked Tess. She's a sweet person who has been through so much and doesn't want her past crap to touch anyone else. She's perfect for James. Neither and perfect and they understand each other.
I really enjoyed this story and the mystery of who was going after who. It played out well and kept you wondering till the end. Every time you thought you got it...nope. Like I said, a good story.
What thrilled me the most was the interaction between Ghost and the Wilde agents. It cracked me up. They all acted like a bunch of teenage boys. The oneliners keep you laughing and just how rude they are to each other reminds you a little bit like family. It's kind of funny, they didn't want anything to really do with James and picked on him (he picked back) but when he needed them...they are there for him. Like I said...family!
I'm so glad I got a chance to read Ghost of a Chance. It is pretty great! The whole series has been great. You really should try it if you haven't yet already. Can't wait for more to come!
Well here we have the assassin and the doctor so not exactly a combination made in heaven because one takes lives and one saves them ! Ghost aka James who previously made such an impact in this series is trying to do things legitimately but with his past do things ever stay dead and buried ? Tess has her own secrets but maybe it's time she just dipped her toe on the wild side ? A no strings few nights with sexy James might just be the healing medicine she needs but even good girl Tess has a past and for this couple it's about to get very messy indeed ! I did like this couple and their romance is instant and smoking hot . I particularly enjoyed that Wilde securities played a huge role here and it added greatly to the overall plot and indeed leaves the door open for the next book in this series. Sadly I just wasn't convinced by James as he seemed so possessive that at times he felt perhaps too alpha. I love that in the authors paranormal stories as it works extremely well in that context but here for me it just didn't quite convince me. However the resolution to the danger that's haunting the couple was unexpected and perhaps just a little shocking. As usual this was a fun, fast paced read and it definitely has a happy ending which always makes me smile. This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
“I don't want to give you up.” The words tore from her. “I accepted your deal. playtime is over.”
James, that guy... I am so happy he's got his story, because as of the previous books, I knew he had a story to tell.. & boy did he..😍
James was unexpected in so many ways, his sense of humor especially😁.. being an ex-assassin he's seen a lot of darkness but it's all behind, but... past Always catches up, doesn't it?
From the moment he saw Tess, he fell for her, hard.
Tess, the good ol' doc had her share of past & darkness. I liked how straightforward she is & strong.. gosh, this seriously feels like a match made in heaven😉
But Danger is closing. Tess was attacked, her home was trashed, She was terrified. In this time, who she felt safe with? Who she went to? Yup, James.
In came Wilde agents while the danger kept coming. Sometimes, Danger is closer than expected & you don't know until it had striked.
“My past almost killed you.” he said. “Actually, I think it was my past, too.”
P.s. I really liked this book, I was smiling & cheering multiple times for them. James is a hotshot I'm happy that Tess keeps him in check😉
Don’t let him fool you, James is a good guy. The past gets in the way for James and Tess, but true to our likes, they get their HEA. Lots of action, suspense and twists and turns. Great read and so excited for the next book!

REVIEW: GHOST OF A CHANCE is the seventh instalment in Cynthia Eden’s contemporary, adult WILDE WAYS erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women of Wilde Ways security. This is former government assassin James ‘Ghost’ Smith, and ER physician Tess Barrett’s story line. GHOST OF A CHANCE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.
Told from several third person perspectives including James and Tess GHOST OF A CHANCE follows the building relationship between former US government assassin James ‘Ghost’ Smith, and ER physician Tess Barrett. A night out with friends finds Tess Barrett in the arms of a stranger, a stranger of who she cannot get out of her mind but a home invasion leaves Tess angry and scared, pushing our heroine towards the man with whom she would fall in love. Enter former US assassin James ‘Ghost’ Smith. What ensues is the building but reluctant relationship between Tess and James, and the potential fall-out as one or both are targeted by demons of the past.
Tess Barrett keeps secrets her tormented past. Homeless and alone, our heroine finds herself facing a nightmare only to discover that the nightmare continues for the rest of her life. James Smith knows that the truth about his past will destroy any hopes of a relationship with Dr. Tess Barrett, but it is his past that is trying to destroy them all.
The relationship between Tess and James begins as an almost one-night stand. James is desperate to uncover the truth about Dr. Tess Barrett but in doing so discovers that all is not well in her well-ordered life. Keeping Tess safe and protected will pull the Wilde Ways Security Team into his life but James battles between head and heart when it comes to protecting the woman he loves. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are reintroduced to several of the Wilde Ways Security team members: Wesley Cade, Linc Dalton and Blair Kincaid, as well as doctors Devin Goddard, Latonya Wilson, and nurse Marilyn Montgomery; James’ assistant Barnes. The requisite evil has many faces. Linc and Blair’s story is next in Crossing the Line.
