The Mongo Case Files #1

Jamaican Karma: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery

A new series ripped from the pages of the Federal Witch series of books.
Mongo Thalar never really wanted to be an FBI Agent, it was either that or the army. But at the Academy he made lots of friends. The same friends that kept him on the straight and narrow until graduation. Screwing up his government career was his own fault but now that he's back home in Alabama he wants to do better. When law enforcement says no though he sets out on his own, as a private eye. But finding clients is hard and money doesn't grow on trees. Working for his father at the barbecue shack can't be all that bad, can it?

His first case

A good short read. It really doesn't matter if you haven't read the original series hat this is a spin off from. In fact it gives you a good taste of the content that you will find in the full length books. A good taster. A so, so plot but it should get better as the series continues and he gets more cases. I must admit that the culprit is obvious from the start. Lively dialogue and characters that leap off the page with life.
Since xoming back in disgrace from the FBI he's been trying ion get by. Working (for no pay but tips) at his father's diner and sleeping on a cot in his parent's garage. But he has high hopes that he might be able to heart his own business. A PI. He already has the license. The first case is from a friend from school. A family heirloom entrusted into his and his girlfriend's care has gone missing. Missing after a small party. Can he find the item? Which of the friends is guilty?

Cute story

Glad to finally have a Mongo story but So short. He seems to be a good PI, used good deductive reasoning to find his person.

Mee good character background

Mongo - the were-polar bear gets his own series starting with this book. He's a likeable enough guy and has started his own detective business. That leave lots space available for stories in the future.

I like this werebear

I actually liked this book more than the main character series about the FBI Witch. I can't remember why he left the FBI academy for paranormal recruits or how close he was to her small group but here he's funny.

It's a cozy mystery with offbeat characters and it's fun.
