Kally was stacking books on a shelf for next months book club selections in a cozy corner of the shop dedicated to selling novelty items when a male voice greeted her.
Turning, she came face to chest with the police officer from the day before. The very one who for some inexplicable reason was the

Effie will tell you I don't read romance. I have been making an exception for authors I have gotten to know. This was a tough call for me. I loved her Gift Saga. I went into this read thinking it was going to be the same type of romance novel. I felt it didn't have the depth her other books had. Then I learned that there are different types of romance novels. Some just have a lighter feel and this one is all that. I felt I didn't get to know the characters as well as I wanted. Then I realized ...more

This book was a very pleasant and satisfying read, and a slight departure from her first 3 books in "The Gift" series. Continuing with a theme she knows well, Ms. Kammenou has crafted a classic love story, centered around a small town business, the Coffee Klatch. Kally Anadarakis, the owner, a dark haired Greek beauty, is filling her days at her business, having lost her first love, and in no hurry to jump into the deep end again. Through a series of small events, she meets a new guy, and falls ...more

4 star review of  Love is What You Bake Of It (Meraki Series #1) by Effie Kammenou

Effie Kammenou is a new author to me and I have no idea why that is. Love is What You Bake Of It was an entertaining read that had me invested from the first to the last chapter.

I found Kally Anadarakis and Max Vardaxis likeable and easy to relate too. The secondary characters, including a grandmother who had me in stitches at times were just as easy to relate too.

Kally has been badly burnt in the past and is not

Kally Anadarakis was a successful and strong business women. She spins her magic daily pouring her love into her creation she baked for her customers at The Coffee Klatch. Kally was content in her life baking her creations running her business, she had no interest in love, with her heart being broken earlier she closed her heart. But with two crazy best friend who work with her & a big Greek Family always lovingly meddling pushing her towards love. One day Max Vardaxis walked into her shop ...more

Overall love the story. Love Athena and Max. Love the concept of love and it being forever and everlasting. The faith of love in Kallys grandmother was beautiful and heartwarming. Max and his love for his daughter was precious. How all he wanted was his daughter happy and healthy was heartwarming. Max and his love for Kally and all he went through to show her he loved her but didnt want to push his love on her was beautiful and sweet. The man was swoonwrothy.

Love Is What You Bake Of It is the first book in a wonderful new series, Meraki, by Effie Kammenou. I really loved Ms. Kammenous Gift Saga, so it was no question that I was going to read this book. I happily one-clicked a copy for myself and jumped right in. It is different from the Gift Saga stories- in a great way- still the same well written and polished product, and with Greek characters that just jumped off the pages- but with a more light-hearted, humorous and fun story.

Love is What You Bake of It is a cute read about a baker and a police officer. Both main characters come together with quite a bit of baggage, however, they are able to find love despite their respective pasts.

Kally Andarakis owns and operates her own cafe, The Coffee Klatch. It is a charming eatery and her baked goods are amazing. Yummy cupcakes, freshly ground coffee, and family recipes handed down by her Greek ancestors are a huge hit with the customers. Kally is quite content with

I loved reading the story Love is What You Bake of it (The Meraki Series Book 1) by Effie Kammenou. It is a story that pulled me in and didnt let me go until the final page. I loved reading about the characters of Kally Andarakis and Max Vardaxis. Kally loves to bake and it is shown by the way she runs her café, The Coffee Klatch. She is independent, strong, and caring. A lovely romantic novel featuring Kally Andarakis a strong independent women who is a passionate baker, and whos first love is whipping up sweet treats in her cafe, The Coffee Klatch. Kally has sadly been left broken hearted and untrusting from a previous relationship so when the handsome and charming Max Vardaxis walks into her cafe she is reluctant to open herself up to heartbreak again but she can not deny her attraction to Max. However things are different for Kally eight years since her ...more

This is the story of Kally and Max. Both Kally and Max have pasts that keep them from opening themselves up and allowing love to come into their lives. Instead, they both protect their hearts and keep some people at a distance in order to avoid heartbreak. But sometimes the past isn't as it seemed.
Kally owns her own bakery and puts her heart into her sweets instead of into finding someone to marry (which would make her traditional Greek family happy). Max has recently returned home to sort out

I REALLY enjoyed this story! Its a story of romance between Max and Kally, but has a multi-generational layering of stories by including the story of her grandparents. This book shares some greek culture and stresses the importance of family, making Kallys grandparents storyline fit right in. The family recipes inserted throughout the story continue the romantical- familial feel.
The story line was definitely interesting and the characters were fun and easily likable. The author gave us the

I have read quite a few books by this author now and what always has me coming back to her is her beautifully detailed writing. Her stories have such a lovely flow to them that are a real pleasure to read. I didnt even bother reading the blurb when I decided to read this book; the title caught my eye straight away.

