Billingsley #3

Taming Wes

Rate this book
I have one rule: I don't do relationships.

The last thing I need in my life is a woman trying to tie me down.

There was only one woman I’d ever considered breaking my rule for.
That was until I received her wedding invitation in the mail.

I learned my lesson after that, and I don’t make the same mistake twice.
I reinforced my walls and never considered letting them down again.
Not even for the mysterious, gorgeous new woman in town.

Friends, I can do. Friends with benefits, even better.
But that’s where I draw the line.

Problem is, Devin is standing on the other side of it.

Taming Wes is not that impressive. I try to like this book more than 2 stars. But the silliness of the characters are just.... ridiculous.

Plus it got really cheesy in the last 2 hours of the story. Wes and Devin had been flip floping on their attraction in a silly way. Some of it so immature.

Anyway.... moving on....

YAY...I finally got the chance to meet Wes!

Imagini pentru yay gif

Taming Wes by Melissa Ellen was my most anticipated book of the year and is the third book in Billingsley Series. The first book being Redeeming Lottie and the second book, Chasing Hannah. A romantic comedy, loveable, sweet, funny and easy to read.

Imagini pentru love it gif

Wes is Lottie's brother in law...He is a guy that everyone loves, especially the woman, but no one has his heart. Or so he makes us think. He is a great guy, hot cowboy, and a good friend, especially Hannah's best friend.

Devin is the new VET in town (I love her for that because I'm a vet too😛 ) Although they knew each other since they were kids, Wes didn't recognize her. She became a hot sexy woman, as Wes says "

" A natural beauty - dark raven colored hair, beautiful brown light eyes, a tight, petite figure, with just enough curves to grab on to, and full lips. I wanted to do dirty things with that mouth. The same mouth that was frowning at me now."

Wes and Devin are very attracted to each other, they both want something more, than be just friends, especially Wes, but Devin knows she couldn't do the friends with benefits shit.

Devin as a character captivated me from the start because she was so strong, very fierce, stubborn and independent woman. She was very straight from the beginning and very firm. Like Wes said :

"I lowered my beer as she spoke, a warning in her tone as her gaze sliced through me. As determined as she sounded, I could see the heat in her eyes. She wanted me, but she wasn’t going to make it easy. It was nice to know she held herself to a higher standard. Most of the women around here hardly ever made it a chase. That alone made her even more attractive to me than I’d already thought she was the moment my eyes found her. "

But...as strong as she was at the beginning...as soft she became. Wes was like an addiction. That's what I didn't like. I wanted more fight from her part. She was the first to be tamed.

Wes as a character was good. As I said in Chasing Hannah, I wanted him and Hannah together, but as BFF they are hilarious. Finally, Hannah admitted that they are BFF. He actually gave me some mixed feelings. I'm not going to say more about this, because I don't want to spoil the goodness.

Overall this was a great and hilarious book, actually, the whole series is just like that. Although I don't enjoy so much second chance romance, Redeeming Lottie remains my favorite book in this series.

I swear I want to move and live in Billingsley. I fell in love with that town and characters. I don't want it to end. Please...Pretty please!

Imagini pentru begging gif

By the way...The series has some great secondary characters and I really, really, REALLY hope that Ms. Melissa Ellen could bring their story to life in the near future, in this series or another. Characters like Roger, Leighton, and others. That's the author's credit. The books as so good and well written...that you as a reader, are just right there, in the book, in the middle of the action...friends with the characters.

So if you are looking for a good, hot, easy and hilarious read, this series is the one for you. My heart is broken right now...I hope this series never ends!

I highly recommend this Series! 💗

This book had it all. I was rooting for Wes & Devin from the moment they show up on the page together. Melissa Ellen does an amazing job of putting you right in this quirky and quaint small town. I loved that we got to see all the characters from the other two books in the series. FIVE big stars for this fun and flirty read.

Wes is close to his family, a loyal friend and has a way with woman but never for more than one night. He has been hurt in the past so he guards his heart very closely but there is something about the new vet in town that has him second guessing his attitude when it comes to love and relationships.

Devin had been with her ex for four years and believed they had a future together until she realized he was not the man she thought he was. She has moved to Billingley and joined her Uncle’s vet clinic and she has seen first hand Wes’s feelings when it comes to women and isn’t about to be the next woman he loves and leaves.

There is no denying the chemistry between them but with Devin looking for forever while Wes is looking for right now their journey wasn’t without its complications. Wes is the perfect combination of sweet and swoony while Devin is strong and determined and there is a great cast of secondary characters that make their story even better. I thought that the narrators were the perfect choice for this small town romance and the characters they portrayed.

My favorite Melissa Ellen book to date! A hot, cocky bachelor with a big heart and a reluctant to fall again, independent woman- the chemistry between Wes and Devin was red hot! I fell in love rooting for these two. Melissa's descriptions of characters and places, creative story line, and whole Billingsly town are everything I love in a great story. You will feel everything right along with this couple and I even laughed out loud a few times at their witty banter.

