Gideons not only makes hearing loss easy to understand, but she also crafts an empowering story for any kid who feels different. Harper says, "I’ve never thought there was anything I couldn’t do," and I can't think of a better message for all of us.

Thank you for writing a book that is both entertaining and informative.

This is such a lovely read. That a mother/daughter author duo penned it is especially heartwarming.

"Now Hear This: Harper Soars With Her Magic Ears" is a beautifully illustrated and wonderfully written new children's book about an amazing child born with hearing loss, but even more so about understanding and inclusion. This is the kind of book my kids and I searched for and read what seemed like 1,000 times over when they were learning to read and loved being read to.

If you're raising a child with hearing loss, if you were one, if you know and love one, or you'd like to teach your kids who can hear about what it's like for kids who can't—you'll appreciate Harper's story, told in her own voice at 12 years-old. This book would be a great addition to your family bookshelf, classrooms and school libraries, doctor's offices, counselors coffee tables, etc.

My best takeaway was how both Harper and her parents have set the bar high for her, even though her hearing struggles, and it shows in the most inspirational way. Bravo!

When this book arrived my kids all took turns reading it and we had such a great discussion about kids they know with "magic ears" and other differences. This book really spoke to not only how kids can overcome hearing loss, but any kind of challenge, especially when their parents believe in them. It was just so wonderful to start the conversation about how lots of kids have different things they are dealing with, but that we can rise above our challenges and SOAR.

This would be a great addition to any family or school library. We are adding one to our son's classroom library to honor kids in his class with hearing loss and to start the conversation about how we all just want to be accepted.

As an educator, I also love that this was written by a mother and daughter collaborating together. So much fun!

This book is a must-have for elementary school libraries and at-home bookshelves. All kids need this book in their lives -- kids with hearing loss who will see themselves in Harper's story and kids without hearing loss who will get a glimpse into what their friends and classmates have experienced. The best part is that the story is told through Harper's voice, not an adult's. Kids will really feel like she's talking to them -- kid to kid. Her story is heartfelt and honest and witty, making this a wonderful addition to any book collection.

Now Here This is an incredibly inspiring storybook kids of all ages will adore. This book is written with heart and wisdom, yet it still holds the spunky voice of the author.
My eight year old devoured the book. She smiled and laughed multiple times throughout the story. It was clear she found the book to be relatable and captivating. Not only that, but it also shares such a valuable lesson about kindness and inclusions. Harper is an inspiring role model for other kids who may be differntly-abled.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough! Our kids need more stories like this.

I love and support books that promote disability representation, and I was so happy to read this one.

This book is written from the perspective of a young girl born with hearing loss. She discusses getting her hearing aid as a baby, getting her cochlear implant, and how she soars and exceeds expectations every day. I love how this book normalizes the experience of being deaf and hard of hearing. It is informative and inspirational.

Special book that will help many!

This book was written by a young girl with hearing loss and her mom. As a mom of a kid with a disability, I love seeing this message. This book is one of hope, it's one where differences are not pitied or de-emphasized, but instead part of what makes this girl (and those like her) richly diverse and valued. It's also full of wit and humor! This is such a good read for parents, educators and children.

This book is a true gift to the world. Perfect for a bedtime story or the classroom, this is something every child should read!

Harper Gideons, who cowrote the book with her mom, Vallie, is a child born with hearing loss. Together they bring her story to life in an endearing and witty way, giving hope to others to might also have also hearing loss and awareness to those who don't.

Beautifully written and Fabulous Journey

Loved this! I am an author myself. I've had hearing loss my whole life, but it was not noticed by my teachers or parents. How wonderful for her to have a loving support system and family. I think this book would be fabulous in audiologist offices for other children and families who are at their appointments.

This book is a must read for all children, and adults! Gaining understanding for those in our deaf communities is a gift we all need to unwrap, and “Now Hear This” gives us that understanding. And the photos are so beautiful!

This book was such a great add to our collection. We have a 5 year old boy who loves books. He is not hard of hearing and does not have any special needs. That does not matter. This book is about BEING YOU! Being brave and proud. Setting the bar and rising to it! Every kid should read this!

As the mother of a child with hearing loss and a bone anchored hearing aid I cannot love this book more. I'm so glad Harper chose to share her story and just wish I could hear the magic ears song.

I love this new book in my grand children’s library. I find myself reading it to them and Realize Harper is also teaching this adult about her world.
It’s cute funny and educating!
*What a beautiful time to share her story. I think about Harper and her brother Battle often through this global pandemic. We have covered our lips with masks. A great tool in the belt of their life( lip reading) was just taken away.
I hope Harper And her mom Valli continue this journey to share their story, educate us and make us laugh!

Lovely and important book by a real-life teenager with profound hearing loss. My kids appreciated learning about her disability and her as a whole person with the disability as part of it. Great way to support children with hearing loss and help other kids understand their experience.

Great book to read with kids who are hard of hearing, helping them realize that they are not alone, and that they can do anything they put their minds to.

This is an inspirational true life story, written by a mother and daughter team describing their own family's experience with hearing loss and life with cochlear implants. It follows Harper, who is an indomitable deaf girl and her brother, who also has hearing loss, and in my opinion is a must-read for all families with deaf children. Nothing holds back this family, who pursue life with vigour and courage. My own daughter is profoundly deaf, and this book is an important part of her home library and an important tool in her learning journey. Like Harper and her brother, I want my daughter to grow up knowing that, with hard work, courage and commitment, there are no limits to what she can achieve. Please read this book if you have a child with hearing loss in your family!

Now Hear This; Harper Soars With Her Magic Ears by Valli and Harper Gideons is a candid recounting of the young co-author’s challenges with hearing loss. In it, she talks about the assistive devices she has used and the difficulties surrounding them. The book presents facts in a captivating, entertaining way that includes the struggles parents encounter trying to keep track of hearing devices. The narrator recounts her joy at hearing things clearly for the first time and (despite the fact that she had over the years, left them in some interesting places) her eventual acceptance for and even love of her “magic ears.”

This book will be especially helpful to children with hearing loss. It not only shows that they are not alone, but also talks about cochlear implants in a matter-of-fact, non-frightening way that is certain to be comforting both to children facing surgery and their parents. However, the book also has broader appeal. It is written in such a way that all children will enjoy learning about what makes their friends and classmates’ ears special and reminds readers that hearing is only one aspect of a person; we all want many of the same things out of life.
