My wife brought some books home for our great-nephew whom we (read I) look after during the week as he goes to the same school our daughters do. I glanced through them, saw this one and since it was Batman I had to read it too. Who cares if it is for young readers, Batman is Batman, no other rationale for reading it is necessary.
Anyway not a bad book. Bane is a more recent addition to Batman's Rogue's Gallery but he is a good one. If you can break Batman, physically and mentally you have to be good. Batwing is a more recent addition to the cast and one I am not familiar with (having stopped reading comics almost twenty years ago (I got married and money was needed for other things). Still he is an interesting character, one whom I intend to learn more about.
Now as to the contents. The story is quite good. Bane wants to destroy Batman, which is basically what Bane usually wants to do. To defeat Bane calls in some assistance in the form of Batwing. All in all this is a pretty normal comic book situation. At this level of reading a normal and simple situation is what is called for. If you want more sophistication than you shouldn't be reading this stuff anyway. As to the art I like it. It does look a bit different from what I am used to but that might be due to a better quality of paper than is used in comics. The Batwing character was interesting and as I said before one I am going to have to try and learn more about. One other nice touch for this story, at least for me, was the setting, namely the stadium that is home to the Gotham Knights. Not sure if this is the NL or AL team (Gotham has both). Due to the location of the story there were some baseball terms used that pleased this fan of the sport.
In conclusion if you have a young reader who is also a Batman fan then they will likely be pleased with this book. If your young reader isn't a Batman fan then get them this book and hopefully they will become one (Batman isn't just for boys).

My 3.5 year old enjoyed it and asked us to read it to him multiple times. He now likes to pound his hands on the ground like Bane. Cute baseball puns throughout the story. The puzzle at the end misspells venom (venqm).

I thought this story was alright. But the new sidekick bugged me. Who was he? And why not Robin or Nightwing (Dick Grayson)?