GHOST OF A CHANCE is a story of betrayal, vengeance, acceptance and love. The premise is intriguing and engaging; the characters are colorful and energetic; the romance is passionate and seductive. GHOST OF A CHANCE is another wonderful addition to Cynthia Eden’s WILDE WAYS romantic suspense series.
Another romantic suspense with toe curling romance
Cynthia Eden comes back with another action packed romance this year with Ghost of a Chance though I'll call this more of a romance than action.
Dr. Barrett is secretive and a workaholic. A night out with her friends crosses her path with the infamous club owner James Smith. Though attracted to him at a very primitive level, she backs up at the last moment. But when she has a bad day at the hospital, she finds herself at his club again.
James is attracted to the doctor like he was never attracted to any other women. He looks at her and he wants her. But his hands aren't clean like he wish to be. Getting close to Tess might not be good idea. So, he gives her a choice to leave and run as far as possible from him. Only every chance meeting brings them closer.
But as the lovers grow closer, both their past comes to haunt them, threatening their future together. The rest of the story revolves around the couple and the unknown enemy.
If you exclude the few trademark scenes like car running over, stalking, trashing room, hero hauling heroine to his home which we see in every book of this series, this is an enjoyable read. While I am a great fan of Cynthia's stories, I wanted something different that didn't remind me of her other books.
But the plus side of her stories is the villain, who is always a surprise to us, readers until the ending. In this story also, you will end up playing the guessing game till the last. Other characters I liked is Linc and Blair. A lot is going on there. We see them in the last book, One Hot Holiday.
I'm glad to hear that their book is next. I loved their interactions. Cole as usual is trying to fit in the scene, but stands out with his bad boy persona and gets hurt as usual. I wish there were more scenes with James as a ghost. It would have made my day. Overall a good read with toe curling romance.
I received an advanced review copy of this book from the author and leaving a review voluntarily.
Loved the twist you didn’t see coming. Could have toned down the angst a bit. Finally, drop the last sex scene, did nothing for the story. Really, what is it with these authors thinking sex scenes enhance a storyline?
This one just wasn't for me. In theory, I could have liked the setup, but the execution was too much instalove and too many different elements of their past intersecting in the main plot drama.
Ghost of a Chance bk 6.. A sizzling romantic suspense with Mystery [ 18+ ]
This book follows Ghost which is his nickname and how he finds a happy ending.. The Wilde ways series is awesome and i have to say that i Really enjoyed James story..
when i seen that book 6 was about James i started looking forward to reading about Ghost story because his character sounds like it would be fun to read about.. You first meet Ghost in book 5 then again in book 5.5.. This book was really good and the writer did amazing job writing his story..
James is strong, smart, can fight, club owner, does not trust anyone because he has been hurt a lot, Ghost is a nickname, has a dark past and helps out Eric when they need him, does not have friends until he met Eric and everyone else at Wilde personal protection business Security company..
Tess is strong, ER Doctor, Likes to look after people and try to help them the best way she can, has a dark past, she does not let anyone close because she has been hurt in the past, did not have much growing up, she makes friends easy but at the same time she does not let them close and she pushes people away a lot..
This book is packed full of: ⦁ Awesome characters ⦁ Club owner/ER Doctor ⦁ Hero Has Scars ⦁ No 3rd act break up ⦁ Ex Hitman turned Club owner ⦁ Content: Kidnapping, Talking about Drugs, Bad guys use drugs in the kidnapping, Caretaking, Harassment, Heroine talks about the death of her mum and more ⦁ Hot & Steamy with Open-door play [Near the kitchen] ⦁ A wee bit of Outdoor play [in a car Limo] ⦁ Some Play time in the hero's bar ⦁ Hero saves the Heroine ⦁ Forced Proximity ⦁ A wee bit of a Grumpy/Sunshine Trope ⦁ Strong friendships ⦁ Darker than the other books so far ⦁ Possessive Heros/Touch her and you die Trope ⦁ Fast read ⦁ Protective Hero ⦁ Action packed ⦁ Mystery ⦁ New Characters Joining in through the book
In this book you get to lean more about James and what he has went through in his life.. I really like that he has helped Eric out when they need him.. It was so much fun leaning more about James and also it was interesting to see how dark his past is but that he still keeps going and try's to get his life back together.. In this book you start to really care about James as a character and also makes you feel sorry for him because he had no one in his life and now can't trust anyone but i thought it was nice to see that James started to trust Tess and then also found new friends in Eric and the Security team that Eric sent to help James out..
