The Cat Ladies in this story are so very, very likable. From glam Millie, errand running Molly, bird watching Merhtel and rocker Maridl and it is Princess the cats job to take care of them. The book Cat Ladies shows you exactly how she does that until a stray comes along. This throws Princess's life into turmoil and she decides that she has better things to do with her life. In the end Princess realises that she is the one that needs the Cat Ladies and that the stray isn't so bad after all. Susi

This thoroughly hilarious picture book turns the whole cat-lady trope on its head in such a clever way! Without illustrations, the words would have one meaning but the vibrant and charming art reveals a completely different and completely original subtext. The cat main character is quite the little diva reminiscent of Olivia the Pig; author-illustrator Susanne Schaefer manages to make her personal and sympathetic even while she’s having her little tantrum. Replete with in-jokes as well as child-

Spunky ladies, a spoiled cat, and a stray...child? By turning the cat lady stereotype on its head and telling this charming tale from the cat's point of view, Schaefer lands on a fresh story full of heart and whimsy. The illustrations are bursting with color and story, so much so that I longed to know more about the origins of the band and the relationship of the child. But those details aren't necessary and leaving them out fits purr-fectly with seeing life through a cat's eyes. This story is r

Possible contender for Mock Caldecott. Cute, cute, cute. Princess is a cat with 4 ladies and she is very happy with that. Each lady has a special bond with Princess and she has them well trained. But one day a stray showed up...I suspect someone's grandchild...and all of a sudden her ladies were overlooking her and spending all their time with the stray. Everything was out of balance and something had to be done. Fortunately, Princess knew what to do!!!

In a witty role-reversal plot, a flamboyant cat throws a fit when she spots a "stray" among her ladies. But that's not the entire plot. As the story unfolds, we gradually get to the subtext of what it takes to welcome and include someone new, someone different. The illustrations are loaded with colors, charm, and details layering the story even more. CAT LADIES is as whimsical as meaningful, and comes with gorgeous art to feast alongside!

I won this book in a giveaway and I'm so glad I did because it is SO cute! I love the clever play on what it means to be a "cat lady" :) After reading it to my 5 yo daughter she said, "This. Is. EXCELLENT." And then she carefully went through and studied each page again. The illustrations add a lot of personality to the story and its characters. I especially like the grandma with the sweet leather jacket haha. Very fun read, definitely recommend!

Susi Schaefer's art is exuberant and her text deliciously understated. Subtly perfect book for the jealous sibling of a new baby, the book provides hope that with "proper training" the new baby can be something much better than a nuisance.

Princess the cat has five little old ladies to take care of her; and she loves her life just the way it is. But when a young child shows up...it ruins everything. It takes a while, but Princess does come around to this newest lady.

Cute enough. Imagine "The Golden Girls" got a cat. A little girl shows up and the jealously steps in. The rest is formula, but it's cute.

I loved this book. A delightful take on cat ladies.

I liked that all the characters in this book were female (and especially that most were older women), but I thought the use of "stray" to refer to a human was weird.

This is lovely childrens book that will teach children about a pets jealousy over a new family member which i can totally relate to. My cat gets jealous over my boyfriend and likes to assert herself so much that we have to share the bed with her at night! I can't wait to read this to my nephew when he's a bit older.
