Something lurks in the shadows unseen in this Grimm inspired urban fairytale you won't be able to put down. Trouble has always accompanied the ethereally beautiful Hollow sisters. It’s a strangeness that can be traced all the way back to their childhood and the start of one of the most famous unsolved mysteries of the past decade. One fateful New Years evening, the girls disappeared right from under the watchful eyes of their parents and were not found until over a month later, huddled
what a bizarre little book. very ‘wayward children’ meets ‘the only good indians’ with a whole lot of riverdale season 3.

and my rating/review reflects that i misread the synopsis. i totally thought this was a realistic mystery/thriller story. im not a fan of magical realism and, had i known that was the backbone of this book, i probably would have given it a pass.

that being said, i cant deny that this is extremely well-written. for being such a strange, spooky story, the writing is actually qu

At least hundred times I asked myself after finishing the last line of this brain cells destroyer, mind hacker, nail biter, extremely shocker, jaw dropper novel; What the freaking heck I just read?

This is more than creepy, dark, disturbing, eerie! Those words are not enough to describe the senses you feel when you have one of the craziest reading experience! It’s bleak, soul crushingly dark and sharply twisty, extremely complex earns your 100 decibel screams!

"I am the thing in the dark.”

Wow. This book definitely brings the creepy, unsettling vibes, and after a long night with some very weird dreams, I'd say I'm still recovering.

House of Hollow is a dark, atmospheric mystery/horror novel about three sisters who disappear when they are young, return a month later without any explanation, and are never the same. This story is plot driven, so I never felt fully connected to the characters, but I think that's intentional. These sisters are as much a myst

Gothic and mysterious.

"Like I could open any drawer or door or cupboard and there find my sister's bare-naked soul, neatly folded."

This one is so young adult dramatic and easy to read. A story about three most "perfect beautiful" teenage sisters who everyone else believed to be witches (you know what's it like with gossips). Something bad happened to them when they were kids and their dad. A mysterious man like being seems to follow them and it is well related to what happened to them. And we ha

“Dark, dangerous things happened around the Hollow sisters.”

Brimming with beauty and danger House of Hollow is a spellbinding modern fairy tale. Written in a tantalising prose that seems to echo traditional fairy tales House of Hollow presents its readers with a beguiling tale about sisters and monsters.

“We were taken. We came back. None of us knew what happened, and none of us ever would. We were the miracle that parents of all missing children dreamed o

House of Hollow is a dark and twisted fairy tale that is impossible to put down. The Hollow sisters went missing for a month and then showed up with no recollection of what happened. Their hair and eyes changed causing their father to be suspicious, but everyone else is glad to have them returned safely. Ten years later, Grey is missing and left clues to help Iris and Vivi find her. Sutherland grabbed my attention from the very beginning and packed the book with suspense leaving me trying to fig ...more

Well this was exceptionally well written and utterly gripping!

There were so many moments where I was completely creeped out during this dark fairy tale horror. During 'the ant' scene the hairs on my arm were literally standing on end. The characters also made for compelling reading and the dynamics between the sisters were intense and engaging. The whole story was so

”Everybody keeps secrets, Little Hollow. Perhaps your big sister has been keeping more secrets from you than you realize.”

First and foremost I want to say that this book would make a BEAUTIFUL movie. It’s a little gory and sad, but it also has such beautiful imagery and sense of family that would translate well into a creepy magical realism type film. So essentially this is a story of three young sisters who went missing as children for a month, and by some miracle returned right to the very spo

I read it, I loved it, I blurbed it: Stepping nimbly among the liminal spaces and eerie real-world haunts of our heroine’s missing sister, this haunting modern fairy tale will wrap you up like a glittering fog, before it goes for your throat.

Seriously though this book is my exact poison. <3

I've rewritten the beginning to this review so many times, mainly with things like "I-" and "WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW AMAZING [...]" and "THE COVER- WHA-" so I'm just gonna leave it at that.

When the Hollow sisters were little, they mysteriously disappeared only to reappear a month later. They came back with strange scars and abilities. Iris Hollow has been trying to let go of her past, but when her oldest sister, Grey Hollow, disappears once again, she has to face the past she's been desperate

A big old wet kiss of a thank you to Ashley at Penguin who graciously read my arc request and promptly sent over the NetGalley widget.

