To Tame a Rogue
A spy with a guilty conscience. A war widow who works for the government. Both united to bring down a ring of traitors...
To prevent her father from marrying her off to an elderly suitor, Lady Gemma Barton begs her childhood friend to marry her, devising a way for them to be found in a compromising position. Gemma weds Rob, who then departs to serve on Wellesley’s staff in the war against Bonaparte. Gemma’s new father-in-law soon has her working for the British government, deciphering enemy codes.
Burke Nicholson serves in the Peninsular War as a soldier and spy, using his charisma and charm to gather intelligence. After he’s rescued from being captured and tortured, Burke lives with survivor’s guilt, believing he did something to compromise his latest mission which got his partner killed. He returns to London to continue his spy work, where he is partnered with Gemma and tasked to find a group of traitors within the War Office. The trouble is that Gemma is the widow of Burke’s former partner. Not only did he get her husband killed, but Burke fears their dangerous assignment might also end Gemma’s life.
The pair fight their growing attraction to one another as they draw closer to finding the rebels trying to topple the British government.
Will Gemma ever be able to forgive Burke for his role in her husband’s death, and will Burke ever be able to forgive himself?

Whilst perhaps not being your typical Regency-style romance, readers of the genre will easily fall in love with this page-turner story.

The H is badly scarred, believes he's the cause of the h's husband being tortured and killed. She's brilliant, works behind the scenes for War Office. They meet and are attracted but they are trying to catch a spy so their romance is secondary. I liked this book, the H and h were great and the story about her marriage was good too.

This was another excellent read in this series. It was every different from the first but equally enthralling. This was full of tension and danger that will keep you hooked until the end. Gemma was an intelligent lady and Burke, although a rogue, needed to come to terms with his guilt and his physical and mental injuries. I enjoyed how they got to know each other and how their feeling for each other deepened. I liked that Charlotte and Gray, from the first book featured, although this can be read as a standalone. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series.

To Tame a Rogue by Alexa Aston was a heart-racing book centering around the war with France in the early 1800's. Gemma called for her good, friend, Rob, Smythe, second son to the Earl of Covington, to come and bail her out of a situation, that situation being her impending marriage to Lord Willows, a man at least three times her age. The only way she could see her way out was Rob; he would marry her and save her from her doom. Rob readily agreed to this marriage of convenience and she was indeed saved. Two days after the wedding he was off to France and she went to live in the home of the Earl of Covington, where they quickly became fast friends. After observing Gemma, the earl came to recognize how bright she was and how mathematical her mind was and so he set her to decoding messages intercepted by the War Office, his employer. At the same time Rob, in France, is given an interesting assignment working with a much more experienced spy, Burke Nicholson, a charismatic and intelligent man who had an education, but nothing else as he was a younger son. For a while they were successful but eventually they got captured and Burke blamed himself. He didn't know what mistake he had made, but he knew he had made one. They were tortured for days but neither of them gave up any information. Eventually Rob died from the torture just before they were rescued. Burke walked away a broken man with one less eye. Rob had given him a message for Gemma with his last breath and Burke was determined to deliver it.
This was a terrific spy novel as well as a love story. Burke came home to England and broken man and it was only after months living by himself in a remote hunting lodge that he felt recovered. His old life was gone, as was his old, rakish personality. He felt the need to see how he could help, now that he was recovered. Gemma, was still secretly working for the War Office, but without her father-in-law's guidance as he had died shortly after he had received word of Rob's death. Gemma was the dowager countess since, shortly before the death of her father-in-law, her brother-in-law had drunkenly walked in front of a moving carriage. She was fortunate that she had not money worries and had a home of her own, since the earldom had passed to a cousin upon Rob's death. She was a strong and intelligent character, and was no one's fool. She made the perfect partner for Burke Nicholson in attempting to discover who was leaking information from the War Office to the French. This was a terrific book, I seriously enjoyed in, including the appearance of old friends of Burke: Grey and Charlotte Crampton from the previous book, To Heal and Earl. I recommend this book as a lovely, but not mindless, romance.
I received a free ARC of To Tame a Rogue from Dragonblade in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own.