I really enjoyed reading Love Is What You Bale Of It. The characters made it easy to read and love this book.
Kally is the owner of The Coffee Klatch. She is well liked in the community. Everyone clocks to her coffee shop for coffee, delicious drinks or just to try what she bakes special that day.
Just like everyone else, Kally has had her heart broken and is very guarded.
When Max walks into her coffee shop to collect something, the two of them immediately are drawn to each other.

Yep. Here I am reviewing a book by a new-to-me author, Effie Kammenou. And as it has been more often than not recently, I am so glad I took a chance!

Kally has been burned by love and by trusting the wrong man in the past. Its jaded her views on relationships and love. But shes happy and content with the life shes built. Until Max. But when tragedy strikes and secrets come to light, will she give up on love altogether or open her heart to so much more?

I loved the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Effie Kammenou is a new to me author, and I'm delighted that I finally met her writing style in Love is What You Bake of It. Kally & Max have some past baggage, which has given them both some trust issues when it comes to the relationship department, until fate steps up in the guise of a hilarious meddling grandmother and & super cute tiny human named Athena, and they have their work cut out for them. Obviously, Kally & Max have steep walls that will take real work to get over, and ...more

Love is What You Bake of It by Effie Kammenou was my first book by this author. We all know how families can meddle in relationships but these Greek families take it to the next level. Kally Andarakis and Max Vardaxis both have trust issues due to past relationships. Both fight their feeling when these two keep running onto each other. But its Maxs daughter that slowly brings them together. Can this relationship work if someone is hiding something?

Love is what you bake of it (The Meraki Series Book 1) by Effie Kammemou. Kally has a big Greek family, who like a lot of big families also have a lot of opinions. Kally doesnt want a relationship because she was burnt in the past. She now owns her own cafe and loves it. She thinks she doesnt need or want any man. This is not my first book by this author but it is my favorite. It is a sweet second chance romance that is written with lots of heart and soul. The characters are well developed and made the story feel realistic. I had no problem connecting with them and could easily see them as friends. Kally has loved and lost, now she feels she is unworthy of love until he walks into her life. Content with her business, she wonders about Max and if he is worth it all? I really enjoyed this book a lot. Max's little girl was so adorable. She's a scene stealer for sure! I really loved the characters in this one. I loved Kally's family a lot. Their history of love was so intriguing and I still have some questions. Some unexpected surprises that made me one happy reader. It's an was book to get lost in. While reading this delightful book I felt transported back to Long Island and Greece. The story of Kally and her family was moving and familiar to me. I love how this story flows but at the same time keeps you guessing . I can not wait to read the rest of this series to find out how the lives of the younger generation and the older Greek generation come together to teach each other lessons only family can teach. This is a new to me, author, I will definitely read again. First off, she crafts very thorough and well-developed stories and characters. Secondly, she gives us hints and teases about future stories for the future and also in the past, people we've become connected to and want to know more about. It's honestly like three stories in one and somehow she makes all of them compelling and not overdrawn.

I also enjoyed the Greek foodie talk coupled with delicious recipes to try - it's a feast for all

This was a cute story by Effie Kammenou. Her plot line is great and she paints a picture with her descriptive details. Her characters are sound and complex. I feel like I am right there with Kally. It is funny to read about the character family members and how they are meddlers. Kally is a successful woman. Then Max comes into her bakery. Her life is a little more difficult now that Max has come into her bakery. I recommend you read this story to find out about Kallys decision. ...more

I was gifted a copy for an honest review.

These two together were very sweet. They both had demons but felt a draw to each other. Kally was one stubborn womans day at times you wanted to give her a shake!

I really enjoyed the chapters from the past from the other characters, it gave you a chance to see what they had gone through. I do wish Kelly had found her grandfather but maybe we will get to see that in a future book.
