Marilyn Woods in The Orangewoods, Seasons in the Country Artfully Lived, is a blend of love and joy, loss, and heartache, with triumph at the end. Through a series of short vignettes, the reader has glimpses into the lives of Marilyn and Jack, where they came from, how they came together, and the family they cherished. The author skillfully integrates art into the story, weaving her love of particular paintings as a backdrop. When her world turns upside down with the passing of her beloved husba ...more

The voluptuousness spills off the pages from the vineyards and orchards. The calm of rising and setting suns and full moon evenings combine with it to supply the luxury that only nature and quiet and countryside can provide. With masterful strokes, Marilyn Woods has painted with her words a tribute to a long era in her wonderful life. The vivid and crisp descriptions, seasoned with references to classic art works and contemporary music make photographs unnecessary. She has created a tribute to a ...more

Marilyn Woods writes beautifully with much love and gratitude. Her book, The Orange Woods made me laugh out loud at times, cheer for her, and then at times brought on tears of sadness. Only the best books do that. Living in San Diego county, this book spoke to me in many ways. I adored the love story of Marilyn and Jack and their love and zest for life and then the devastating loss of that love hurt as I read Marilyn's words. This story of raising a bustling family, creating a warm, comfortable ...more

This precious book came up on my Kindle less than 24 hours ago. I couldn’t put it down. It is a love story spanning over 50 years. Entwined are heartwarming stories of wedded bliss, devoted family, art, music, travel and the beauty of nature. It is a love story to Jack, the authors husband, the strong, witty and sexy radio personality turned farmer and winemaker. You will cry with and for the author as she learns to deal with loss and grief. Marilyn is gifted at weaving their beautiful true life

I don't say this frivolously, Orangewoods is a work of deep conviction and art, many, many will be moved and surprised by the events and the comfort it offers. While reading it, I looked forward to my evening, getting cozy in my bed and cherishing each chapter twice. A book like this can only emerge from an author with courage, insight, creativity, and strength unseen in many. A love story between a man and a woman, their family, friends, art, and land. It is the story of loss and strength to re ...more

The Orange Woods brought so many emotions...happiness, sorrow, empathy, love, laughter, joy, pain, angst...I simply can't think of all the words. What a beautiful and loving life lived because you followed your heart and your dreams.

I, too, had to make that final decision to remove life support and I believe that only one who has experienced it can possibly know the depth of despair one feels but at the same time know that it is the right decision.

A beautiful ode to friendship, love and marriage, birth and dying. “The Orange Woods—Seasons in the Country Artfully Lived” is a magical depiction of Marilyn and Jack Woods life after retirement, even when the story takes the inevitable turn down as she struggles with Jack’s illness and death. She paints her personal roadmap of moving on as she chronicles her healing process through writing and art. A book that I will definitely read again and pass on to friends.

This is a heartwarming, heartbreaking memoir filled with incredible writing, wonderful prose and vivid descriptions of the pastoral life with all its glories and challenges. The milieu is rural San Diego County, but the heart of the story is centered around two soulmates, their dreams and the family they raised.
A must read.