Fav characters are: ⦁ James [aka Ghost] ⦁ Tess [ER Doctor] ⦁ Latonya [Nurse, Best friend with Tess] ⦁ Cole [Works for Eric] ⦁ Linc [Works for Eric] ⦁ Blair [Works for Eric] ⦁ Eric [owns Wilde personal protection business Security company ] ⦁ Wesley Cade [Detective] ⦁ Barnes [Works for James] ⦁ Ryley [Limo Driver, Works for James]
I liked the relationship between James and Tess.. They are so cute together and it was awesome to read about how the relationship gets stronger throughout the book.. I am glad they got a happy ending..
Ghost Of A Chance by Cynthia Eden is book 7 in the Wilde Ways Series. This is the story of James Smith and Tess Barrett. I have read the previous books (Loved Them!) which added to my enjoyment of this one but I do feel you could make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. James has a dark past but now is working as a Club Owner and this is where he sees Tess. Tess is a ER DR who has a bad past that makes her to keep people at arm lengths. So when James and her have their hot night but its not enough. So Tess agrees to more but on her terms which is keeping things at a distant. Of course James wants her so he agrees but he plans on changing the rules to get what he wants. This was a hot alpha read with the drama story that keeps us turning pages.
Thank you to Netgalley for a advanced copy for an honest review. Ghost is back! I love Cynthia Edens books and I remember Ghost from previous Wilde Ways books and I am so glad he got his story. Tess and overworked ER doctor goes to a club and is instantly attracted to James, the club owner. James has a colorful past working for the government as an assassin. Soon bad things start happening to Tess, is it someone getting to Ghost thru Tess or has Tess past come back to her. I loved these characters and how the author draws you in to root for them. Bravo, can't wait for Linc and Blairs story next!
When Tess was Thirteen and homeless Tess had a dangerous predator that did unthinkable things to her, it shaped her future today as a Doctor. She held her emotions and her heart very close and only a few friends she could trust. Latonya and Marilyn worked at the same hospital and are like sisters to her. They went to a club to decompress and Tess saw the most handsome man at the bar. James didn’t let any woman get attached to him, he was bad news in his own eyes. The Military had him assigned to the most dangerous missions. The storyline was very addicting as were the characters. I was stumped and highly surprised with the mystery villain. I loved the explosive chemistry of James and Tess they complemented each other perfectly. They are a beautiful pairing and healed each other’s souls. I also loved Conner, Linc, and Blair and definitely grabbing their stories. I highly recommend this book.
I really liked James. And I liked Tess too although i felt it was a false equivalence to be like "we're the same." Also ... I guess ... I dunno it's ... ugh. So obviously I don't know about this super spy shit (I think that's the whole point, yeah? None of us do unless one actually is a super spy assassin...) BUT. Like ... there's a major fucking difference between being a contract killer, and an assassin for the government/covert op agent.
... Also ... like supposedly anyway the gov't has you target terrible people, not just like ... some dude they're jealous of.
Also also ... I mean I know my ~worldview isn't exactly ... that of your average bear, but .... what happened to Tess was OF COURSE terrible, and I know the trauma would last her whole life.
But it's like ...
I think ... Barnes is it? He obviously has a LOT of growing to do but ... I have questions. [IS HE REALLY TRUSTWORTHY?]
For the ~baddie ... >.> I think I'm too suspicious cuz WAAAYYYYY before any of them knew what was up I was like "DON'T TRUST OR BELIEVE THAT PERSON" but like :X yeah.
I was also way more suspicious of the doctor. I'm glad Tess still has Latonya though.
I really like smitten heroes so the Wilde books are my jam - and of course I'm reading Dex's book now [cuz I read Antony's right before this one.]
I'm ... :X actually waffling on reading Linc and Blair's book. Maybe I'll LOVE it? But partners books I'm kinda :| about cuz you KNOW it's shit/they shouldn't be doing that. [Which is a thing addressed in book 12. >.> Maybe because Linc and Blair? Also because common sense and reality?]
Anyway.
I actually liked this book more than I'm making it sound, I think - i did like it but I'm just fixated on these issues now.
I do/did really like James and Tess's honesty. [Although :X Maybe ... she was somewhat on the spectrum? And /or though her weird childhood/lack of nurture?]

A romance that devours far too quickly
I didn't expect to like this book as much, but the couple former assassin for the government who think he's a monster that cannot be loved / the endearing socially awkward doctor who start out with nothing was a big crush ! I loved watching them fall in love, watching them learn to trust each other ... And of course, the plot with the different threats around the two heroes was great !
And I have to admit, I'm super curious to see how it will be between Linc and Blair ! And Cole !
In short, a romance full of twists and sexy to read !
