Reporter, Bre Hayne, is on the hunt for a story. Finally, her big career break has fallen into her lap, and she has chance to get the scoop on one of the notoriously private shifters. Not many of them exist, but one Holt Lachlan has put an ad out for a mate, and Bre is up for the challenge. She’ll pretend to be interested, gather intel on him, and then scoot out of Uncertain, Texas just as fast as her old junker truck can speed her back to the news station. But the deeper into the story she goes, the more she realizes maybe Holt isn’t the one who is the monster. Maybe it’s her.

Alligator shifter, Holt Lachlan, is the center of an unfortunate legend. His family name has been tarnished by these swamps for generations, and he has to go outside of the town to try and find a mate. Desperate for something to occupy his inner animal, he meets up with a spunky beauty named Bre, and tells her the rules. The most important rule? Pretend he’s normal. Ignore the growling, don’t pay attention to his eye color, and definitely don’t go anywhere near the waters of Uncertain’s swamp at night. He’s protective of his territory, but the more he gets to know the bold and beguiling woman who has answered his ad, the more he thinks she just might survive his dark secrets…but will he survive hers?

Terrific alligator shifter story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️💜🩵
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 🙂🥰😎 😃😋

The heroine: Bre - she is a tv news reporter who wants her big break, so she can stop covering fluff pieces and start covering the real news. Actually, her cameraman and producer want it more than she actually does, though she is going along with their scheme to out one of the shifters. Shifters became known a few years back, but nobody knows who they are or much more than rumors about them, so when a shifter places an ad on the dark web for a human mate, they play along and Bre goes to his place with hidden cameras and all to get the story.

The Hero: Holt - he is very secretive and quite grumpy. He lives in the swamps deep in the southern United States, in a town called Uncertain, Texas (which by the way is a real town on the border of Texas and Louisiana, and it is known for its swamps). All the locals have heard rumors for generations of his family being shifters and they think he is a killer. Anytime a pet, livestock or anything like that goes missing, he is blamed for it and the townsfolk have never been shy about letting him know what they think of him. When his inner monster wants a mate and won’t give him any peace, he decides to advertise for a mate.

The Story: As soon a Bre arrives, Holt does his best to keep her at arms length or farther. He had an idea of having a mate, someone who would help him with his business, and would basically leave him in peace when he didn’t want her underfoot. Though Bre is a different story from the start. She is talkative, assertive and stands up for herself when his grumpy attitude frustrates her. Though he thinks he has to give her a wide berth from himself and make sure she doesn’t catch feelings because he isn’t able to feel like other people.

“If you’re lookin’ for some soft-hearted man who understands your feelings? It’s not me. I don’t do feelings. I don’t have them like other people, and the faster you understand that, the faster you can decide whether you’re in or out.”

I usually don’t like romance books where the heroine is a reporter for a few different reasons. Firstly because they are usually pushy and nosy, and I hate that in a heroine. Bre is all that but even so, I found myself liking her because she stood up for herself against a very grumpy Hero and she stood up for him against the townspeople. Secondly, I don’t like reporter stories because the reporter always seems to end up being caught in a huge lie, which also is the case with this one, but I didn’t mind so much since I really liked both characters and I liked the fact that there were other outside forces at work.

I tend to gravitate towards paranormal books that are outside the norm. Like different kinds of monsters and shifters. I rarely will read a wolf shifter book, because frankly they bore me. So, an alligator shifter was quite fun to read about, especially one where the Hero didn’t trust his inner beast not to kill his dog or Bre. He got bloodlust when he turned into a gator, which I thought was a great twist. This was a bit too short at only 217 pages, but it was good. I will most likely read the next book in this series which is about another gator shifter in Uncertain named Liam and the poachers out to get him.