How do I possibly describe Wes?! He has this one rule, which is no relationships, and there once was a woman that he almost broke it for, even after he got her wedding invitation in the mail, but didn't, and that only cemented that rule further. And he pissed me off as much as he did Devin, the new woman in town that he couldn't stop thinking about. Yeah, because as much as he thought about her, he also was a total douche to her as well. And Devin, well, I loved her, and she didn't deserve how he acted, especially after what she had been through with another playboy who had been acting as her longtime boyfriend. Yet, she still stood toe to toe with Wes, not backing down, so total respect here. They became friends, though the chemistry was thick, and OMG the cast of secondaries took her side, and there was so many hysterical moments in that, well, that my stomach hurt from laughing long after I finished. The push & pull was frustrating to the extreme, and yeah, I blame Wes completely for it, because at this point, I'm so far into the story it's not even funny. That chemistry that was so potent? It ignited into sexy times that set the sky on fire! And even in moments leading up to it there was humor (I'll never think about scorpions in the same way again). Melissa Ellen has such a way of writing a story that is just simply brilliant & original, that I hope she never stops writing! Anyway, enough out of me, just read this story that I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Wes and Devin

Wes wasn't particularly likable, not hateable, but not likable. He was really pushy with everyone.

The ending/twist was ridiculous 🙄

Wouldn't read this one again.

It was just meh.

When Devin meets Wes, she's already unimpressed. Yes, he's hot, but she already knows who he is and what he is - an eternal player, and she's been hurt, so no dating players for her. Wes is intrigued and attracted by the new woman in town. She turns him down immediately, but he can tell she wants him (eye roll!). Now he just has to figure out how to get her to cave to the attraction he knows she feels. But, only for fun, because he doesn't do relationships and he doesn't date.

It's the age old story of the player brought to his knees by a sassy woman. But it's done well. I can say that Devin is my favorite part of Taming Wes. She's sweet and strong, and I like that she resists him at first. I wish she had resisted him longer, though, or perhaps even had found someone else because I don't think that Wes was good enough for her. In fact, Wes is the sole reason for 4 rather than 5 stars. I just didn't like him. He didn't treat Devin very well, and fought his feelings far too long, hurting Devin needlessly. But aside from Wes' rather unlikable character, I really liked Taming Wes. It's sexy and both the relationship and the characters are fully realized and well drawn. I'm looking forward to more of this series and from this author.

This might be my favorite of the series! Wes was sweet, sensitive, and an alpha cowboy hunk. Women flocked around him waiting for any kind of attention he was willing to give. Wes had his own baggage and issues.
Emotionally unavailable and unwilling to commit, he also has a weird past attachment to his best friend Jenna who he pushed away just prior to her wedding.
Devin had broken up with her longtime boyfriend after finding him cheating with a co-worker. She makes a big change by partnering with her uncle at his veterinary office.
Meeting and falling for the undateable Wes was not part of her plan, especially since Jenna is her cousin and her best friend.
This sweet and steamy romance between Wes and Devin was well written. The author developed both characters well, and I liked that Devin was smart and capable. I also liked that there weren’t too many external factors that kept getting in the way of their relationship like Tucker and Lottie’s story.
In that story, it seemed like everyone was trying to keep them apart, in this story, family and friends try to get them together.
I was pulled into the story and also wanted a HEA for this sweet couple.

Aaaah! I seriously have so much excitement for this book! I think Taming Wes has become my new favorite in the Billingsley series. I knew whatever Melissa Ellen wrote I was going to love, she is definitely on my list of ‘automatically one-click’ authors, but I didn’t realize how much I would love this book! After reading it once, I wanted to dive back in and read it again. Wes and Devin are so perfect together and I could read about them falling in love over and over again.

We get our first major taste of Wes in Chasing Hannah, the second book in the Billingsley series, and I immediately felt drawn to his dynamic character. I was ecstatic when I found out he would be getting his own book. I also really liked the heroine in this book, Devin. Being a new character in the series, I was pleasantly surprised to feel an instant connection to her character. She is the new veterinarian in town, the niece of the old vet, and she brought quite the personality into town with her. She is everything I admire in a good heroine; smart with a sense of humor, kind but with a backbone, and attitude with a touch of sass. I absolutely loved these two together and think you will too!

P.S. This book will give you major cravings for cinnamon rolls! Just a warning.

The mighty fall

Devin is relocating to start a new life after a big heartbreak when she runs into a blast from a her childhood past- her cousins ex-best friend Wes.

Wes knew he knew her but it took some time to place that she was the cousin to his first love (the one that got away) and the only person who he'd ever thought to have a relationship with but never did. Norious serial dater- he only had physical relationships nothing that involved his heart... Til the mighty fall....

I loved this third book in this series. Devin is the perfect blend for this group and evens out Wes's obnoxtious traits. He makes the man show his heart for more then his family and close close friends.

