Recommends it for: younger historical fiction lovers
I greatly enjoyed this book, when I read it, which was a long time ago. The story is heartbreaking, and any younger historical fiction lover would love it! We follow the main character, Chantrea Conway, a half-American half-Cambodian girl living in Phnom Penh when the Khmer Rouge evacuate the city. She is marched to a work camp, from which she finally escapes, and tries desperately to make it out of Cambodia alive, along with her grandparents.