A story that touched me to the core and tore at my heart. At times I had to close my eyes and take a deep breath as this author's descriptive words evoked the scenes in my mind. Yes, war has it's horror's and our hero, and yes, he is a hero, Burke Nicholson, endured more than a single person should or could. He had been a spy for the crown and he was now going home.
His first duty was to go see the wife of his friend and fellow spy who had died because of him, Lady Covington, or Gemma, as Rob had called her. What Gemma saw as she met him was a haunted man.
I want to just tell you the entire story because it touched me so much.. I have to say that I adore this author and her writing. As soon as a new book comes out by her I have to read it and know it will always be something I will enjoy and not want to put down.
Secrets, spies, intrigue, torture, murder, and of course two hearts who were meant to be together if only they could endure the journey there... One of the best stories I have read this year and know it will stay in my thoughts for awhile. Cannot wait for the next and hope it is Reid.

Definite ladies man here...
Lady Gemma Barton was about to be married off to an old geyser of a Lord until she begged her best friend from childhood Rob to marry her to save her that fate. Unfortunately, she and Rob didn't have the future she'd envisioned and Gemma was left a widow.
But, a bright young woman, Gemma began to work for Britain's War Office in the fight against Napoleon. It's during this task she meets Burke Nicholson, a former compatriot of her deceased husband, and now a cohort of hers in her employment.
Burke has long been a reputed ladies man, and used it to his best advantage. He has done this both personally and professionally. Now he's "doing it" for God and country.
He and Gemma are given an assignment that will give them a chance to know each other better but also put them in danger. Thus begins a web of intrigue jeopardy, flirtation and romance.
This is a terrific story, read start to finish as it's so difficult to put down. It's the second in a series and I am really looking forward to the next. I highly recommend it.

Facing a marriage to a gentleman in his seventies Lady Gemma Barton is desperate and she begs her childhood friend Robert Covington to marry her. Burke Nicholson serves a soldier and spy, using his charisma and charm to gather intelligence. He feels guilty and responsible for his partner Rob was death. He’s sent home to heal and recuperate. Eventually he returns to London to continue his spy work. Much to his surprise he’s partnered with Gemma and tasked to find a group of traitors within the War Office. I love how the relationship builds out of mutual respect and attraction, Burke realizes Gemma’s life is in danger as they get closer to finding the traitor in the War Office. Can their feeling overcome can Burke ever forgive himself and can Gemma for give him for her husband’s death? A great story of loyalty, love and betrayal. An excellent story I loved and I voluntarily wrote a review.

Gemmas father is going to force her to marry a man twice her age. When she comes up with a plan to marry her childhood friend. After the marriage Rob goes off to war and Gemma helps his father who works for the war office.
Burke Nicholson is an intelligence officer and when something goes very wrong his partner gets killed and Burke blames himself. Severely injured Burke goes home and plans to meet with his partners widow and try to tell her that her husbands last thoughts were of her. When Burke goes to work for the war office he is pared with Gemma to take on a mission. Both Gemma and Burke are fighting an attraction they feel for each other. Burke is full of guilt for getting Rob killed and Gemma is feeling guilty for being attracted to a man who possibly got her husband killed.
Guilt can be a tremendous thing and Burke and Gemma will need to overcome it in order to find love. This is such a wonderful story. The second in this series although a stand alone book. I loved the first book and definitely loved this one! Definitely recommend reading this series! Can’t wait for the next one.

Lady Gemma Barton has just discovered that her father is going to wed her off to an ancient peer; just to be rid of her. After her discovery, Gemma talks her best friend, Rob, into marrying her. Rob then ships off to fight Bonaparte in the Peninsular War. Burke Nicholson serves the war effort as a spy. He enjoys the lifestyle and soon becomes friends with Rob. The two of them are sent on a mission where they are caught and tortured. Rescue comes late for Rob and Burke carries the weight of his death with him consistently. Gemma had moved in with Rob’s father and starts working with him in the war department. He treats her with kindness, and he becomes the Father of her Heart. Alexa Aston has provided a wonderful mystery, plenty of spies and an unexpected villain. I enjoyed this book very much and kept turning the pages until the end.

