Yasmin's class gets a new PE teacher, Miss Garcia and Miss Garcia announces that today they will be playing football (Soccer - some countries call it soccer and some call it football. The book I received has football in it so I am going by football). Yasmin thinks that football sounds dangerous as she has seen it on TV with her Baba. She tries to get out of it but Miss Garcia says that everyone has to participate. Yasmin ends up being the goal-keeper and after couple of fails, she saves the goal ...more

Yasmin is learning how to play soccer she was scared.
Then she liked soccer.

Very cute with a great message of trying new things!

(Story 1 in You Can Do It, Yasmin)
I got this book for my bilingual and biracial nephews so they can have more Spanish language books. Specifically, I got this for the nephew who sometimes is afraid to try a sport (like soccer/fútbol) because he's worried about failing or not always getting a goal.

While the reasons why my nephew and Yasmin are afraid to play fútbol are different, I really liked how this story showed the coach and other kids encouraging and celebrating Yasmin when she tried something new.
