Parts of this story were excellent and some of it really dragged....a lot.

The culmination of the story was interesting and nicely buttoned things up but it was also but very far-fetched.

I was entertained by this book but didn't feel the storyline lived up to its potential.

I am, however, very grateful to have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for this honest review!

Readers! YOU CAN'T CATCH ME will be my 10th novel in 10 years, which is so crazy to think about I need to put that aside. Anywho! I'm so excited for you to meet Jessica Williams, and ... Jessica Williams, and Jessica, you guessed it, Williams! That's right, there's a lot of Jessicas in this book! Several years ago, a friend of mine kept getting stopped at the border. She has a common name, and there was an APB out for someone with a similar name and the same birthday. Over time, we realized that ...more

Jessica Williams is a journalist who makes a career bombing mistake when she plagiarises an article which results in losing her job though she manages to negotiate a payoff. Whilst waiting for a flight to Mexico for a holiday she meets another Jessica Williams. What a coincidence!!?? Except it’s not. Jessica Two is a hustler and she manages to elicit sufficient information from Jessica One to steal all her settlement money. Thus starts the twistiest of twisty tales that leaves you dizzy as your ...more

Catherine McKenzie is at the top of her game when a former cult member finds herself mixed up in a dangerous, high-stakes case of identity theft. Addictive and fast-paced, YOU CAN’T CATCH ME proves that sometimes revenge is sweet. McKenzie best book yet!

To catch a swindler you need to play the game! But that game could be deadly!
Deception is the name of the game. A con artists dream. Victim's nightmares.

Ex journalist Jessica Williams seems unable to catch a break. She decides a trip to Mexico is a dream and heads off for Rest and Relaxation.
Upon boarding she meets Jessica 2 and they strike up a conversation to find more similarities.

If there was another person with your name and birthday... wouldn't it be so easy to take their money?

That's the premise this books operates on. It sounded amazing and I expected You Can't Catch Me to fully deliver the twists and turns. I read Catherine McKenzie's previous novel, I'll Never Tell, and really enjoyed it. I'm so sad that this didn't hit the same mark for me.

Sometimes a thriller that requires one to suspend a fair bit of disbelief can be fun. In this case, I found it a bit

This is an excellent, mostly fast-paced book about a woman named Jessica Williams, who years after escaping a cult, ends up meeting another Jessica Williams in the airport. Jessica 2 ends up stealing the OG Jessica’s identity and money. Jessica ends up finding out this has happened to other women named Jessica Williams, and decides to contact them and get a group together to find the bad Jessica and get their money back.

I was highly entertained throughout this novel, and Catherine McKenzie (who

Another FANTASTIC 5 -star thriller from Catherine McKenzie! This one packs a punch and I read it in one sitting. Un-put-down-able and addicting with twists that keep you guessing. Cults, identity theft and fascinating characters oh my! I've read all of McKenzie's books and this one is the best yet.

Really enjoyed this un-put-downable thriller from Catherine McKenzie, whom I've never had the pleasure of reading before but definitely will now! I finished this in a day and would recommend it to anybody who loves a well-paced, innovative crime and/or thriller tale.

You Can't Catch Me by Catherine McKenzie delivers a PUNCH! I never saw that coming! Now you have to read the book to understand my reaction to this suspense thriller. This is an intriguing story that has some unexpected twists. Jessica Williams had grown up in a cult commune and was very proud of the life she had made for herself. But now Jessica is on her way to Mexico for a much-needed vacation to try and recover from the humiliation of being fired from her job. While in the airport bar she ...more

When I first started reading this book I wasn't exactly sure what to expect because I had never read a book about cults or the type of living environment of a cult. Of course, I had watched many TV shows alluding to people living in cults and sometime in the news cults were mentioned but reading this book really helped open my eyes to the plight of the children in these cults. From start to finish this book had me in its grasp because I couldn't wait to find out whether or not Jessica was going ...more

Catherine McKenzie did it again! Definitely a 5+ star read. I couldn't put this down, and the ending?!?! What? I am tempted to re-read this right away to see if I missed any clues. I think this may be her best book yet....even though I say that about all of her books. They just keep getting better and better.

McKenzie sure does know how to write a compelling mystery, and I devoured her latest in 2 days. Jessica Williams was liberated from a cult when she was 18 years old and had to learn to adapt to life in the “real world.” More than a decade later, she’s established herself as an investigative journalist, but was accused of plagiarism and fired. To add insult to injury, a woman she meets in an airport bar, also named Jessica Williams, steals her identity and drains her bank accounts. Soon, Jessica ...more

Holy wow. Talk about an edge of your seat wild ride into trying to see who is who and what is the real plan. The twists throughout and the major twist at the end will leave you stunned. This is a book that you will not be able to put down so make sure that you make the time and skip all your chores and errands for this!

Jessica is making an escape to Mexico after her career takes a turn for the worse. On her way there she meets another Jessica with the same name and birthday and from there things

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an ARC of You Can't Catch Me.

This story grabbed me from the beginning. I loved the ease of the characters conversations. Catherine McKenzie left me guessing what was coming next and how it was all going to play out. I would've liked a little more at the end about how everyone ended up.

I appreciate NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing giving me the chance to review this title before it debuts in June.

Finally, a new and different plot for a domestic thriller. Jessica, an investigative journalist and cult survivor, is fired for plagiarism. To try and put that out of her mind and give herself a break, she takes a trip to Mexico. At the airport she runs into another woman with the same name and birthday who she later dubs Jessica Two. They play a game about what else they have in

For once, I didn't see the ending of this one coming. I've read several of this author's work (one of her other novels was my first Goodreads win!) and I actually think this may be one of her best. It was intriguing, quick paced, and had an original storyline. The ending twist was especially clever.

Technical issue: this may be fixed in the final copy, however, due to the fact that chapters switch from past to present frequently, I would've liked them marked a little clearer; in this version, it
I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review. I wasn't sure what to expect after her last book which I didn't enjoy as much as I wanted to; however this book was a WOW from start to finish. The writing is so well done, capturing "Jessica One"'s voice. As it progresses, there's a past timeline and a current one but they are connected, if you pay attention to the wording and certain details. Up until the last twist, which I saw coming I was ...more

4 stars. Fast paced and highly gripping, You Can't Catch Me was a very enjoyable read. The characters were all interesting and well developed and my favourite thing about the book was that I could never have guessed the twists and turns! I love Catherine McKenzie's books, and if you haven't read them, I recommend you start. This book was no exception, and one of the things I most love about her books is that she thinks outside the box. Many popular authors recycle the same plot repeatedly, or they fall into the "series" trap. This is such a unique premise about a grifter who is stealing identities in a manner that's very personal. I thought I had this figured out, still enjoying the story, and the end, I was thrown a ...more
