In every new story we pick up, we’re seeking an exciting original voice. So why are there still voices we don’t hear from nearly enough? Why are there characters that so rarely take centre stage? How can you not be keen to read this anthology after a synopsis like that!
Odd Voices is a brilliant and inclusive feeling anthology. There are stories with narrators that we do not get to see much of in mainstream YA, and the stories span multiple genres. Obviously with any anthology I preferred some stories to others, but all the stories were of a high caliber.

Those stories were so amazingly original!! I love that each one of them had characters that you don't see often in typical novels. It's pretty incredible how much world-building and character development is contained in so very little pages. My favorite was 'Shoplifting' by Frances Copeland, providing a well-rounded voice to a wheelchair-bound girl, a story that was both tragic and funny. Hopefully this is the first of many Anthologies of not so normal narrators!

Can't express how proud I am of the Top Ten winning entries for our first OvO anthology contest. We were seeking unusual and diverse protagonists in YA fiction with no restrictions on setting or genre. This is a collection of our most captivating standout submissions with a foreword by the always passionate and insightful YA author Catherine Johnson, who has served as a mentor to both K.C. Finn and myself at different times in our writing careers.

Author Kell Cowley wrote and illustrated her first novel age eight, telling the story of a runaway radish escaping from a salad bowl to explore the far reaches of the garden. She has been perplexing her friends and family with her weird stories ever since. She holds a BA in Performance Writing from the wildly experimental Dartington College of Arts, won a novelist’s apprenticeship with the Adventu
