1914, Broska, Ukraine. Alex Cohen (14) & Shaul Holub (19) were getting pretty good at Faro.
The Inn. Ruth Cohen (mama) was giving Alex (eldest bubbala) the business.
Shaul was going to host a bareknuckle fight.
Alex & Melek Liraz were going to be the main attraction.
The Cossack’s were coming & the Jewish PPL were running helter skelter.

Ok so I'm not gonna tell you the story, you can read it yourself. And you should. Personally this isn't my usual read... I like horror and thrillers and all things weird. Well, Broska Bruiser ain't that. Actually for me it was kind of a sleeper, I was reading, and then before I knew it, and way to soon, it was just... over. I never even realized I was so into it tbh. Definitely could've - and would've - read more. Lol, guess that's the point of a prequel, huh? Fyi, I read this free, but with no ...more

This is a prequel to the Alex Cohen series. After reading The East Side Hustler, it was fun to read this book to see how Alex got is start in a life of crime and the events leading up to his travel to America. Even at the young age of 14, Alex's brain is thinking of ways to make money, legal or not. We learn that his loyalties are only to himself and to his family. He learns that he can only trust himself to get where he wants to be. ...more

It was an interesting read, with the author giving us just enough to whet our appetites. This would be the type of book (or novella) that would spark the interest of someone interested in historical based fiction.

Thank you for the opportunity to read your book

A young jew in Keiv working at the local tavern, has ambition and this is where he starts. I see this novella as a launch into stories of his life in America.

When I started the book, I couldn't get into the book initially but that was my personal experience even though I found I had been silly as I found it too interesting and fascinating that I couldn't sleep until I finished it as it was so very, very good. ...more

I received this book as an Arc from the author. I’m writing a review because I honestly loved it! This novella is about survival and a choice by a boy about abandoning his family during Hitler’s extermination of Jews. Really gripping story!

What a violent, doublecrossing world Alex lives in! He's only 14 yet he helps carry the weight of his family. But his life is not of a typical teen. This is the story of his quest to make money and be his own boss. How it happened that he had to escape to the US. ...more
