JESUS ROSE FOR ME by Jared Kennedy uses pictures and words to tell the true meaning of Easter. This board book for ages three to seven starts with Palm Sunday and ends with Easter when Jesus rose for us.
Children can learn that Jesus is alive!
Several pages have scripture references for adults.

This hard covered book is great for little hands, and sturdily made for them to carry around.
This book is timely as we are in the Lent season at this point, and I was looking for something to share with my little niece, and have her continue to grow in the Christian faith. The book has brightly colored pictures showing Jesus and his last week here on Earth.
Several of the pages also have scripture references for referral of the adult reading this too and encouraging the little one, while helping you answer their questions, and help focus on the real meaning of this Christian Holiday, beyond the baskets, eggs and rabbit.
I received this book through Read With Audra, and was not required to give a positive review.

The publications from New Growth Press that I have had access to have always been theologically sound and provide uplifting education through enjoyable reading.
Their children's books typically do not cater to the flippant telling of Biblical stories. In Jesus Rose for me the author retells the final week in the Earthly life of Jesus and breaks it out into four "chapters."
As a board book, it is directed to the younger child who typically handles books roughly. The text and the length of this book is geared, in my opinion, more to older "young" children. The illustrations are cute with the front and back covers of modern children and the prerequisite lamb and bunny. The interior of the book, though, reflects totally upon the Biblical recount often depicting with darkness facilitated by deep, dense colors expressing the emotional and spiritual portion of the story.
So while the book is longer than the typical board book might be, breaking it down into "chapters" and reading each at a different time, facilitates understanding on the young child's level. The vocabulary is fine. The four chapters include:
1. Jesus Rides Into Jerusalem
2. Jesus' Last Supper
3. Jesus Dies For Us
4. Jesus Lives
Opportunity is presented for discussion with pertinent questions at the end of each chapter. Not a "study format" simply along the lines of "think about" or "have you.....?".
I highly recommend.

I’m afraid I wasn’t very fond of this book. Parts were really well done, but overall I believe much of it is so speculative or oversimplified that it loses the original message of the text.
Following is a list of my concerns or questions that I had as I read the book. I did my best to carefully read each passage of scripture mentioned and others that recounted the same events and compare them to the ideas presented in this book.
First off, they were disciples, not just friends of Jesus. Yes, He called them friends, but the Bible always calls them disciples or apostles. Shouldn’t we do the same?
The Triumphal Entry –
The disciples praised the Lord for what they had seen. It seems to have a more God focus than this page makes it out to be in this book.
The whole Jesus is a friend of children and sinners, while theologically correct isn’t actually what was said that day so wouldn’t it be better to stick to what was recorded in all 4 Gospels instead of making things up?
The Last Supper –
I understand that the Passover was a reminder of the glorious deliverance of Israel from Egypt, but their supposed discussion of it was the only thing mentioned in this book to the exclusion of some of the most comforting teachings Christ left the church the night before His death. The last sentence of that page strayed even farther into speculation.
The actual discussion of the elements of the last supper was well done until he discusses the wine. Jesus’ words are carefully repeated with little to no variance in four books of the Bible. The author chose to change it by inserting a sentence about forever family. The insertion makes me wonder if he believes that salvation in some sense is dependent on the taking of the elements.
The Crucifixion –
The guards didn’t mock his power as a king. They mocked his ability as a prophet. Herod mocked his authority as king in the sign on the cross.
Nowhere does it say Calvary was a big hill.
The Resurrection –
The last part that discusses the reason for Christ’s sacrifice was really well done. I appreciated those pages. They just didn’t make up for the rest.
I believe that is extremely important to be as accurate as possible when recounting Bible stories to children, and I’m afraid that this book doesn’t do that for me.

By my count, there are approximately one million Easter-themed children’s books published every year. Probably a bit of an exaggeration, but it’s a fact that every publisher—Christian and secular—are all jockeying for position in the Easter basket. I’m probably getting this review in too late for this year (I’m writing this on Palm Sunday), but Jesus Rose for Me ought to win out over all others this year.
In Jesus Rose for Me, Jared Kennedy goes beyond just the typical Easter story, including scenes from the Triumphal Entry and Last Supper. This helps provide crucial context for the story that—even for toddlers and pre-readers—is important.
Each story is told in six panels, bookended with Scriptural references and a call to action.
In the Triumphal Entry, your little ones will be asked “Why do we praise Jesus?” The answer? Jesus is the King God has promised.
In the Last Supper, “What helps you remember your family?” We make picture albums and tell stories…[Jesus] gave us communion to help us trust and remember him.
It really helps little ones (and bigger ones!) see these stories as more than just fun tales, but stories that have a lesson and a purpose for us today. The language is simple and straightforward, perfect for the intended age group. With four stories (Triumphal Entry, Last Supper, Crucifixion, and Resurrection), you could easily make this a Holy Week devotional.
Trish Mahoney’s illustrations are superb. Bright and colorful, they will capture your child’s imagination and lead this to ask questions and drive them deeper into the story.
My children and I have really enjoyed reading Jesus Rose for Me. It’s going to be a daily bedtime read this Holy Week.

