Ruby Island is a Romantic Comedy of fantastic proportions. If you like sweet romance with a touch of fantasy, then you’ll love Anita Renaghan’s fun saga.
Anita Renaghan is the author of six books including literary fiction and a young adult trilogy. She loves a good character study and has been many characters herself including: an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force, a college graduate, a second degree blackbelt, lost, a waitress and bartender, a wife and mother, an account executive, found, and a constantly inventive singer-songwriter. Walter Mitty has nothing on Anita.
Growing up in the Chicago suburbs with her five siblings was a loud and adventurous time, and Anita was often found at the library reading her new favorite or writing a poem or short story. Her high school English teacher presented the challenge of writing a novel, and that opened a door that would never close. Anita has written many novels in the past thirty years and even has a screen play hiding in storage, and she loves a good character study.
Anita can often be found zoning-out in a daydream in the Chicago suburbs where she lives with her husband and daughter. In the dark hours of the night, while her family sleeps, Anita can be caught perched in front of her laptop writing her next adventure.
I was given a copy to read and review. I am an avid romance reader, and I thought I had seen most storylines in some form or other. This is pretty unique. The characters are all very likeable. I not only enjoyed it but I have added it to my list to purchase paperbacks for my collection since I know I will be rereading this again.
Amy Reynolds is a photographer assigned to a story with longtime crush (but d-bag) Matt Cole, journeying to Ruby Island (privately owned by movie star Bill Ruby). En route, they fly through the Bermuda Triangle. There is a flash of light and suddenly three boys referring to them and Mom and Dad appear in the back seat.
I was excited about this one - the tropical cover and every 3rd grader's obsession with the Bermuda Triangle lol. However, I didn't love it. The story was hard to follow in the beginning, some of the characters weren't super likeable, and it came together rather sloppily for me.
However, I do appreciate the giveaway gift and thank the publisher
How does a trip to a beautiful and private island in the Bermuda Triangle become a nightmare for a journalist and photographer who traveled there to write an exclusive magazine story? Ruby Island is an engaging account of the plight of these coworkers in an area of the world that is known for its strange occurrences. A love triangle develops and three mysterious children are caught in the middle. Anita Renaghan has created an intriguing and unusual novel of fascinating characters with an unusual past and questionable future. Thank you, Goodreads for this unforgettable novel!
I absolutely loved this book! I think any of us that are of a certain age heard tons of stories about the Bermuda Triangle and I really enjoyed the story that Anita created by bringing in that element. It was a great feel-good book that kept me reading to find out what would happen next.
Thank you so much for the Kindle copy I won in a Goodreads giveaway.
The storyline of Ruby Island had the potential to be great, with its unusual fantasy plot twist. However, the fantasy element was completely undeveloped and sidelined to a typical romance plot for a drug store paperback. Even that is poorly developed, with plot holes you could drive a truck through. Very disappointing.
