A swashbuckling pirate romance complete with thumping adventure, devilish charm, a cocky Pirate Queen and a rakish pirate hunter; simmering heat and bitter heartache included.

'Well-behaved women seldom make history.' - Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

And this is exactly what Lady Vice seems to be doing. With weather magic on her side, she is the bane of the high seas. Songs are written about the famous Pirate Queen and the reward on her head would tempt even the rich. But she isn’t captain of her own

Finally! A pirate fantasy romance thats actually detailed about the pirating part!

Lady Vice is noble gentlewoman turned pirate who's made quite the reputation for herself. Stories say she's a soulless, murdering sea witch. No boat is safe from Lady Vice and her crew! In reality, that is definitely not the case. She's more of a confident, crew loving sea witch. Vice has fairy blood which grants her the ability to control the sea when she's near it. So she's able to steer a boat quicker and throug

I love a good pirate story and I love it even more if it has a feisty lady pirate. Add in some Fae magic, steamy enemies to lovers, and betrayal and I’m a happy gal. Can’t wait to read more about Vice and Knigh!

Beneath Black Sails was a lot of fun, falling in the pirate fantasy romance genre. One of the better pirate fantasy romances I have read with a really likeable sassy and clever heroine and the hero was also great.

Knigh (I’m sorry but I don’t like this name) is a pirate hunter out to capture the notorious Lady Vice, who has a rather large bounty on her head, one of which he hopes to use to pay off some family debts incurred by his father (who pretty much drove their family to ruin because of them

Say helloooo to my new fave bounty hunter! If I'm honest, he's also probably gonna make it onto the book boyfriend shelf, cause he's well... Delicious. No jokes, this book kept me up WAY too late for several nights in a row cause I just couldn't stop. I also held my breath to the point of turning blue multiple times 😬😵. The adventure, the romance 🔥, the DRAMA! Top notch! Not sure I've ever wanted to shake two characters so much in my life and at first, I thought that was a negative thing but on ...more

God, this book was fantastic. It marries two of my great loves: adventure/exploration and romance.

Reading this historic, adventure, enemies-to-lovers romance was like being there. You can see the ship and its crew, smell and hear the sea, cut the tension between Vice and Knigh with a sabre. Add the fae element and you get, quite literally, a story woven of magic.

Vice is an intensely likable heroine and Knigh, well. I love a man of conviction and real heart.

I will absolutely be reading this one

I flipping love pirates, I forget how much when I’m not reading a swashbuckling tale but heck, I adore them!

I've read this title for SPFBO 6 in which it is one of RockStarlit BookAsylum's semi-finalists. Check out the reviews of the team here.

Actual rating: 4.5*

I admit, when Belle announced her semi-finalist (which did not come as a surprise, really), Beneath Black Sails, I had to brace myself. Not because I expected it to be bad (I know Belle better than that), but because books with a romance plot in the focus aren’t something I pick up too often. Nor am I a big fan of nautical fantasy in general. S

Edge of your seat romance!

A gorgeous cover, an enticing blurb, and the incredible prose drew me in right away. Vice isn't your typical female lead, and nor is she your typical pirate, and more than once I found myself both amused and pleasantly surprised by how she navigated the winding path laid before her. Knigh came alive from the very first page! His past is shrouded in mystery, but it was just enough to make me want to know more. Sparks were practically flying from the page as the tension

Beneath Black Sails is my new favorite fantasy romance series! Lady Vice, and her high seas adventures, offer a thrilling read that captivates you from start to finish. Beneath Black Sails picks up 3 years after Across Dark Seas left off. Gone is the naive 18 year old girl who dreamt of adventure she had only read about in books. In her place we have a ruthless, 21 year old, magically inclined pirate queen whom songs are dedicated to and whose reputation proceeds her. However, as is often the ca

A simmering enemies-to-lovers swashbuckling tale with pirates (obviously), morally grey but completely loveable characters and sword fights galore. This was damn fun.

We follow strong willed Lady Vice, a runaway noble, as she struggles to prove her readiness for Captaincy while outwitting Knigh Blackwood, a calculated pirate hunter hot on her heels. One thing to note is Beneath Black Sails takes place in the same universe as Counterfeit Countessa - it's an old-worldy vibes setting with fantastic

Beneath Black Sails by Clare Sager
If you love cunning heroes, feisty heroines, and enemies to lovers romance, you'll love this new adult fantasy series that's perfect for fans of Sarah J Maas and Miranda Honfleur.