Are you looking for a children’s book on the last week of Jesus? This new book published by New Growth Press might be a book you want to get! It is meant for children ages three to seven. I read this aloud to my daughters and they loved it.
I wanted to read this book to my kids since previously I have been blessed by the author’s work for kids with the same publisher, New Growth Press. This work continue in the same vein of being biblical, clear to understand for young children and also have illustrations that are kid-friendly.
The book consists of four “chapters.” In the first part the book goes over the story of Christ’s triumphant entry. This is followed by “Jesus’ last supper” and “Jesus died for us.” The final chapter is titled “Jesus lives” and goes over the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Together they cover the last week of Jesus.
I was quite blessed to go over this book with my daughters. I found the language and vocabulary just right at the kids’ level. I also enjoyed how each section also give Scriptural references so that one can look it up in more details from God’s Word. This is extremely helpful for me. I do recommend this.

This board book retells the Easter accounts in simple language for toddlers, and includes Jesus riding into Jerusalem, the last supper, Jesus’s arrest and crucifixion and his resurrection. Kennedy is skilled at turning the biblical accounts into age appropriate yet still accurate stories for children. There is a question at the end of each to consider together, helping kids to see how wonderful Jesus is. The illustrations by Trish Mahoney are eye-catching, and match the accounts well.
It is worth noting that they are the same four bible story accounts already in Kennedy’s The Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible. It even feels like it has been ripped straight out of a larger bible story, because there is a ‘tag’ every couples of pages naming the story. Owners of that will not want to also get this. However, this smaller version might be a good gift for others, or perhaps an introduction to that book. This well-done educational story begins with a quick and clever recap of Jesus’ followers and miracles. The heart of the story follows Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem, the Last Supper, including an explanation of communion, and the passion of Christ. It falls short of a full explanation of the resurrection by only describing that the tomb was empty. There’s a lot of information packed into a well-written children’s book.
Additional educational features are Bible verse references and questions to the reader that help children relate the story to their own lives. Complex concepts are presented in child-friendly language, such as... Everyone who trusts Jesus is part of His forever family.
Jesus Rose for Me is perfect for an Easter gift or for a Christian classroom library. It would make a great tool for explaining the foundation of Christianity to little learners.

The Sunday when Jesus rose from the dead is called Easter Sunday. Every Easter we celebrate that Jesus is more powerful than death. Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus rose for me! and You!
Easter is upon us and this is a wonderful resource to read with your young children about Easter. It is a short book starting with Jesus entrance into Jerusalem and what it meant. The illustrations are vivid and bring to the heart of what scripture says. The book ends with the tomb being empty and why we celebrate Easter. The most helpful to guide your children is the meaning of communion - the last supper. The meaning of the sacraments is rich with the Gospel. Each chapter starts with scripture and ends with a question and an answer to discuss the deep things of God. Yes children and parent will share the meaning of the Gospel in the most meaningful of ways. Highly recommend.

Jesus rose for me, for you and for all of the little children in our lives. This colorful board book would be a great addition to any family’s library. Though made of sturdy thick pages suitable for a baby, there is just the right amount of text to keep toddlers and preschoolers engaged and learning about the life of Jesus. Throughout the pages, the stories of Jesus’s ride into Jerusalem, the Last Supper & the crucifixion are told. This book chronicles the Easter season which of course, ends on the everlasting victory story of the resurrection. Full of beautiful illustrations and informative text Jesus Rose for Me will springboard spiritual conversations and has the scripture notations for further growth. This book would be the perfect addition to an Easter basket or a surprise gift for a child to receive in the mail from an aunt, uncle or grandparent.

A bright, colorful board book that tells of the importance of the events leading up to Easter Sunday and what Jesus' death and resurrection means for us. Written in simple, yet straightforward way targeted at ages 3 to 7 years old, it explains the significance of why we celebrate Easter.
I loved how this book is easy to read, with a more simple vocabulary for beginning readers, it also has many great talking points and conversation starters, as well as Bible references for where the original text can be found. I also liked how it talked about communion, and how Jesus died for us, and why that is important.
Overall, an excellent board book that is perfect to share with the young person in your life, great as a gift or just because. I loved how it presents a cornerstone of the Gospel in a way that young children can understand and invites them to ask questions, which can lead to meaningful conversations. Highly recommend this wonderful book!

