John Hennessy is one of my favourite authors. I don't like thrillers so much, but when it is a book written by a writer you enjoy, I thought why not give one more story a go?!!!! Well, it's a very interesting book and clever concept about a famous author who likes the quiet life but as the story develops and we see fiction clashing with fact, I realised that Ellis - that's the author in this book may be only so talented......was he given a leg up the charts and then tried to escape to an even qu ...more

Ellis Goodrich is an author at the top of his game, but that success comes at a price. In this powerful thriller, the lines between fact and fiction blur as he finds himself living scenes from his books.

What I enjoyed most about this book is it solves an old problem. Most books have a few “golden pieces” to them, which outshine the rest. The ones you’ll find when you search for quotes. By dipping in and out of specific scenes from a variety of books written by the main character, John gives you

In his research for the background setting Ellis visits Prague, a city he feels would suit the spy narrative. As the story progresses we see Ellis and Gauntlett in similar settings, their factual and fictional beings intertwine. The spy story-line itself is gripping and keeps the reader in its grasp, but then Ellis's personal life becomes a key factor. T ...more

EDITORIAL REVIEW posted by a reviewer:

This is a story about a fictional writer Ellis Goodrich, who is without making an overstatement portrayed as the most successful writer of all time, at least commercially speaking. It looks as if John Hennessy were fantasizing about his own future success and putting his own dreams and aspirations into his fictional author inorder to make them somehow materialize through him. Ellis is one of the richest men on the planet and his fans even kill in his name. T