Points for unique & unusual paranormal creatures, Alligator shifters have not had a lot written about them! That was the main reason I decided to give this a go, for something different. The plot had potential, but fell short on delivery. A lot of loopholes that were never really explained so left me confused of what was going on in places. The flow was decent. I never really got where I liked the main characters, Bre & Holt, though. She was too self absorbed about the next big story and he was too deep into his problematic life because of his "gatah" (I believe that's how he referred to all alligators). She did get out of her self absorbed ideals, but never really moved past- to be a good main character. He was so intent on alienating everyone because of his alligator side, that he really didn't get to where I liked him at all. When a writer sets both characters up as problematic, it can make me not like either of them, & if they are so problematic, why do I want to read about them. I also didn't see them as a match or chemistry, I understood the developing love, but felt it wasn't enough to make me believe in their relationship.

I didn't like that his animal side was to be feared even by her & his grandmother because he has no control, but yet he'll do things like destroy the poachers traps where he had to be in control of his animal to do these things, & say things about how loyal the Lachlan's are. You can't paint his alligator as a horrible creature to be feared but see softer sides to it, too much conflict. He was worried about letting Bre be around his alligator side because he was afraid it would hurt her. I don't want to read about the shifter whose side is so dangerous even his mate is at risk. In other shifter books, I always love the part where the woman wants to see the animal side, reaches out to touch the animal even though it could kill her, and marvels at the animal side of her lover/mate. I wanted to see her fearlessly be able to go skinny dip with his alligator knowing he would protect her from anything in the swamp, or sit on his "gatah's" back for a cruise around the swamp, or take a nap in the moonlight on the edge of the water next to him -type of thing (since the alligator came out at night only). That's the shock value I wanted from this romance, a woman who was not afraid of one of the most fearsome creatures because it was her lover's other half & would never hurt her. But there's no alligator mate touching for Bre in this book. Bummer.

So, I guess I was disillusioned about this alligator shifter book because of how I expected it to go. I don't regret reading this, but it is definitely not a book I would re-read. No, I'm not interested in continuing with the series either.

Unpredictable!!!

Bre Hayne, a reporter who was looking for big story, she got her big break when she saw an ad that the Alpha of a notorious private crew, Holt Lachlan was looking for a mate. She had a plan get the scoop then leave Uncertain, Texas as fast as she could.

Holt Lachlan, an Alligator shifter who found himself at the center of an unfortunate legend. His family's name had been tarnished by the swamps for years. Now he had to go out of town to find a mate, he met with a beautiful and sassy woman named Bre. He laid down the rules for her.

Their first encounter was interesting, loved how she stood her ground but I was pissed at her for the game she was playing with Holt. Then she went and changed the entire game which wasn't surprising. Their back and forth banter was a treat.

SWIM DEEPER is the first installment in T. S. Joyce's new series, KEEPERS OF THE SWAMP . What an incredible, fun and fascinating way to start off this series. T. S. Joyce never disappoints when it comes the hero/heroine embracing their flaws. Magnificent job! 5++++

There was no need for this to be as wholesome as it was. I went in expecting monster smut and left with a buoyancy in my heart I didn't forsee. I absolutely adored this, a grumpy sunshineish enemies to lovers vibe with gator shifters? Damaged grumpy hero who's secretly a wholesome guy? Hand it over!!! I admit, tears were shed near the end, I'm an emotional woman. But genuinely, this was so good. Super quick read, not overly instalovey, swoony hero and a heroine with a moral compass. What more can you ask for really?

I love shifter books, bonus points if the shifter is an unusual type of shifter. So when an author I liked came out with a Gator book, I knew I'd be reading it! Holt was more than a little prickly at the start of this one, in fact he was an ass! But later when you learn the history of Holt's family you see why Holt is so salty.

I liked how it didn't take long for Bre to see the charm of the swamp and Holt, for her to abandon the reason she found Holt and hope for something real. As great as things were going between them, you knew that Holt would find out the truth and when he did it would be bad, so no surprise there. What did surprise me was Bre's reaction. It was the right thing to do in so many ways, but mostly because hopefully the curse is now gone, letting Holt and Bre live their lives happy and together.

