16 year old Tricia Evanston has had several firsts this year. Spitfire won the Kentucky Derby & she was the first female jockey to win! The next day she was still celebrating with her brother, David, & the assistant trainer, Patrick. Spitfire was taking off their baseball caps! Red Holloran joined them, asking about her new car, a red Chrysler LeBaron convertible, won with the Kentucky Derby. What would her mom do? Back at the hotel their parents, Hal & Madge, discussed the newspaper coverage, which pictured Tricia cover with mud from the track. While they ate they discussed what life was like when paddlewheelers were the mode of transportation on the river, but Trisha's mom, Marge, reminded her that she didn't like wearing dresses. Trish's grandparent joined them & she realized her mom got her worrying from her grandmother...neither thought she should race horses! They discussed the possibility of Trish racing in California over the summer, but she had a chemistry class to make up...they'd have to work it out. It was also brought up that Spitfire was to be syndicated & moved to BlueMist Farms as a stud...Trish hadn't realized it was happening so soon. When they broke up, all but the Evanston family left town, but they were leaving for Pimlico, but Hal was going to Vancouver first for a chemotherapy treatment.
Will they win the Triple Crown?
