Beguiled by Darynda Jones was amazing! I love every one of the characters in this series. Defiance is one tough witch now that she is becoming a charmling and Annette was over the top funny and her growth through this book made me cheer for her. Character surprises, twists and one dramatic ending kept me glued to the pages.

An HJ Top Pick!!

So crazy good that it had me alternately biting my nails and laughing my head off, Darynda Jones never fails to entertain. But I have to say that Beguiled was my favorite in Defiance’s trilogy, as part of the Betwixt & Between series.

Beguiled was the kind of book that I wanted to hurry through to find out who was after Defiance and her crew, but yet I wanted to take my time and savor the moments I got to spend with Darynda’s words. Bec

3.5/4 stars. This was kind of all over the place but I just live these characters so much... the plot is just a roller coaster🤣

Beguiled is another wonderful story in the Betwixt and Between series! Jones delivers her signature laughs and right out, "Didn't see that coming!" throughout the story. The sexy, Roane is back and better than ever. Defiance finally comes to grips with her magic and works out her relationship issues with the tasty shifter. Beguiled has just the right amount of mystery and steaminess. I am thrilled that Annette will have her own story in the next book. ...more

Another 5 star book in my opinion from Darynda! ☺️ I love how these books leave you wanting more.

Defiance inherited her grandmothers house Percy, which is really her grandfather. She pulled her grandmother out of the Veil in book 1 and now her grandma is engaged to the chief of police. Her best friend moved to Salem with her and so did her dads. There is a wolf shifter, wilt wearing groundskeeper named Roane and a little ghost boy Samuale (That catches you up from the first 2 books).

Defiance is

I LOVE the author's sense of humor. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. So I think she writes no wrong. This new series had me laughing and smiling as much as the Charlie Davidson series did, so I'm a fan. And I like the imaginative magical scenes. I'm never quite sure where the mystery or story will go next, which makes this author a very fun read, IMO.

This is the third in the series and marks the entrance of the 2nd charmling, and some foreshadowing of fights and friends to come, as well as an engagement, a n

With this one Defiance seems to be a bit more comfortable in her powers and role. While figuring out what happened to her Grandmother, she uses her powers and asserts her place in the coven. Of course while doing this all sorts of things go wonky, usually with Annette around. Annette manages to learn a bit about herself in this one, but all it does is cause more questions. By the end of the book Defiance has figured out who wanted to harm her grandmother, taken care of things and now they all ar ...more

A rating. I've loved every book in this series, but this was my favorite installment yet. That ending?!? OMG...not a cliffhanger, but it definitely left me with my mouth hanging open and then laughing with delight. PERFECTION!!

Loved it

Wow! What a rollercoaster ride that was...absolutely loved it!
That's the thing with Darynda's books...they take you for an amazing ride...
You can read the synopsis to find out what the book is about but what it doesn't say is how well the authors writes a story. Darynda writes a great tale of magic and romance...I love this series!

Why Must We Wait ... For MORE (Review of the whole series)

Usual etiquette calls for review of each book in a series separately, pssht. That's fine for people who didn't read all three books in one go over a fabulous weekend.

The problem with an author exceptionally good at entertaining her readers is
that it takes her months to write what captivates us into staying up all night if that's what it takes.

Months -> One night.

You see the problem?

I am a HUGE fan of Darynda Jones, so when I was given the book and asked to review it....I jumped all over it. Now I will try very hard to do it without giving away too much of the story and possibly spoiling it for you. BUT if you are anything like me, any story by Darynda Jones is one that will be read over and over again.

Beguiled is the 3rd story in the Betwixt & Between series. I must say Defiance continues to live up to her name. She, her bestie Annette/Nannette & Roane have their hands fu

It took me a while to warm up to the series but who can resist Roane, Defiance and Gigi for long? Add to that a supporting cast full of quirks and surprises. This novel winds up the novels with Defiance Dayne center stage. It is filled with unexpected twists that kept me glued to the page. Almost none of the characters and elements Jones introduced in these three novels proved unimportant in the end (which would get a rave from my screenwriting professor).

The only downside was that the story ar

Fun read

Just like Darynda Jones’ other series, this is a fun way to get lost in mystery, friendship and romance. I would seriously like a peek into her brain to see where she comes up with these amazing characters (especially the men, like legit, the stuff fantasies are made of)!

