This resource will be a gem for me long after its release date. My wife and I have already incorporated some of the simple steps to take our soul back in this busy season. Easy to read as always with Eldredge, and highly recommended. Stimulating and inspiring, but kind and benevolent with an understanding of what we are faced with in this time of history. ...more

One of his best yet and clearly needed for our souls to learn how to breathe again in this technologically overindulgent world. I give this book my highest rating. Easy to read with lots of great suggestions on how to get our lives back.

Such a beautiful read! I cannot emphasize enough how helpful and restful this was for me. A much needed, practical guide to listening to and caring for your soul in an age where we're expected to go through daily tasks and interactions with little to no transition or processing time. Please do your soul a kindness and pick up this book.

What a poignant and necessary read for our time! I didn't know what to expect when I picked this one up, but I've loved everything John Eldredge has written, so I didn't even note what it was about. This is such a needed read. The author has looked at the busy, busy - rush, rush world that we live in - where we're always required to be available for our jobs, where social media brings out the worst in us, and where the tragedies that happen every day invade our world at the moment they happen ...more

A book filled with practical advice on surviving in the fast paced world we all find ourselves in today. I like that the practices are very accessible - this isnt go live in a cave - it recognizes that we all live in this world and have to continue to function, so balance is essential. ...more

I was lucky enough to see an early copy of this book a coupe of months back and loved it. I admit Im a steady fan of the author but this is one of his best.
Specifically the topic here, an active defense against a world so determined to fragment my mind and soul at every opportunity, is especially timely. My wife and I started experimenting with the practices right away and were shocked to discover just how difficult it can be to find 1 minute of silence and focus, to say nothing of 30. Once I

Dont let the size of "Get Your Life Back" by John Eldredge fool you. It may seem small compared to other religious or Christian Living books, but ts much more impacting than you might think.

And don't let the subject matter fool you either. You might look at this and think, I don't need to read a book to know that I should turn off my phone. If you're thinking of passing this one by because you think the subject is overdone or obvious, please think again. You NEED this book, in ways you didn't

I read Get Your Life Back as soon as I could get my hands on it. The intro is called Rescue and indeed this book is truly a rescue. It is extremely practical carving out masterful ways to live in this technology-driven world mindful of what our souls truly need. I find myself referring back to its wisdom often, being kind to myself in validation of my NEED for drinking in beauty, simply unplugging, allowing for transitions and caring for the neglected places in my soul. The chapter on benevolent ...more

I've read a lot of books on rest, technology, limitations, and incorporating practices for the healing of the soul. This may be the best I've read. John does such a great job of weaving together timeless Christian wisdom, story telling, and application. I loved his transparency in the book, as well.

If you're not a fan of John Eldredge, that's okay. One need not agree with Eldredge 100% in order to benefit from this book. There's something for everyone here. We all know that we live in a world

John took us to a peaceful place away from the hectic and crazy world we live in with cell phones that demand our attention and TVs that bring the world and all that is happening even thousands of miles away right to our doorstep instantly. He reminded us that God wants us to disconnect from that buzz and get quiet and be with Him more even for a minute at a time and especially for hours and days at a time back to nature and back to things that we love. We must learn to unplug and reconnect for ...more

"Get Your Life Back" is a wonderfully encouraging book from renowned author John Eldredge. In his book, he walks his readers through the importance of caring for our soul in ways that will please God. I was especially intrigued by his practice of the "One Minute Pause." I found this book to be very practical and helpful, while also consistently steering the readers back toward the one relationship that truly matters: our relationship with the Lord. I highly recommend this book!

I truly savored this book. When you get it, I recommend reading it very slowly. Dont rush. I remember reading The Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster for the 1st time back in 96. It took me a full year but it was a year that changed my life. This book is like that. Im so thankful for John Eldredge and Ransomed Heart Ministries for writing it. I believe this book will be as, if not more impactful, as his bestseller Wild at Heart. I plan to keep a couple of copies on hand to give out to ...more

I finally used my $25 Barnes&Noble gift card I got for my birthday in 2018 for this book. I was saving it for something worth while as I typically buy from thrift and half price books and this was WORTH IT. I'm glad gift cards don't expire :)

I highly enjoyed this book. Simple revelations, satisfying reassurances. This book holds some practices that should be implemented into your daily. I have taken an interest in utilizing his advice and can already see the benefits of grounding myself

A rescue

This book. I didn't think I needed it, but then I downloaded the Pause app. Whoa. What a huge, life-giving thing. I dove in to this book and like so many of his, I'm going to have to read it again. And again. There is a forgetting. But right now having just read it? I feel encouraged. I have been given tools I desperately needed to carry on. It is wonderful.

Full of life.
Living a life with God, inhabited, interwoven and saturated. A goal for a lifetime! "The image of a fountain, gently overflowing with the waters of life, the soul that is receiving God in unceasing grace." P 56 Remembering that God is the Creator of everything I love. I got the One-Minute app a couple of months ago, and it's simple premise helped me long before I had a chance to read the book. I recommend both! And the Daily Prayer at the end. What a way to start a day.

TBH I wrote Eldredge off long ago when I read "Wild at Heart." But I was recently re-introduced to him by a friend. This book is one of the most practical and actually helpful books on caring for our souls I've read in a long time. Eldredge connects the dots well, this book is both simple and challenging in terms of actual practice for soul care and practices for everyday connection to God. Really enjoyed it and recommend it.

John does an amazing job showing us the importance of benevolent detachment...not taking on every last bit of trauma the world throws at us. He encourages the reader to learn to pause throughout the day, reconnecting with God through the stillness, the beauty of creation and the promise that God is always with us. Such a convicting yet refreshing read.

What I enjoyed most about this book was the practical dailies it suggests. Reading this in the middle of the COVID-19 shutdown I found it more applicable than John probably intended. A must read for anyone who feels overwhelmed and burdened by the weight of the world and not really sure what to do about it. ...more

His best book since Waking the Dead. This Clarion call addresses technology in light of Christian disciplines. With tools like the One Minute Pause, getting back to nature, and new nueroscience on our unhappiness due to oversaturation of media.

I've enjoyed it so much I've already given out half a dozen copies. Highly recommend.

Good for the Soul

It has been several years since Id read Eldredge, but Im so glad I came back with this one. Spiritually rich and incredibly practical, Eldredge challenges us to slow our souls down and to replenish our spirits.

Recommended to me by Rebekah Rhoades.

Excellent treatment on the speed of modern life and how we can fight back (though that implies more violence than Eldredge suggests).

Many great takeaways. His app about taking daily pauses is one of my favorites.
