I've worked in the Middle East for many years and it is one of my favourite places to be. I'm never happier than wandering the streets of Istanbul, Damascus, Jerash or Aqaba. For me there is nothing better than the sounds of the call to prayer, the smell of the charcoal brazier of a street vendor mixing with the melting hot tarmac of the inner city roads.