Healing and Love
Enjoyed this book! The suffering of Burke and Gemma was compelling. When Burke was tortured by the French it was heart breaking and sad. I'm glad he wasn't responsible for Rob's capture and death. Gemma loss her father-in-law and best friend Rob which was also sad. In spite of the circumstances these two were truly soulmates. Liked that Grmma was a remarkable woman for her culture. Looking forward to book three and more great writing.

Lady Gemma Barton needs to persuade her best friend to marry her before her father marries her off to an old man. The problem is her friend doesn't love her that way and is about to leave for rhe war.
Mr Burke Nicholson works as a spy for the British . He and his partner are in very perilous conditions.
This is a very exciting story, full of danger and intrigue. Working as a spy is always dangerous, but could it be even more so in London than on the continent?? Our brave and very clever heroine is nothing like the Lady most of the "ton" believe her to be. Our roguish hero has given a lot for his country's war effort. Has he got the strength to give more??
Although this is part of a series you can easily read it on it's own. You will meet some characters from the previous book but not enough to spoil it if you haven't read it yet.
I loved every page.

A Wild Surrender
Burke had been captured, tortured and now working undercover as a spy for the crown. He was handsome and always been able to use his charm until he met the war widow Gemma. They had been united to bring down dangerous traitors and found each other. Gemma became Burke’s light and had taught him to feel and love again. They were sharing a dream come true.

Love Rogues
This is another book written by Alexa Aston that I enjoyed reading.
The people that are in the book are Gemma Barton, Rob Smythe, Burke Nicholson, Sir William Barton and several others.
This story is filled with love, handicaps, and treason to name a few.
I would recommend this book to read and find out how it ends.

Wonderful
Really enjoyed this story. It’s not your standard HEA, the plot is complex with twist and turns, but not dark. The characters are warm and engaging and you are able to see their strengths and weaknesses. 2nd book in a series and I can’t wait for the next one

Flirt or faithful
Burke has a specialty for a spy to sleep with women gain their secrets use it for the crown then onto the next assignment (woman)! After nearly dying and he believes getting Gemma husband killed he is so brutalized and tortured he doesn't really have the heart for seduction! Burke meets Gemma and all bets are off! Burke has agreed to one more assignment there is a traitor in the home office! Burke has agreed to do whatever it takes wining, dining seduction of wives however he can get the information which leaves Gemma heartbroken and Burke fears for her safety if the truth is exposed! I didn't like how the book skimmed over the 5th traitor how Gemma was sure Burke should know him and felt betrayed? How he was not as exposed to the world of the Ton as she was? Secrets come out and will Burke save Gemmas life when he couldn't save her husband?

Vividly descriptive and heartmeltingly touching!!
Wonderfully intriguing espionage tale with enough cloak and dagger to keep you engaged and guessing.
The romance develops strongly and smoothly while the characters grab you and refuse to let go.
To Tame a Rogue is guaranteed to have you crying after the first few chapters and deeply immersed in the tale as it unravels. A feeling which only magnifies as Burke and Gemma's relationship hots up, their feelings intensify, passion and yearning spark revelations and circumstances add a delicious air of imminent danger to heighten the stakes, add excitment and make you wish you could read just that little bit faster.
Really loving this series so far; I can't wait to find out where the next book will lead.

A new author for me!
I have already read book 1, like that one this book moves at a fast pace. Because I am a history buff, I really like the fact that no mistakes were made in both books I have read so far! I don't even finish a book if someone who writes about any time period and does not bother to do their research. For me it ruins any book I am reading. I am 71, and at my age I know a lot of history!

Gemma convinces her childhood friend to marry her to save her from a marriage to a man old enough to be her grandfather. Rob then goes off to war and is eventually killed. In the meantime Gemma has been working with his father for the Crown.
Burke was partnered with Rob and believed he got him killed. Gemma's boss sets her and Burke up as partners in their search for traitors. A very good read that keeps you guessing.