Jesus Rose For Me is a great discipleship tool for toddlers, but it also provides space for including the entire family while reading the story. Jared Kennedy’s text and storyline is written on an appropriate level for toddlers to follow and understand. The illustrations by Trish Mahoney are very colorful and age appropriate. Both Kennedy and Mahoney do a great job of being faithful to the story of Scripture. The one critique we would give the book is that the story ends abruptly and should have incorporated the story of Jesus appearing to his disciples after his resurrection. Throughout the book it mentions Jesus with his friends. By ending the book with Jesus reuniting with his friends it would have brought the book to a better ending. However, we would still recommend Jesus Rose For Me to families with toddlers as a good resource for sharing the story of Easter with them. There is no more important story to share than to teach children what Jesus has done for them through his death and resurrection.

Jesus Rose for Me is a beautiful board book that will introduce children to the events that took place in the life of Jesus from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. The text is easy to read and the accompanying illustrations are quite beautiful. I found the hardcover book itself easy to hold while reading with both my four-year-old daughter and six-year-old son. Both my children were able to read the majority of the story with a bit of help from me.
I would recommend Jesus Rose for Me for families looking for religious books to add to their shelves. I think this book would encourage children to go and read the Bible as they look for the scriptural references that are included in the book.
Jesus Rose for Me would make a nice gift for young children or a good book to add the shelves of a church nursery or Sunday School.

Jesus Rose for Me by Jared Kennedy is another one of those Solid Easter Story books that’s well suited for teaching the meaning of Easter for kids.
I love how we can have many Easter story books and, just like the original Gospels, focus on something different, for a different but similar purpose!
Its 4 ‘chapters’ each begin with a little flag with scripture references, which is awesome for further study. Each section also ends with a question and answer to think about.
I think this is an excellent answer to how to explain Easter to a child age 4-7ish. It is specific, brief, and hits the important points.

From the Triumphal Entry to the Resurrection, this book breaks down the Easter story in sections with an easy to understand recounting of the events, followed by a personal discussion question and a brief summary of how the event connects to life today.
The illustrations are very attractive and appealing for little ones--simple and colorful. I would recommend this as a resource for preschool to early Elementary school children. I appreciated the clarity of the Gospel message in this book and as I read it to my boys, they were able to follow along and enjoyed interacting with the book/story. I think this is a wonderful resource to have in your home...it can be read all year long, not just at Easter!

This is a sturdy, large board book with colorful illustrations that three to seven-year-olds will love! The story is told so it's easy to understand for children and the Gospel is also explained clearly. I liked that the question was asked if you've ever asked Jesus to forgive you and that there were a few other questions asked that makes the story more personal and that you can ask the child to think about. At the beginning of each story it gives Scripture references so you can look it up if you want to find it in the Bible. I highly recommend this book to help children understand what Easter is all about!

Book is beautifully illustrated. I liked how it was arranged chronologically and transited well into the Easter message. Also loved that the book touched on Jesus' last supper - not many children's book touch on that. The book comes with some helpful bible verses to refer to so you can stop at important section if you wish to.
However, I did find the book to be oversimplified in its Easter message. I could not interact with the book in a personal and meaningful way as I would have liked. I know its a children's book but I would have liked the author to talk more about the essence of easter. (i.e unmerited grace, forgiveness, and mercy

This is such a delightful book for children of all ages. It's perfect for Sunday school and for parents who sometimes find it difficult to explain the brutality and sacrifice of our Lord. It's a great illustration on all the important aspects of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but it also makes it very easy for children to understand the magnitude and love Christ has for all of us. I thoroughly enjoyed this lovely book and I would hope that it will help young children to understand what Easter is truly about, and that it's not about a bunny and hiding eggs, but about a man who chose to die for the people that He loves.

Wow! This book is great for a variety of ages. The illustrations are simple, yet beautiful, and keep you engaged but not distracted.
The honesty of the gospel story in this book is refreshing. This is told plainly enough that your younger children can stay honed in to your reading, but has enough grit and extra scripture references that your older kids will find themselves coming back to it. I love the education element/explanation of the communion story. It often gets glossed over in children’s books. This will be a great addition to my kids’ Easter baskets this year!

I bought this book for two year old twins, so my review is because of MY mistake! Since it’s a board book, I thought it would be appropriate for babies and toddlers, but it’s a bit more advanced than what these two will sit through and engage with. I think the storyline and pictures are really well done, just more appropriate for older kiddos! (We have read it a time or two, but end up using the pictures to discuss the other Easter stories we’ve read - so still a useful tool.)

This is a sweet Children's book about Jesus' last week before his death. It includes the trumpet entry, the passover supper, the prayer in the garden, his death and resurrection. A good overview for teaching young children about the reason behind Easter.

Delightful book showing children who Jesus is what He means to us and about Easter. Teaching kids that Easter has more meaning than Easter bunny, colored eggs and candy but about the sacrifice that Jesus gave to us.
