Read through this book because I thought it might make a nice gift. I’d need to spend extra time tracking down vintage and current Lego pieces to make these projects. Plus, I’d like to see the completed train, vs individual train cars.

Looking forward to more books by this author!

Plusses: The level of detail which includes manifest list of pieces for each model, step by step assembly instructions that look similar to what I remember from childhood, options for different color ways, and even identifying the model of engine (the other cars all seem to be made up, but follow traditional functions). Looks like you can also power your train using the boxcar model, which contains a hidden power pack that can move the train with a controller.

Minuses include: Difficulty of tracking down the paces for each model, lack of detailed instructions on how to assemble the train and get it moving, whether there’s track available (author says as a kid he had some sort of blue track to go with the controller?), photos of the completed train to see how it all goes together. I’d recommend adding a video link /QR code both to the book and to the website description if you’re selling the book online. Only other issue for me is that the text of the manifest for each model is tiny and challenging for me to read at all. (I’d also really like a caboose model—feel like that’s missing…)