The gatahs are coming!

What is the difference between a good book and a great book? A good book has an enjoyable story, touches you a little, and you're glad you read it. A great book on the other hand has an amazing, innovative storyline. It touches you deeply, makes you feel what the characters feel, and makes you care about them. This is what makes G S Joyce an amazing author and her books great. Swim Deeper is another wonderful story. You will call in love with Holy and Bre. You will laugh, cry a little, and feel like you've made new friends.

💢OMG ladies get the tissue box ready because I’m still crying 😭

🔹️Holt Lachlan is a GatorShifter who is closed mouth, lol and won’t say a word either, so it’s easy for the little swamp town’s people to bully and shun him. Until this little spitfire redhead applies for the Mate position.

Oh YES definitely a Must Read!

I enjoyed this quick read and got a kick out of the alligator shifter concept. There was a lot to enjoy about the story, especially watching Bre fall in love with the swamp. There are also certain things about Joyce's writing that I've come to expect. Bre and Holt's way of falling in love was expected but sweet. However, this one had the potential for a lot more depth, and I would have loved to read a bit more on this couple and why they fell for each other, as well as other things that were touched on but then never explored. But still a nice story.

Ah yes my first really great romance read of 2022! This book and the authors writing was so fabulous! I wish it was longer!

Synopsis: Holt is a shifter who wants a mate so he puts out an advertisement for one. Silly I know! But the ad is answered by none other than a red headed, fire cracker called Bre who is exactly what he needs. Unfortunately, Bre went in as a reporter with hopes of exposing Holt but ends up falling for him.

It’s the cutest and shortest shifter romance story ever that I throughly enjoyed. I am definitely continuing this series!!

Read this book if you love cute couples, growly shifter men with sexy abs, fire cracker love interests and OFCOURSE happy ever afters.

Very sweet story about grumpy H and reporter heroine, which is my least favourite trope. The H is a actually a sweetie, and I didn't quite enough of his animal. The h is wonderful, smart and funny and a bit silly and she falls head over heals in love with the H very quickly. Loved the ending - great short story, and I hope we get more of their HEA in other books in the series. It felt a little incomplete.

Who knew an alligator shifter could be so sexyyyyyy

I totally adore t s joyce shifters books each and every one has touched my heart and buried themselves deep into my soul. This one is no different holt is an alligator shifter who only loves his territory the swamp hes lonely and at odds with his beast who wants someone to protect so he puts an advert out for a mate.. bre is a lowly reporter who is looking for a big break and so she responds to holts ad hoping to divulge his shifter secrets the problem is after meeting and spending time with him she starts to realise he is far more than the just animal inside him. Bre character is feisty and wont take no crap she will protect her own. Holt and his beast are finally in agreement bre is exactly what they need and want. This is a beautifully written romance and i look forward to adding this series to my collection. Book 2 i will patiently wait for. Love it.

Another new series, and it’s a winner!

I’ve honestly loved every book, every series by T.S. Joyce. I was kinda curious what to expect after leaving the mountains we’ve read about and the characters she’s brought to us. Goodness even the shifters before Damon’s Mountain - her writing gives us real love. No Prince Charming, no hallmark posters of the perfect couple and cookie cutter romance.

You get flaws. Imperfections that make each character and story a true treasure.

I highly recommend all her other books, but if you starts anywhere here is a great one.

Avoiding spoilers as it’s not my thing...you get two people quirks galore, figuring out life as best they can. Honest feelings, mistakes and rewards for being true to yourself and what makes your heart beat faster.

This series and any by this author are for any paranormal romance reader out there!

Keeper of the Lachlan Legend’s Heart 💓

Wow, just wow 😮 Finished this book a minute ago and I have to tell you I’m still recovering from some ugly (happy) tears 😭

Bre and her cameraman Brian are going to Uncertain, Texas in hopes of picking up a story that will help them pick up better reporting stories moving forward. However, Bre is not sure she wants to do this particular job and after one day with Holt, the growly and prickly shifter, she soon learns there is more to him that what animal he can shift into.

