Essential Oils for Promoting Weight Loss
Discover a new way you can lose weight and boost your energy using essential oils.
I quickly stormed through this book when it showed up in the mailbox. I am in the midst of (another) weight loss journey, and I can use all the help I can get. Let me just say; I have a list of essential oils I'm buying with my next paycheck.
There are a ton of excellent tips in this book. It's my new favorite thing on my shelf. If you're struggling with weight issues, cravings, or in need of more energy - I highly recommend this book.
I got this book for free from the publisher, and this is an unbiased review.
This is a good resource guide for anyone wanting to learn more about essential oils and their role in loseing weight. I feel it was well written and documented.
I received this book from Callisto media and Rockridge Press for an honest review.
This book has some nice recipes in it, but there isn't much to it. It focuses on 7 essential oils (EO's) Fennel, Ginger, Grapefruit, Juniper Berry, Lavender, Lemon, & Peppermint. Every recipe is pretty much a variation using these essential oils.
On page 21 the author says that cellulite mainly occurs when your body has toxins in it. This is false. Women have cellulite due to the way our skin is. The fat is more visible in women because the fat cells & connective tissue are arranged vertically. In men, the tissue has a crisscross structure, making cellulite more rare in men. You can reduce the appearance of cellulite, loosing weight does help, but listen ladies, even Victoria's Secret models have cellulite. I hate that this book has recipes to help reduce cellulite. It's natural & women need to be easier on themselves. Yes, you can reduce the appearance, but it's temporary. Some women have worse cellulite than others, but 80 - 90% of all women have it. Personally I have not met a woman who doesn't have it. Heck, we had it in high school!
On page 42 she has a blend for sugar cravings. She says she has intense cravings for artificial sugar. Did she mean to say sugar? I found this confusing.
A good thing about each of her recipes is she is sure to warn if there are any health/safety reasons to not use a particular blend. A very common warning is: "Avoid use during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or if you have an estrogen dependent cancer or endometriosis" She gives no alternatives to these recipes, so for those of us who fall into these categories we get nothing. I happen to be in the endometriosis category.
For blends to deal with constipation or diarrhea she recommends rubbing clockwise (constipation) or counterclockwise (diarrhea) along your abdomen with the blend to help. This is likely helpful for constipation, but I'm sorry but when you have diarrhea, you can't rub it away. You just can't.
This has some blends I will use & many I wont (hello Endo!). Overall, the book is okay. If this is your first time with EO's, keep in mind that this is in no way comprehensive. However, it is good to learn an herb/oil in it's entirety before moving on to another. With this book focusing on only 7 EO's you can study them to your hearts content, learning all that you can. If you find you enjoy working with EO's you will then want to get something more in depth for these 7 EO's & it would be good to find a book that includes additional EO's for you to study.
If you are new to essential oils, then I highly recommend you speak to your doctor before trying anything new. It’s always a good idea to try oils on a small area before rubbing in a large spot on your body.
Boerner begins her book with essential oil basics and safety measures to take if you have never used essential oils in your home or on your body. All of the tips and recipes in this book are for use on your body or in a diffuser in your home. She goes into extensive detail about storage, mixing of oils, carrier oils to use, a dilution guide chart, and the importance of consulting your physician before ingesting any oils.
It’s important to note that while essential oils assist in weight loss, they don’t work alone. Diet and exercise are also key factors in contributing to weight loss. Boerner offers a list of questions to ask yourself regarding all the best tactics for achieving your weight loss goals related to alcohol and water consumption, sleep, sugary beverages, stress, and goal setting.
Essential oils can help boost energy, curb your appetite, alleviate stress, and help you sleep. Some of the oils mentioned and used include fennel, ginger, peppermint, lavender, and grapefruit oils. Each oil is explained with a list of their benefits, best uses, and precautions. Then Boerner goes into her recipes for various types of appetite management, energy, detoxing, and sleep.
If you are new to essential oils and looking for recipes for a home diffuser or ways to apply oils to your body, then this book offers a wealth of recipes and information for you to begin using. Of course, using oils in addition to following a clean diet and exercise plan is the best course for achieving your weight loss goals.
An easy to read and understand guidebook! While there is nothing really wow worthy here, it contains a lot of useful information! Each “recipe” or use includes the same handful of oils. However, the real winner was the amount of information included in the book! This was highly informative. I recommend if you are new to oils or looking to get started! My thanks to the publisher for sending me the review copy in exchange for my honest review!
You can tell that this book is written by someone who "gets it" and knows what it is like to struggle with weight loss. Not only does she focus on cravings and the normal weight loss tactics, she has advice on what to do when you have low energy, which many of us attempting to lose weight have.
Good primer on essential oils to help with weight control. Includes recipes for massage oils, inhalers, scrubs, soaks, creams, diffusers, washes and spritzers. I was somewhat disappointed that everything seemed to be a variation on a theme of the same handful of 7 oils that are described as being the best for burning fat. I tried a few recipes and they all ended up smelling the same. I guess I was hoping for more variety since there are so many different essential oils out there.