Our heroine can control the weather, but can she master her own fate? Particularly when our hero has very different ideas as to what that fate might be.

This is a fantasy story set on the high seas with pirates, magic and a bit of romance. The story is very well written with a well developed world that is fascinating to explore and discover. Our characters are also well developed with distinct and realistic needs, wants and desires. I particularly loved watching our hero and heroine interact as t

Received an ARC of Beneath Black Sails in exchange for an honest review.

I'd been dying for a good pirate fantasy and this book definitely delivered. Perfectly delivered enemies-to-lovers romance (and a very classy and noble love interest, which I appreciate so much more after reading so many enemies-lovers with toxic men on one side of it), and a well-crafted new world that I just dived into. I'd definitely recommend this to all YA fantasy fans.

Received this book as part of an Advanced reading team.
This book was exactly what I needed, to escape on a High Seas adventure with Lady Vice, Pirates, pirate hunters treasure, Fae magic and plenty swashbuckling.
I invite you to cast off the outside world and sale away from reality for a while!

I can't say I've ever read a book like this - as a romance reader I wasn't sure what to expect, but I wasn't disappointed. Sager weaves a beautiful tapestry, pulling fine threads together and the end result is a piece of art. This book has depth, angst, strength, sarcasm and sass in spades - pre ordered book 2 and can't wait! ...more

Another great read by author Clare Sager! A steamy swashbuckling tale about the notorious pirate Lady Vice, and the pirate hunter tasked with bringing her to justice, Knigh Blackwood. All set in a world with magic and fae. I binge read it, and now can’t wait for the next!

I loved this book. It's hard to find a good pirate romance but this book ticked all the boxes for me; adventure, romance, intrigue and really great characters.

Looking forward to the next in the series and I may just go back and revisit the Contessa whilst I'm waiting.

What a story. Intrique, suspense, what more can you ask for in a pirate book. Lady Vice would love a ship of her own, who knows, it might happen. The characters are fascinating. Don’t miss out.

Not going to lie I was hesitant reading Beneath Black Sails, purely because of the small number of reviews and it being on Kindle Unlimited (I've read some awesome books on KU but the last handful I tried were duds). So I went into this book with low expectations and was PLEASANTLY surprised.

Beneath Black Sails is a fun adventure-romance story that follows a pirate and pirate hunter across the sea. The enemies-to-lovers fans will much appreciate this story and so will the action-adventure fans.

Beneath Black Sails by Clare Sager is the pirate fantasy romance book of your dreams. I don't even know where to start with this book. I loved it so much. It's perfect for fans of enemies to lovers like Serpent & Dove or Blade & Rose, but also anyone looking for an entertaining high seas fantasy. There's pirates and fae, magic and mayhem, and, through it all, a storyline so captivating it will keep you up late trying to finish it. I am dying to see where this story goes! ...more
This, my friends, is Fantasy Romance with a big emphasis on the romance. If you like all the tropes that the enemies-to-lovers subgenre has to offer packaged up with pirates and magic, you could hardly do better. I personally am no avid romance reader, so while the storytelling is strong I was always going to find those tropes a bit much. That in no way invalidates this as a worthy, if familiar, read. Think Piratica meets Between Two Thorns with a snifter of steaminess and you'll be on the right ...more

Attention everyone, your search for the perfect pirate story ends here!

Beneath Black Sails was such a fun read – the characters are swoon-worthy, the plot twists unexpected, and the action, intense.

My younger self is jumping with joy at having found my next pirate fix after spending my entire childhood obsessing over the One Piece anime (gimme that Zoro!) 😻

When I started this book, I was so tired of reading about the same old bad boys. Refreshingly enough, Knigh is a total golden boy - a naïve,

Beneath Black Sails was my 2020 Lockdown read and just the real-life escape I needed.

The story delivers a great high-seas aesthetics that calls to mind the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, in terms of adventure and fun. Lady Vice, the magic-wielding pirate queen, is a multi-faceted character with her own triumphs and struggles. She’s smart, sly, and a legend in her own right. She is, however, flawed, and that makes her relatable.

The hero, Knigh, delivers everything I love about enemy-to-lover

Heart pounding and nerve wrecking adventures of a Pirate Queen. Between legends and monster, it is difficult to see the real person especially when they hide behind a mask or behind other’s prejudices. The characters were just damn well written, coming to life with their manners and feelings that brought empathy from the reader. Be it joy or rage. The twist that made the story turn darker leading to the next book was a very good plot point and I cannot wait to see the results. Just like I cannot ...more
