I just couldn't get into this one unfortunatelyI'm not sure if it was the concept or the lack of grounded attraction between the two love interests, but this was a miss for me.

I read it but I didn't read it. Does that make sense? I barely remember at least 60% of this historical romance and I kind of just went through the motions of reading it. Nothing in particular stood out and everything was basic. No excitement. No spark. No flare. It was just unrememberable and I will say it's more of a 'it's not you, it's me' type of read. I just didn't care much for it unfortunately but can definitely see this novel appealing to most readers that tend to gravitate towards

I struggled ridiculously so to get into this book! When it was all said and done, I just didnt feel Alex and Emmy had that zing if you will, to make me believe they were meant to be with each other. I was really disappointed, especially after enjoying the first book of the series so much, but three stars for the storyline and other characters.

I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley/St. Martins and this is my honest review.

One of my 2020 reading resolutions was to read less historical romance books because I was tired of reading the same story over and over again. But when I read the premise of this book I couldn't help myself and requested it and now I'm really glad I did.

So this is a enemies to lovers/second chance romance and I enjoyed it immensely. I loved it, I'm not going to lie I skimmed some parts and the plot was a bit

Not perfect but a good entry. Kate Bateman has woven a well written story with interesting and flavorful characters. This book is a good addition to the Bow Street Bachelors series. I quite enjoyed it. The story of To Catch an Earl was good, I really enjoyed the characters of Emmy and Alex almost from the start and I enjoyed how they fought themselves and each other. I liked the rapport between them very much. I just wish the love between them was more obvious. I didn't
Emmy is in love with Alex, Earl of Melton, but her criminal back ground forbids her to come forward with her love. She steals a kiss at a masquerade ball, and during his following years at war he can not forget the mysterious stranger.
Back in London we works as a bow street runner, and his new assignment is to catch the Nightjar, a jewel thief. Who is no other than Emmy, and he is coming dangerously close to the truth while he reluctantly falls in love with her.

This was a very entertaining story, a bit of enemies to friends vibe since he was an officer of the law and she was a thief. The story has an interesting back story which makes her activities seem a bit justified but he is a straight laced officer of the law .... at least is was until he met her which is giving him some serious inner turmoil.

The story has a couple of twists and some funny moments but the real thrust of the story is the struggle between the two of them to try not to like the

I thought this was a fun read....after all, how many heroines do you know that can steal royal jewels from places that are deemed non-penetrable?! She's a jewel thief and he's a Bow Street agent so be prepared for the exciting cat and mouse game they play with each other!

I loved Emmy's character, she's so daring and loving. Even though she has no wish to be a jewel thief like her father was, she's forced into it by a blackmailer. Find the rest of the royal jewels from France or her family will

I really enjoyed To Catch an Earl. This was my first book by Kate Bateman (read: I, unfortunately, didn't have a chance to read the first in the series, -yet-... for which, I am bummed)

The book kind of reminded me of that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Sean Connery movie.... Entrapment, I think (there I go with my 90's showing again)... and kind of a mix of Ocean's 11-ish. Emmy is the daughter of the infamous 'Nightjar', a gentleman thief who is set on stealing and restoring the lost/stolen French

To Catch An Earl is book two in A Bow Street Bachelors series by Kate Bateman. I enjoy Batemans writing. She has a talent for hooking the readers attention and then pulling you along at a frantic and frenzied pace. I was mesmerized and couldnt put the book down. Alex Harland is a magnificent hero - a man torn between his attraction to a thief and doing his job helping Bow Street investigate sensitive cases. I liked the heroine Emmeline Louise dAnvers. But, after a masked dance and a kiss in the moonlight years before, neither one of them has been able to shake the feeling that their perfect match is out there somewhere. Once her true identity is discovered, will their lust turned to love be enough to bridge the gap of them being on opposite sides of the law?

To Catch An Earl is a magnificent historical romance by Kate Bateman. Ms. Bateman has once again amazed me with this spectacular, well-written book. Folks, you're going to love these characters! Emmy is a thief, trained by her father, the Nightjar. After her father's death her family is now being forced to steal the missing gems of the French crown jewels. Alex is a former soldier, now titled and doing work for Bow Street and his new assignment is to find the thief. Alex and Emmy's story is ...more

This is everything a Regency romance should be! I literally couldn't put it down. I want to sincerely thank Goodreads and St. Martin's Press for gifting me with an ARC of To Catch an Earl because it was so, so good. I loved how the book not only made Emmy charming and sassy but also good at something most women featured in Regency-style romances aren't - being a thief. Alex was tenacious and cunning and you could literally feel the romantic tension between him and Emmy. It's a wonderful game of ...more

I kind of struggled getting into this book. I just didn't like Alex or Emmy. I didn't feel the connection with them at all. Emmy has loved Alex for years. She steals a kiss at a masquerade ball and while Alex is off fighting he thinks of that kiss. Okay so I like that part. I don't like that Emmy is a criminal and that Alex is in charge of finding her. I just didn't like the story arc.

It was a short read and it was somewhat enjoyable. I loved the first book in this series so i will absolutely

Alex tries to have self control with his woman, but it doesn't always work out, sod it, he breathed. There was no hesitation this time. No uncertainty. His mouth molded over hers confidently..." Sometimes Alex has to be delecate with his lady's sensibilities, "he found his breeches in a rumpled mess on the floor and shucked into them. You can come out, he said. Im decent. She made what sounded like a snort. Im covered, he amended dryly." I liked this book, I loved Alex. ...more

Very good read! I love Alex Harland, Earl of Melton, hero of the Napoleonic Wars, part owner of the Tricorn Club, Bow Street Runner! He is out to catch the infamous jewel their "Nightjar." The problem is Emma is the daughter of the Nightjar, and after his death, has taken up the cause, for this it what it is, a patriotic cause, to return the Crown Jewels of France back to the House of Bourbon. Just like the first book in the series, this was a romantic and adventurous story. I loved Emmy for her kind heart, her sense of humor and adventurous. Harland of course, has a sense of right and wrong, kind and a reluctant knight in shining armor. I highly recommend this book.

Totally different than most of our authors writings, this was a fabulous book. We have our villain Who happens to also be our heroine. We have our hero who shines throughout the book. Our villain is actually a thief very high-class thief. And to have the jaws that theyre talking about along with a wonderful history they give the jewels. It makes for a totally interesting read. And some of the words and the way they use them. I just cant tell you how interesting this book is youll have to read it ...more

This is the second book of the Bow Street Bachelors, you don't have to read them in order but it makes the stories more interesting as the characters from 'This Earl of Mine' show up again.

Wow! This is a magnificent story from the prologue to the Epilogue.
Emmy Danvers is the daughter of the infamous jewel thief, the Nightjar. However, it isn't about stealing jewels to sell. Her father wanted to retrieve the jewels from the French royals to keep them until the Bourbon's returned to power. She was raised to know the trade and participate.
Alexander Harland was the second son of his family, so he was left free to make his own fortune. Indeed, he did. He spent time fighting Napoleon