Gorgeously written and creepy. This book has a cover to match the story and is seriously one of the best books I have read in 2020. I expected a semi-creeptastic story about sisterhood, but I was given a fairy tale horror masterpiece that read like a cult film.

This was.......

Something else. A beautifully grotesque fairytale. Creepy as all hell. I had an idea of what the big reveal would be, but I honestly had no clue how i'd end up there & what would come after. No short of horrifying, yet so intriguing and haunting in the best possible way. The perfect dark fairytale. I loved how all of the grotesquery was veiled in beauty & loveliness, both the literal & the metaphorical imagery throughout.

Speaking of which, the writing was

This book just absolutely SLAYED ME. Dead. Done. Deceased. It’s just so BLOODY brilliant and sickening and everything I have ever wanted from a book. It’s dark and gritty and sinister and twisted and not to mention ALL THE DEAD THINGS. Two paragraphs in and I was already texting a friend that I knew it was a winner, that’s how quickly it had me hooked and under its delicious spell. Just EVERYTHING about it is perfection: the setting, the characters, the magic, the story, EVERYTHING I TELL YOU. I ...more

Thank you to Penguin Australia for providing me with a copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review!

Iris and her two sisters, Vivi and Grey, went missing when she was 7 years old. They were gone for a month, then turned up again, in the same spot, naked, shaken, but alive. It’s their father who first noticed they’ve changed. Their hair turns white from dark, Iris’s baby teeth she lost are back and their eyes are not the same as they once were. The sisters also notice they have uncanny abi

Wow. I read this in 2 sittings. Thank you to Penguin Teen for the eARC!

First of all, for those of you who don’t read my full reviews in their entirety (I know you exist and I’m looking at you) know this: I don’t usually read thrillers. And by not usually, I mean not ever. But I requested this ARC after seeing tons of bookstagrammers talking about it and wow am I glad I did. I am not a thriller person but I loved this one. I just wanted to say, don’t rule this one out because of the genre if you

The other week I got this. The mesmerizing cover stares at me begging to be read. Yes, yes, I'll get onto it, first I have to rant about goodread's marketing campaign for House of Hollow. And the sad story of how I fell for all their tricks...

This year goodreads changed their advertising from ads provided by google - those weird ads for "you must know this hack" or whatever you just searched for. Now its ads are for a book. My aim on life is to ignore these books on principle, also they're not w

House Of Hollow is a modern take on Urban Fairytale but if you think it is all about "and they lived happily ever after" you are gravely mistaken, I mean the cover looks sketchy for this notion but still how stunning is the cover? House of Hollow

Okay, I was not expecting much out of this book. It is a newer release and haven’t seen many reviews on it. I went into this book with no knowledge about it, and I am glad I did. This book is so beautiful, the cover is not misleading. Judging a book by its cover does work, sue me. I am obsessed with the cover, fight me.

Iris Hollow and her two older sisters are unquestionably strange. Ever since they disappeared on a suburban street in Scotland as children only to return a month a later with no memory of what happened to them, odd, eerie occurrences seem to follow in their wake. And they’re changing. First, their dark hair turned white. Then, their blue eyes slowly turned black. They have insatiable appetites yet never gain weight. Thank you for the ARC courtesy of penguin teen, all opinions are my own.

3.8 ⭐️ overall i enjoyed this book it was definitely something out of the comfort zone and not something i necessarily go for. long story short this book follows Iris Hollow, youngest of 2 older sisters. they are very close with one another but they are also very strange due to their shared trauma. When one of the sisters, Grey, goes missing. Iris and Vivi try to figure out that mystery which leads to a sequence
This was everything I wanted it to be. Everything! Dark, twisted and a dash of glorious spine chill that I really did not expect. The Hollow sisters disappeared as little girls. When they mysteriously showed back up a month later they changed and not only physically. Their dark hair and blue eyes are now haunting white and eerie black and identical scars lay at their chests.

The bond of the sisters was absolutely everything to me. I loved the unique differences of each girl and how they molded to
Okay, firstly: THE COVER!? This has to be in the god tier of book covers, it is so beautiful.

When horror meets fairy-tale in a gruesome retelling how can I not be hooked? From the very first page I was captivated, unable to stop reading or thinking about the book till the very end. And considering that this is a standalone, you're still able to see character growth in many of the characters in this book.

A lot of parts hit closed to home, my brain is just too jumbled to list them. But what I wil
