This is Book 3 of the Zombies! Series. It is highly advised to start with Book 1 as these book are intended to be read in order.
Living in a lighthouse as a child led me early to a love of reading. Despite what you may have been told the life of a lighthouse keeper's son is not all Glamour and Parties. There's a lot of time when there really isn't much to do besides wonder if the fog horn has finally made you deaf or watch your dad pull fishing lures out of different parts of people's bodies. (You'd be amazed!)
Two of my favorite houses growing up!
I read. I read a lot. We had a 'reading caterpillar' around the room at my school where every time you read a book you put your name on your color paper and hung it up. The teacher had to give me two colors because it was looking more like a worm than a caterpillar. I devoured CS Lewis before moving on to Tolkien. Reading has continued to be a big part of my life. I've moved into Alternative Realities by guys like Stirling and my guilty pleasure is Zombie novels. I can't seem to get enough of them!
I like reading about the extremes people will go to to survive. The ones who can rise above the rest and keep their sense of right and wrong. When humanity crumbles around them these flawed heroes stand tall and try to make their way. They go from struggling to pay the phone bill to struggling to keep themselves and others alive. I like to see how this either hardens or breaks them. I think these stories speak at a very primal level. I enjoy the journey greatly as I get to tag along seeing how the survivors manage and how the experience forges them into something more than they were.
I look forward to sharing the journey with you all!
This book continues the journey of the characters who managed to live through books one and two. So not too many of them! Suffice it to say Kyler keeps on trucking and trying to figure out his place in this new world. Kelly and Randy remain committed to finding and reuniting with their girls. The world continues to fall apart even as local despots try to rebuild it in their own images.
Book #3 of the Zombies! series continues to electrify with the nonstop emotional and physical challenges these characters must endure (if they are to survive) in the midst of a Zombie apocalypse with no foreseeable end (or rest for the weary) in sight. Of course, the pre-apocalypse human derelicts who have survived are banning together and loving the advantages a lawless world now allows for their degenerate desires. For example, a preacher (who calls himself a man of the cloth) terrifies me more than the zombies ever could. - Gotta watch out for those wolves in sheep clothing - not so easy when you are also constantly looking over your shoulder for Zombies - who are looking even harder for a yummy human to be their next meal. . .
I am inspired by the lengths survivors will go to find, protect and sacrifice for their loved ones. Eager to find out what happens in book #4!
Narrator Mike Thomas does a fantastic job with all of the characters and a delight listen to!
Wow. Each book has its own set of adventures and characters. The struggles the kids endure is intense. I love the fact that you never know what characters are good or evil. Another great read!
The story continues as Kelly, Randy, and Tony continue their journey to find their children. Eric and the kids also fight to stay alive in a zombie infested world where other humans battle for control. There is sadness, death, but also times of joy. Also enjoy Kyler's story and hope he joins our main characters soon. Looking forward to the next book.
This novel and indeed the entire series is page after page of exciting drama and some heartwarming moments. When disaster strikes, Randy and Kelly must travel thousands of mile to reach their children. They must fight both their fellow man and beasts.
Likable characters that just can't stay out of trouble, deadly trouble. Anyone that likes to read horror/thriller type books should read this Zombie Series. Myself, I'm in a hurry to get book #4!
I really enjoyed this book. A mother and father goes to no end to find their kids. The kids are smart and knows how to survive, from the oldest all the way to the youngest
Outstandingly well written storyline and a nightmare came to an abrupt end in time to start again with every single person who is an enemy looking for you what comes next I cannot wait to start
I highly recommend this series. It has been action and suspense right from the start. I can't put it down and looking forward to more. The characters are all awesome!
In Z! VSE (book 3) Merritt, who is ever a good story teller, finally begins to emerge as a talented writer. You may be wondering why I suffered through the first two in this series to get to this point. The reason - it was fun to watch a good writer emerge and grow and become skilled in his craft. In book 3, he is not fully there but he is leaps and bounds better than when he started. He still needs someone to give him a thesaurus for Christmas/Hanukah/Eid/Samhain/Odin's Day (pick a holiday) so he doesn't keep repeating the same descriptive words over and over - but he is getting better! Proof that the way to become a better writer is to write.
Z! VSE is a good, exciting book with likeable characters and a believable narrative. The story continues from the previous two books with the adventures of several different groups of survivors in different places around the US. They are all just regular people trying to make it in the zombie apocalypse. They all seem to be converging over time which is a cool, long arc, plot element. I listened to the Audible version and Mike Thomas does an excellent job with the narration. His voice and accents fit the material well. Now, on to book 4!
I tore through this book. It’s a fast paced and completely engaging account of different zombie apocalypse survivors making their way through the new world. The zombie apocalypse genre is generally pretty formulaic...random survivors hiding from zombies discover that they should also be hiding from other survivors who happen to be “brotherhood”. This series is similar in that regard, but the author manages to be original enough that it still feels fresh and interesting.
Or maybe I just really like zombie stories. I don’t know, but I’m looking forward to the next several volumes.
Plain and simple to how people will probably respond in real life situations if the world goes to help in a hand basket. No military training is required like Randy and Kelly proved to get back to their daughters.
A bit confusing on whose story I was reading as it moved forward between the characters and I started noticing a couple of spelling mistakes. I was half way through this book thinking it was dragging on a bit and before I knew it, I was at the end! Overall a good read.
It just gets better each book I read as I have said I'm not usually into zombies but the characters and determination of each decent human beings left fighting for their survival is a credit to them so I'm looking forward to the next book definitely recommend
Loved it. I keep going thru all these books within a day and then instantly order the next one. I should of just saved myself money and ordered the set lol
Really not much to add to my reviews of the previous books: this series kicks some serious ass! It never slows down, never relents, and I cannot read them fast enough!
