Very cute for the youngest readers or children still being read to.

Summary:
This book is narrated from the voice of a child. The child and her family are preparing for Thanksgiving and talking about some of their traditions.
Evaluation:
I thought this was a great book for the younger students in grades Pre-k - 1st. It counted down from ten and told a story about this little girl's Thanksgiving with her family. The pictures in the story correlated well with the words, making it easier to comprehend for the younger students. I would read this in my classroom.
Teaching Point:
I liked this book because there are so many things you could teach using it. For me, I would focus on counting the numbers 1-10 and using the book to show how each number has a value. I would also use it to work on rhyming words because the story contained a lot of that, too. Finally, I think it could be used to talk about Thanksgiving and the different traditions the students have at home. I would ask my students to share their traditions for the holiday in a whole class discussion.

Countdown to Thanksgiving by Jodi Huelin left me with mixed feelings. On the one hand, the story was crafted in a way that could be interesting to some readers. It covers a few traditions, some of which could be shared by other readers. However, this felt like a more personal look into her own family on this particular holiday. It didn't feel like it could resonate with a large population, which I would expect from a book of this title and theme.
This made the story slightly disappointing, but it was still an alright read. I don't think I would ever recommend this book or read it to the littles I have worked with. I think there are better stories out there with the same vibe that they would like and be able to connect to more.

if the parade segment didn't have a white kid dressed up in a way that mocks indigenous people it would be a good book. that just. is really cringe and unnecessary...

I absolutely loved this book! It reminded me of my family at Thanksgiving. I was able to personally relate to the book and it made me excited that Thanksgiving is next month. I thought it was very cute and portrayed the family very well. I think this would be a fun book to read to a class because they could reflect on their own traditions and think of new ones to incorporate.

Countdown to Thanksgiving gives children a fun look at getting a Thanksgiving dinner ready for a family day. It also counts backwards from ten to one to give children counting practice with pictures of each number to count along with the story. The illustrations are fun and very appealing to young children. My preschool class enjoys this book at Thanksgiving time.

This was a simple but very cute Thanksgiving book for young readers. My nearly 4 year old granddaughter and I enjoyed reading it together. It starts with the number 10 and has four verses talking about 10 members of the family gathered to give thanks. Then goes down to 1 golden turkey to eat. Then the last page talks about giving thanks for those around you and the things you have.

A cute little countdown book about all the things needed for Thanksgiving. The book starts with 10 and counts all the way down to 1 turkey. Cute little read aloud to get students in the mood for Thanksgiving holiday.

I liked this book a lot. It had a really good representation of counting down that is especially good for small children and early readers. I would suggest it for a great teaching tool with a fun story.

It was pretty good book, I think it is interesting to see the children getting so excited for Thanksgiving and I think this book would get children excited for the holiday.