This series does resonate with me, being a woman in my 40s, it’s refreshing to get to know a character who is realistic - well aside from all the fun magic and stuff, cause stuff does tend to jiggle. Every time a new bo

I loved the first two books in this series and really wanted to love this book two. But I just didn’t. I previously loved Roane, but did not like the way he treated Defiance in this part of the story. Additionally, the pacing seemed off. It seemed as if the author had a lot of things she wanted to get through in this book and felt compelled to include them all, to the detriment of giving each point the attention and build-up it deserved. Lastly, I felt that Defiance’s HEA/HFN was sacrificed so t ...more

I keep reading but why???

I hate the main character in these books. She isn’t believable to me as a 40 year old woman. She seems super immature and more like a 23 year old still figuring out who she is. I know from experience that people go through different phases of self discovery in their lives; however, she seems like she is just discovering herself as a person for the first time. It just isn’t believable to me. If I forget she is 40 I can read the book no problem. I keep reading them but I w

Wow Defiance just keeps it going, revealing more and more.

Roane wants to marry her but, she doesn't feel like that is something she wants. Everything has gone wonky, Annette is still mad about being turned into a bird and now someone is trying to kill them all. There is so much going on in this book and I love it.
The book starts out with action and does not slow down throughout. You learn a great deal more about Defiance, her family, Gigi, Annette, and the coven/cove. Defiance learns more about

Explosive.. literally!!

Beguiled is a charming fast pace book that will have you on the edge of your seat as Defiance and Annette unravel the real mystery behind who killed Ruthie Ambrosia Goode aka Gigi. In Beguiled ,
Defiance discovers how important her role is to the coven while exploring more of her charmling abilities with her funny BFF, Annette by her side.
From Nitroglycerin to mercury and all the poisons in between, Beguiled is an explosive read from the very beginning. By the way did I f

Excellent Story

I will say, this book didn't go anywhere I thought it would. At all. And, I believe that it should have included a picture of Roane. Gigi is back and a great cover story has been found to explain her existence so she doesn't have to hide away. Explanations are found and questions answered. A little boy needs to be found. And, someone is trying to poison them all. A lot of little adventures seamlessly brought together in one book. I have really enjoyed this book and this series.

So funny and inventive and full of woowoo

Darynda Jones is an amazing writer. She has developed a whole crew of loving, crazy, chaotic witches and humans and shifters and maybe vampires in present day Salem. In this third book of the series, Defiance is still trying to figure out her powers while avoiding being abducted or killed and meantime helping others. The orderly person I am holds my breath wincing at the tumultuous, disorganized action throughout the story. Even so the characters and hum

Adventure lives on after 40

This is not so kuch a romance. Roan and Defiance have an attraction, but there is no getting to know each other. Roan is a frustratingly mysterious guy.

A lot happens in this book. Annette becomes a more important character, which is really saying something. A hunter shows up, making the warlock threat more immediate. But the real conflict is about who killed Gigi.

Defiance is pretty settled after this book, so the next book will be about Annette.

I really love the humor

I preordered this this book immediately because any book from Darynda will have you craving for the next one. She has a wicked talented imagination and can whip up a magic storyline you can actually feel like your a part of while reading.
I love and adore all the characters in the coven. Defiance is a force like no other, and Roane is a kilt wearing gorgeous protector that keeps her out of trouble. Annette who happens to be her side kick and best friend gets her in trouble w

And the series continues!!!

I am so excited to learn that this series will be continuing and following Nannette, lol! I am excited about Samuel but really Def should not go into the Vail anymore. I knew not to the trust the neighbors since book one, I mean come on. But the twist about Paris, I did not see that coming. And real talk what is Olly. Elle is the third heir, right? Do they all share the same father? Who is the darkness that is coming? This warlock, is he good or bad? Who is Annette's p

I'm absolutely in love with this series. I read all three books in about 3 days, I could not put them down! I think this 3rd book is my favorite so far, the world building is solid at this point and the heroine is fully committed to her role so the plot is really starting to get going. This book had a lot of little fun plots and mysteries and they were all tied up nicely by the end with other longer plot threads gaining significant ground. A lot happened in this book, plot wise. Mixed feelings

It’s the only thing I can say about this book. It feels, somehow, rushed, going round and round, leaving me with more annoyance than the usual satisfaction I have when and after reading one of her books. And it deeply saddens me. I love the author, and those characters, but too much emphasis was put on Annette and what becomes the upcoming new trilogy rather than on the end of Defiance’s story. Which is why I’m both sad and having mixed feelings.

Right now, I am not sure if I will c
