Through the Mirrah: An Adventure Fantasy
Despondent, lonely, and booted from her favorite bar, Aideen has convinced herself that life is fine the way it is, as long as she gets to keep on drinking.
But all that changes when she falls through her living room mirror to find herself trapped in another world: D’Nal Harrim, where monsters called Turkeys and evil men called Trappers scour the land for Refuse—addicts—to kill.
Now Aideen has to find her way home. Her ultimate ally is a man called Sterling, also from her world, but she loses him to an unjust imprisonment. After taking a mortal wound, Aideen makes a deal with Imuhn, a magical being.
But even as her problems begin to feel solved, the truth on the other side of the mirror draws Aideen in deeper. The world is in trouble. She must rescue Sterling and save D’Nal Harrim … no matter the cost.
Aideen must decide what is more important: Life as she knows it, or what lies beyond in the other world. With death before her, can she save what matters?

About the author
K.C. Otenti
1 bookI'm prone to writing dystopian short stories, but my darling is my spec script for The Simpsons, NASCARgot. (It placed fifth in its category in the 77th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition.)
A proud Masshole who finds comfort in ‘80s-‘00s pop culture, I take great pains to incorporate such references into my stories, even when my heroine’s life is at stake.
Through the Mirrah, my debut adventure fantasy novel, is available now on Amazon.

As someone who reads mostly horror, this is far from the kind of thing I would normally read, so it’s hard for me to compare it to something else. I’m not totally ignorant of the genre though and parts of it, especially early on reminded me of the book Un Lun Don by China Mieville due to the protagonist entering a fantasy world. Fortunately for me, parts of this got pretty dark which is right up my alley.
The main character Aideen jumps right off the page throughout this book. Otenti knows her protagonist inside and out and it shows up on the page. The writing draws the reader in and we know Aideen as well as a best friend by the end of her journey. Again, the fantastical world is not in my wheel house but the descriptions of the ever changing world were vivid and imaginative. The writing is well above par and I’d suggest it to anyone who reads this adventure-fantasy genre. This one almost pulled a 4 buts its still a very strong 3/5 from me.