This book also included previous characters which was nice to see how happy they are wit their HEAs. Such a great ending too.

I would still love to see Leighton and Aaron have a baby (a novella of them?). And I want to see Wes as a dad- he's an awesome uncle so I can picture him being an epic dad. .

This story has steamy chemistry, insecurities to overcome, an idiot alpha male and a strong independent women looking to move forward.

So now that Roger, Lauren, Dan, Derek and Tina have made appearances- whose next for this town to fall head over heels?

Wes has been the charming rogue in the previous books, so I was very excited to finally get the chance to see some of what’s going on inside his head. It should come as no surprise, then, that he’s a lot like his brother Tucker in his fears and dreams. Devin was a complete wild-card to me. She’s not quite like any of the heroines we’ve met so far, but there are enough similarities that she fits in with the ‘family’ just fine. This pair was often crazy-making with how hard they fought against being a pair. But it kept me glued to the story to find out what it was going to take to get them there. I’m already looking forward to our next trip back to Billingsley.

This is the first book I've read from Melissa. When I told her I would read it, I was worried it was a book in a series, even though she stated it was a stand alone. I can tell you, after having read it, I was never confused with who was who and thought it was a sweet, amazing love story. Her writing is excellent and I loved how she made me feel like I was right there with them. Wes... mmm, he is my type of man. Rugged and sexy on the outside, sweet on the inside. I really enjoyed his and Devin's banter, I had a smile on my face reading their scenes. I definitely recommend adding this book to your library!! 5-star read!!

It is finally Wes's turn and I really enjoyed finally getting to know him better as well as getting to know Devin although I did feel sorry for her as there was the cloud of her cousin hanging over her, but that also made it more intriguing with what would happen between her and Wes. There are plenty of ups and downs as well as frustrating times mainly with Wes but Devin could test you at times too which I loved as you connected with the characters so much more. This was a fantastic addition to the series and was great to also catch up with everyone from the other books in the series!

Just as captivating as the rest, this book hits the spot. If you didn’t already fall for Wes Monroe in the first two Billingsley books, you will in this one. He’s a steamy, dreamy cowboy I can’t get enough of with a witty sense of humor to top it off. The author not only draws you into the characters but this small town life. Can I move there?!?!?! I enjoyed every minute of it and the continued stories of the characters from her previous books I grew to love too. You won’t be disappointed!

With each book this series keeps getting better and better. I love how we get to meet each new character and find out what makes them tick. In this one we meet Devin and Wes, two very different people but hearts of gold. He once loved her cousin but after years of denying his true self he finds the perfect match in Devin. She comes home to help her uncle with the family business and finds herself falling for the bachelor who everyone wants. By the time we come to the end of the book true love is found and happiness is what we all strive for. I can't wait to read the next in this series. I give it 5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy.

This is the first series that I am reading/listening to by Melissa Ellen. She has caught my attention. I have throughly enjoyed her books, and this one is my favorite so far. Wes caught my heart in CHASING HANNAH. I really love Wes and Hannah's BFF status. They often make me smile big or laugh out loud. I was excited for Wes's story and I wasn't disappointed. Devin was a perfect match. It's great to continue to see characters from the other books! Looking forward to what's next.

Meg Sylvan and Neill Thorne are excellent narrators. Their performances were emotional and brought the story to life. Excellent narration!

I listened to this one in audio.

I really enjoyed Wes and Devin's story. Although the pair had known each other when they were younger they had lost contact while Devin was away. After a painful break-up, Devin moved back to the small town to help her uncle out at the local surgery.

It was a sweet from com between the pair as they battled their other perceptions and feelings towards one another. A delightfully easy listen.

Melissa Ellen is a fairly new author to me and if the rest of her books are anything like this one then I will be doing a lot of one clicking, this is a fantastic story and it’s about Wes and Devin. Wes won’t do relationships he doesn’t want to be tied down by a woman that’s until he meets Devin. Devin has been badly burnt by relationships in the past so she is very weary of Wes and his intentions because she’s not a one night stand kind of girl. I’m not going to give any spoilers this book is just too good for that, this is such a fantastic contemporary romance and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Wow this series has just got so much better with each new book and has had me going back for more each time. Was such an engaging read and I was so engrossed in this story that before I knew it I had finished reading this book in one sitting. The characters are very likeable and relatable and has you feeling like they were more friends than just characters in a book. Definitely recommend

Giving five stars only because I couldn't give six!

I was one of the readers who fell for Wes in the first two books in this series. Ms. Ellen did not disappoint in telling his story. It was as well layered and satisfying as I could hope. Wes and Devin's story is real and raw, making sense of complicated feelings and tender hearts. It left me sighing and smiling... Well done!

Love this story! Confirmed bachelor, West never lets himself get close to a woman. He leaves her before it can get serious. Until he meets Devin and along the way realizes that he wants more with her....if it's not too late.
