Wow, this is a beautifully written, enjoyable book, which I'm glad I stumbled upon. It gave me a rare insight into an African sacrificial practice that I did not know existed and the author does well to describe the social conditions and structure in which such a ritual could take place. I had some apprehension when reading the blurb that a book of this subject matter might contain graphic details or be too dark, but that was not the case. The author is careful and sensitive in his handling of a ...more

I found this book quite entertaining and at the same time enlightening on a tradition I hadn't given much thought to. It is a page turner. I couldn't put the book down until I was done. The author keeps his readers gripped in suspense, guessing, waiting and trying to anticipate what would come next. I definitely look forward to reading the next book in the sequel.

In a book that introduces a whole new world that many of us did not know existed, the author makes you understand perfectly the power and pain associated with this ritual. When you finish the book, you realize how much you learned, not only of the ritual at hand, but how the author has opened parts of your imagination you didn’t know you had!  The author’s writing, characters and scene descriptions linger in your mind for days

“A chapter can be as short or as long as you want it—it’s your creation after all. Just make sure the story makes readers not want to put the book down i.e., the suspense continues to heighten until there’s a payoff ... Readers tend to pay attention to chapter length, and get worried if it's a long chapter, if nothing is happening in the chapter.” 0 likes
