So this volume felt messier and like a gore-for-the-sake-of-gore type manga. I really enjoyed Denji's backstory in the first volume, but now he's overshadowed by a myriad of new characters.

Character introduction
Like Bleach, it can be tough to keep up with the characters in the beginning - but the stark difference here is that Chainsaw Man decided to blast about five characters' backstories with a blunderbuss at the reader at the same time.

Meh..but yea. Good..but bad. Awful..but.. awesome. Hate it..but love it. I lost interest at certain points in the vol but I do still think this series is enjoyable.
Okay this volume is even better than the last.
This starts off with a bang as Chainsaw man goes head to head with the big bad from last volume. Gory would be the word but holy shit is it brutal fight. Then we get some amazing funny moments as we lead onto the next story act. When our main hero finally gets to touch some boobs he feels empty. his dreams weren't what he wanted. BUT when he touched the boobs of the woman he liked, everything changed. Now he must defeat the "Gun Devil" the one who c ...more

4.5/5 I love it. It’s irreverent and funny. It’s just a little raunchy. This volume we get a little back story on who the big bad is, The Gun Devil, whom killed 1.2 million people in 5 minutes and was never seen again.
Now the Demon Hunters use pieces of the gun demons discarded body to try to hunt him. Now teamed up with Aki and Power Chainsaw Man hunts down more pieces of the Gun Demon.
I love the art and the cover featuring Power is excellent.

This is so gory. It doesnt take itself too seriously as well. My only criticism is that we get a bunch of characters thrown into the mix, which can become a little confusing at times. The humour at times is great. The main character has some weird boob fetish but I guess this sometimes is the case in manga
Only two volumes and i'm going crazy about this series.
I like Fujimoto's drawing style, the design of the characters is really good and he clearly has a good imagination for the demons because those are some weird mother******!.
In this volume, you get to know more about some of the secundary characters and there respective abilities and i give props to Fujimoto here because the way those abilities work, they look really good and powerful (and i don't want to spoil anything here) but i don't thin ...more

While reading Chainsaw Man, is entertaining. The premise and writing itself isn't the best there is. There are some jokes that land quite well, there are scenes that are drawn very well and we had the first sort of "deeper conflict" regarding fulfilling short term dream. I was expecting something like that but, unfortunately, it did not deliver as much as I would like it to. More characters were introduced and they add much-needed interaction and worldbuilding. I still think this is a good fast

2.5. i have a vague prediction of where fujimoto will take the themes: classic deconstruction of the "monstrous", possibly a subversion with aki, disillusionment with ideals and dreams. power, makima, and himeno have enough agency to offset the sexism of denji's horniness.
this volume threw a lot of backstory at the reader. if this were a slower-paced manga it would feel more odd, but everything moves so quickly that i didn't mind. denji and power striking up a rapport feels realistic, as she's ...more

This book constantly surprises me. The lowbrow violence and hypersexuality is really a conduit for some of the most interesting, magical thinking I've seen in a Shonen manga in a bit. This was extremely fun, and full of insane imagery that's bound to stick with you. I want a lewd anime tattoo of Power, you can't stop me.

As I hoped, when Denji achieves one of his prurient goals, he realizes that it isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. Then he goes ahead and sets another prurient goal, which is somehow hilariously charming. There are some interesting stakes with the new demons they are fighting, and the team they have assembled is interesting! I am excited for the next volume!

I’m digging the series so far. Not a big fan of Makino or Hayakawa but that’s expected. Denji and Power are fun though
It's great to see Denji grow. The arc toward the end of this volume flounders a bit so I'm stuck at chapter 18... Once I get past it, I'm sure things will pick up. There's a lot of potential here and I can see why it recently got greenlit for an anime.

[READ IN JAPANESE] Moves in major fits this time, but still has its moments. I’d say this volume was less memorable than the first. Once again, I read this entirely in Japanese, so what follows will be a description of the entire plot as I understood it:
============== SPOILERS FOLLOW (maybe) ==============
Last we saw Denji, he was getting ready to take down the bat monster Koumori, and in the opening of this book he does exactly that. He saves Power (and her cat) from the monster’s stomach, and ...more

This volume expands the cast a bit, adding more supporting characters and fleshing out the backstory of Aki. The relationship between the main trio of Denji/Aki/Power deepens and the reader gets to see them interact more, and in different ways that test how each of them get along with and conflict with the other two. Most importantly is the introduction of who I assume is the BBEG or main plot-driver, the "Gun Devil". The idea that devils gain power because of what they're named after is cool, a

This second volume leans more toward comedy and psychological horror than the previous volume which was definitely ok in my book. It's always good to see a series develop into its more full-fledged form as you get more than just a first volume. It's been a while since I read a sequel so forgive my statement of the obvious. I had a fun time with this story. In this volume, we basically had two different stories. We start with the conclusion to the previous volumes ending ...more

To achieve the greatest goal in the history of ever, touching a boob, Denji will risk everything fighting the devil bat. But will it make him happy?
Starts out without with a massive fight scene. I love how funny the dialogue is. Everything is crazy and they are surrounded by death, but the characters really just have that "ah whatever" attitude. He isn't fighting the creature because it is the right thing to do, he really just wants to touch a boob.

Content warnings: Blood, gore, monsters
In Volume 2, we pick up with the bat devil fight. It’s fast-paced, but when Fujimoto decided to pause, it stayed with me. The way he contrasts Denji as a devil-man against the other devils and against the other devil hunters really works. He seems kinder than both parties, but really Denji’s a beast of his own. He just wants to do whatever will help him comfortable. And you know what, I support it.

Okay, I'm loving this series! Denji and Power play so well off each other, and this volume sees the secondary characters getting fleshed out more. The dialogue is snappy and fun, the action scenes are, well, good and action-y, and the devils are pretty creepy. The gore isn't super gross for the most part, which I appreciate; I also appreciate Denji's dedication to fulfilling his dreams, however small they may seem to the others. I'm looking forward to seeing this team of devil hunters come toget

Chainsaw Man continues its gore fest. Denji finally gets to touch boobs and has an existential crisis.
I'm still suspicious of Makima. Either she's the big bad or she's just a manipulative bitch. Either way, keeping my guard up. ...more
