update 19.07.18 Earlier this week a sad reveal was made public in the final volume release of Tokyo Ghoul: re. http://kenkamishiro.tumblr.com/post/1... Ishida Sui confirms that the reason why the ending of the manga was so rushed is due to him falling out of love with his series. Everything makes sense now. I still love and respect him as an author regardless, hope he takes a much needed break and comes back with a new amazing project when he’s ready.

update 3.07.18. just read the final chapter.

I finished this yesterday but wanted to reflect on it a bit.

Tokyo Ghoul as a manga was messy at times. With RE especially adding SO many new characters it was hard to keep up with them all. On top of that the art would be amazing at times and other times hard to tell who the hell is who. The battle scenes could be spectacular to "what the heck is happening?" and the dialogue at times can be a bit cheesy.

Saying all that I think Tokyo Ghoul and its sequel Tokyo Ghoul RE will go down as some of m

I don't like reviewing manga. I think you get through them too quickly for a 'proper' review to be meaningful. I'd rather share my thoughts when I'm finished reading a series, so that's what I'm going to do here.
Tokyo Ghoul gets a lot of mixed reviews. Its at times very confusing and hard to follow, it's dark and twisted but I think it has a lot of heart as well. RE was a completely different kettle of fish to 'Tokyo Ghoul'. There are a lot of new characters to learn remember and a few returnin

I’m very happy with the way this series ended, I can’t believe that after nearly seven years I’ve finally completed this series.

the End.
This was my least favorite volume, I'm not sure how I feel about the end of this fantastic manga. The end was so sudden, I had no clue that I'm going to read the last chapter !!
Tokyo Ghoul is such a great installment, full of complex characters and complex world. Keneki-ken is such a great character in which I admire a lot !!!!!
I'm so relieved that I have been introduced to TG, and now I can't wait for season 4 of the anime.
I'm sad that it's over :(

I can't even put into words how much I love this series ❤❤❤
or how much I adore all those characters,
how happy that end made me or
how my heart is melting and breaking for my little weirdo, Uta ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I did not expect that.
And now... I'm sitting here... and dont know what to do... I already miss my Uta 😭💔

If I told you that I wanted a normal life, you'd laugh, wouldn't you?

It must have been nearly a year ago since I started reading Tokyo Ghoul. It helped me through some rough times and still does. Although I recognize the flaws of the final volumes (I was aware of their existence quite early on, because it was Sui Ishida's honest letter that drew me to his work in the first place), this manga has turned into a very personal experience. I love it to death and for that reason alone it's almost impo

And we're finally here, at the end of the line. I can't believe this is the last volume. The ending was not as great as I expected to be, but I guess this si what happens when you expect too much of something. I never lives up to your expectations. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either.

Anyway, here's my chapter by chapter chatter for the last volume of one of the very best mangas I've ever read.

OH. MY. GOODNESS. It's done. Tokyo Ghoul's done. I'm done. What do I do? I dedicated two years to the Tokyo Ghoul fandom. First binge-watching the anime and then inhaling the mangas. I truly found it hard to say goodbye to this world and the characters but seeing how they all got their own happily ever afters warmed my heart! (I definitely cried. I couldn't help my self, Kaneki deserved it!)

I'd like to thank Sui Ishida for dedicating 7 years of his life to Tokyo Ghoul!

I just truly can't put into words the amount of love and appreciation I have for this manga and author, no matter how many times I use the word "love" it would never be enough to express my feelings towards this manga.
Truly a masterpiece.
Amazing storyline and artwork.
This is definitely one of my favorite mangas of all time and I'm devastated that it finished but like everything in life it has to, in fact, come to an end.

So, final volume, new problem to solve and threads to resolve! Did it do well by it? I don't entirely think so. See, at the end of the last volume, we find out that the Dragon kakuja was only step one in Furata's plan for the ghoulification of Tokyo. Now, there is are kakuja with oviducts that are spouting fresh monsters that can infect people with ROS symptoms by Rc-filled poison attacks, and this works on everyone except Kaneki. You see where it is go

What an ending.

The art in Tokyo Ghoul is absolutely stunning. It's so messy and detailed. Like some places it looks like just scribbles, but it's so powerful. It feels like every single stroke has meaning. The use of the fully black panels or blank pages is so impactful. I held my breath looking at the wordless panels. Just absorbing the destruction and art of each panel. I love all of it.

The writing is so good too. I got lost a few times, especially with so many characters, but I really enjoy

I am going to miss Kaneki so much .. even though Hide just recently returned to the story he has been the reason for everything that happened.

If you have watched the Anime I would suggest you still read the manga it is much better, in depth and gives more insight in the characters and narrative.

Since there was a long gap between Tokyo Ghoul and :re it felt a little awkward in the start but once the story sets in you get a glimpse of the old manga.

That's one thing I don't enjoy as much... Ther

Absolutely outstanding. Amon's realization had me breathless, and the story of Uta, Hitori, and Renji had me feeling nostalgia. I adored this volume, despite the fact it featured Kaneki much less than it usually does. I feel like, this once, it was arranged in such a way, I felt nothing but love and admiration for the wonderful volume. ...more

okay,

first of all, this volume was extremely entertaining and I inhaled 300 pages in just a few hours

secondly, what the hell happened?

thirdly, I need to think about everything but I don’t have a good feeling about it. The ending feels like a Harry Potter ending which is garbage.

4 star rating is just for now.

Tokyo Ghoul is a beautiful work of art. It is easily the best series I have ever read. Action, love, horror, its all here, and im sad its over, but the ending makes it all worth it. I will certainly reread it many times.

As opposed to the original Tokyo Ghoul series, this sequel series does end with closure. I appreciate that. Any action and textbubbles were still needlessly confusing at times, but the tragic/depressing/painful moment still are drawn pretty nicely. The big bad that popped up in the series felt a bit disappointing. Still all in all a nice read.

Sometimes when you read something you've invested so much of your emotions into, you're left feeling empty when it's over. That's how I feel right now in the best way possible.