This story was phenomenal in that we had for the first time in a long time absolutely brand new characters and a whole new shifter world to explore and fall in love with❣️ Bre and Holt are my new favourite characters and I’m looking forward to Liam’s story next😍

Bre is looking for the story that is going to make her career. Holt thinks he is a monster and doesn't believe he can handle romance. The heart wants what it wants. Will Bre stick around when she discovers what Holt is? Will Holt be able to accept her apology?

I'm a sucker for a TS Joyce book and this one was no different! I loved the different spin in the fact that is was an alligator. Holt definitely had a softer side underneath his thick armor and I loved how he slowly came out of the way he viewed himself. I loved how Bre was determined to do whatever she could to protect him. One of the things I love about this authors books is you get strong men and women building each other up and protecting each other. Great read and cannot wait for more!

Love this new series!!

A gator. A mother fluffing ALLIGATOR SHIFTER. T always amazes me with her creativity and her ability to surprise me with more characters and more worlds where these shifters exist.

Another brand new series and world. I love THIS WORLD. I could feel the characters. My eyes were foggy with tears, I laughed.. not some girly, cute giggle.. No. I BELTED our like a hyena.

“She yanked off her eyelashes. Just… pulled them right off her face, and Holt watched in utter horror as the hairy black things floated down into the trashcan. “What the fuck kinda sorcery is that?””

This story was great! I loved diving into a new world with new characters and shifters. I can’t wait to see what she brings us with the next book!!

I could only give this 3 stars because once again T comes out with a really good story, and lovable characters but they have no meat, the females are always the strong I don’t need a man type, but they are always clumsy, almost always girly girl, dumb women, and the men are strong brutes with a strong protective streak which is great, but then they are dumb, and almost never have any goals or ambition above fighting and sex, all of the characters are super childish,it gets really hard to read when it feels like I’m reading the same books with different names! Could have been a great, and I’m sure most everyone else will love it,but I’m finally drawing a line.

TS Joyce is one of my go to authors for shifter reads, but this one was different more emotionally charged, then some of her other shifter books. The lead female going undercover to break her career wide open but instead falling in love with the gruff, hot as all hell who sometimes rude swap tour guide AKA Gator shifter, makes for an intriguing read! The emotionally stunted shifter and his lack of understanding of "human" woman is entertaining at times, his gruff exterior truly hides a giant softy, and shows when he gives those special moments! The connection between the main characters is there and the friction is amazing! Can't wait to read about Liam!

My Review

My heart has exploded into a million different pieces. All the feels. What I liked about the story? It resonated with me. Living. Love. Loyalty. Honor. Acceptance. The characters are fantastic. The story line is fantastic but that isn’t making this story a favorite of mine. I love that we have new characters and a different location. The potential is endless. The key is It’s rawness. The story was RAW. I could see, feel, hear everything. I was there. Rooting for love. Honestly, I never thought this day would come. Beaston and Holt hold my heart.

Guard your hearts!

I must admit that I wasn’t excited to read this one. I couldn’t wrap my mind around the alligator 🐊 shifter concept.

Oooooooooohhhhh BUT in true T. S. Joyce fashion, she snatched all the feels. I fell in LOVE with Holt, Uncertain, Gram, Fargo, Joe, and Liam. I laughed, cried, cheered, and hoped. I won’t spoil it, but I think this is one of the “deeper” books she’s ever written.

Sitting on the edge of my imaginary dock waiting for Liam to poke his head out of the water🥰#GatahBabe

Perfect.

Gosh. This story was beautiful and heartbreaking, sweet but mean, and I’m pretty sure I cried through the entire last 3rd of this story. It was so freaking perfect. I don’t know how this author continues to write such amazing, memorable, sad, beautiful stories, but I hope she never ever stops. I’ll never stop reading them.
