I read it but I didn't read it. Does that make sense? I barely remember at least 60% of this historical romance and I kind of just went through the motions of reading it. Nothing in particular stood out and everything was basic. No excitement. No spark. No flare. It was just unrememberable and I will say it's more of a 'it's not you, it's me' type of read. I just didn't care much for it unfortunately but can definitely see this novel appealing to most readers that tend to gravitate towards
Emmy is in love with Alex, Earl of Melton, but her criminal back ground forbids her to come forward with her love. She steals a kiss at a masquerade ball, and during his following years at war he can not forget the mysterious stranger.
Back in London we works as a bow street runner, and his new assignment is to catch the Nightjar, a jewel thief. Who is no other than Emmy, and he is coming dangerously close to the truth while he reluctantly falls in love with her.

"Don't cry. Just stay yes. Say yes because you love me. As much as I love you."

A notorious jewel thief and a member of the Bow Street Bachelors proves to be an unlikely pair. But, after a masked dance and a kiss in the moonlight years before, neither one of them has been able to shake the feeling that their perfect match is out there somewhere. Once her true identity is discovered, will their lust turned to love be enough to bridge the gap of them being on opposite sides of the law?

Alex tries to have self control with his woman, but it doesn't always work out, “sod it,” he breathed. There was no hesitation this time. No uncertainty. His mouth molded over hers confidently..." Sometimes Alex has to be delecate with his lady's sensibilities, "he found his breeches in a rumpled mess on the floor and shucked into them. “You can come out,” he said. “I’m decent.” She made what sounded like a snort. “I’m covered,” he amended dryly." I liked this book, I loved Alex.

I really enjoyed This Earl of Mine and the characters Kate Bateman created in her Bow Street Bachelors series. Book two, To Catch an Earl, is also a compelling and well written story with fully developed characters. I especially liked Alex’s camaraderie with Seb and Emmy’s bonds with her family. These elements seemed genuine and real.

Emmy is being coerced to take up her father’s goal of collecting the jewels that were stolen from a French crown. His intention was to be patriotic and restore

I do so enjoy reading about these Bow Street Bachelors. There is a lot to love about Alex Harland and especially about Emmy Danvers. They are both professionals and extremely skilled in their own right - and have an intense connection that carries over years of separation after only a single kiss.

Alex is a veteran of the pennisular wars. The younger son of a Duke, he has returned from war with a loss of peripheral vision and a skill set to become a gentleman detective. He runs a club and

To Catch An Earl is a magnificent historical romance by Kate Bateman. Ms. Bateman has once again amazed me with this spectacular, well-written book. Folks, you're going to love these characters! Emmy is a thief, trained by her father, the Nightjar. After her father's death her family is now being forced to steal the missing gems of the French crown jewels. Alex is a former soldier, now titled and doing work for Bow Street and his new assignment is to find the thief. Alex and Emmy's story is ...more

To Catch An Earl is the second standalone in Kate Bateman's Bow Street Bachelors series, and it was an intriguing read.

Emmy Danvers and Alex Harland were such a fun couple. They shared excellent banter and knew just how to challenge each other and push each other's buttons. They were seemingly adversaries, but they sensed such rightness and content in the other person's presence, and I was curious to find out how they would resolve everything between them.

Their chemistry was definitely heated

I received an ARC of "To Catch an Earl" from Netgalley. This is the second book in Kate Bateman's new series of the Bow Street Bachelors. Alex Harland, Earl of Melton, works for the Bow Street Runners and is co-owner of the Tricorn Club. Emmy Danvers is a smart, sweet young lady, and the lady of his dreams, but she is also a thief, who Alex is looking for and who is known as the Nightjar. He learns of her deception and is caught between duty and love. His frustration is viable. Their attraction ...more

Totally different than most of our authors writings, this was a fabulous book. We have our villain Who happens to also be our heroine. We have our hero who shines throughout the book. Our villain is actually a thief very high-class thief. And to have the jaws that they’re talking about along with a wonderful history they give the jewels. It makes for a totally interesting read. And some of the words and the way they use them. I just can’t tell you how interesting this book is you’ll have to read ...more
A fair second book in the series. The writing is great... The romance and heat were on fire. My problem with this is the ethical relationship. She's a thief... He's a Bow Street agent. Because of this, it started very slow for me because I kept trying to figure out how the author would make it work. She did but I was still bothered by it. However I will still look for the next one in this series.

Thank you to the author and publisher for providing my copy via Netgalley.

This novel was an enjoyable read about the next bachelor that works for Bow Street. Alex Harland, Earl of Melton is a second son who received his title from the king for his work. A former soldier, Alex was injured and sees things differently then before. However, he never forgot the woman he danced with the night before he left for war. Emmy Danvers has a big secret that she has kept for years. She can never let Alex know how she feels and keep at a distance or he will figure everything out ...more