Wow is all I can say Ms. Eden's book never disappoint. The Wilde Ways series started strong with Protecting piper which I read and thoroughly enjoyed. I never imagine that #6 in the series would surpass the excitement and danger in book one but to me it sure did. Tess is an ER doctor who lives life in a safe way, one night while her friends take her to a bar to hang out she's drawn to a man at the bar who she cannot stop staring at and guess what he keeps staring at her too until he introduces himself as James. We find out James owns the club and takes her away into a private room to dance with her instantly there is a serious attraction that scares Tess and she runs fast away from him. As we know with these heated immediate attractions she ends up meeting up with him again and starts a torrid affair both individuals believing its just sex when its apparently not so. With Cynthia books we always know there is a killer or killers loose and this book is no different. Both the hero and heroine are not sure if the killer is after her or him since both of them have very dark past. Loved the build up chemistry with James and Tess love how the author explains so realistically why Tess is the way she is and why James turned out the way he did thoroughly enjoy this book. Great series.
4.5 Stars. You know in the Wilde Ways Series this talented author will take you on a wild ride. This book has twist and turns to entertain the readers. The romance and the action is balanced, though there are more sex scenes than the previous books. (Maybe too many.) It’s not often a character like James, an assassin, (from Book 5) can be transformed into the hero. James still has his edge, trusts no-one, operates solo, and has no issue pulling the trigger, if necessary. Tess takes a chance on this sexy, bad boy she meets in a Club. For a straight-lace, over-worked doctor, it only takes a few sexy glances from James to have this Doc embracing her wild side. James finds himself in unknown territory when he finds himself wanting more than a no strings relationship with Tess. He is more shocked when he realizes he can put his trust in her and finally fall in love. Their romance is threatened when Tess’ life is put into jeopardy. James springs into action and the Wilde Protection and Securities team provides backup for the Ghost.
This book is everything I never knew I needed. Apparently, I adore romances about ex-CIA assassins who become utterly obsessed with good girl doctors. I was so excited for this book when I saw it was coming out, but I’ve only just gotten around to reading it because life has been busy.
Ghost of a Chance made me so happy! Not because it’s particularly feel-good, but I just loved everything about it. James is such a great antihero type, especially if you like intense heroes who are super alpha but also respect women’s ability to make choices for themselves.
Tess is great. She’s a literal genius, and an E.R. doctor at only 24. Life has been tough for her, but she’s made the most of it. She has a few close friends, but is a bit socially awkward and very honest, which I find endearing and can also relate to a little. She was sweet, but by no means a doormat.
I also enjoyed seeing Linc and Blair, and I’m looking forward to their book when it finally comes out!
A 24 year old ER doctor. One who has been an ER doctor for, what appears to be, a few years now. Ridiculous. Why does the heroine need to be the exact same age as the heroine in the previous book, as well as unrealistically young for the job she has? I just don't understand it and it was something that genuinely bothered me throughout the whole book. Tess wasn't all that likable, seemed really immature considering an attempt was made to make her sound like someone 10 years older than her. There were too many "bad guys" and cliches happening in the book, James came off way more "meh" than I was expecting and there was an insane amount of drama. Honesty, sometimes I felt like the author had two plots and couldn't decide between the two so she just mashed them together and this is what we got.
The writing was good, and I like Ms. Eden's books, but this one fell flat just like the previous one. It had a lot of potential but so many little things just pulled it down.
I can’t get enough of Cynthia Eden’s suspense books!!
She saves lives. He took them. He’s an assassin turned club owner with a plan to prove he can be an asset in the protection business. But who would ever trust a retired assassin? Especially the stunning woman he’d just met in his club. Yet, she seems unfazed at his honesty.
Doctor Tess Barrett isn’t into the club scene but she agreed to go with her friends. She never expected to lock eyes with an incredibly handsome and sexy man across the room. When he asks her to dance Tess finds herself unable to help the draw she feels to the man, and when trouble stalks her he is the first one she runs to.
When danger seems to be coming from every direction the protector in James will have him calling in friends to help keep the woman he’s falling for safe. But, what will Tess and James do when they can’t tell who the bad guys are actually after?
Ghost Of A Chance was an intense, page turner of a story that I could not put down. This is a thrilling non stop action story with excellent and likeable characters and a really intriguing storyline! Thanks to combustible chemistry, wonderful characters, and a storyline that was not only full of suspense, and drama, but secrets and lies, and it genuinely kept me guessing until the very end. Another massively enjoyable addition to the Wilde Ways series. I absolutely loving this series and can’t get enough of them. Bring on more please as I definitely need them in my hands. I only have one regret when I’ve finish a book by Cynthia Eden is that I don’t have anything new to read by this author, so I have to go back to the beginning and re-enjoy them all over again. Definitely grab your copies of this series!! Happy reading!!
