Jealousy. Betrayal. Family secrets.

Appearances are everything in my family. We are the Strongs. Fame is our birthright. Music flows through our veins in a continuous harmony. Flaws are unacceptable.

When my parents got a good look at the freak they’d created, I was hidden away, my existence wiped out.

Until they discovered my secret.

Now I had something they wanted.

Having read many of author Leslie Georgeson’s books, I knew I would get an unusual hero. Here, I got one who thought himself to be a freak, was actually called so by his family, but was, in reality, quite striking in his looks and talent. Unique.

Zeke ran away at the age of sixteen when his family wanted to take advantage of his talent, to be swallowed in the world of obscurity. Until one day, a strong woman, Mia, came knocking on his door. Something fluttered in his heart when his lips tumultuou

This is a really unusual story with some memorable characters. I was not familiar with the term heterochromia, although I had an aunt with it. It’s having eyes of two different colors and it’s not terribly common, but Leslie Georgeson takes this concept and turns it into something entirely unexpected. Instead of just affecting eye color, Zeke has an extreme case that has affected his skin color and hair color as well. It makes for a striking look, and as a result, he feels like a freak. It doesn ...more

Started out ok. Was intrigued enough to find out more. But the last half of the book went downhill fast and was seriously unbelievable! I Skipped a few chapters just to get to the end. Very juvenile book.

This is the first book by Leslie Gorgeson that I have read. It is phenomenal! I loved the characters and there is just enough suspense, love and mystery!

Freak really held my attention. I read it in two sittings, with the break being there only because I had to go to bed and snooze, or I would have been up all night! It drew me in and grabbed me. There are some serious highs and lows to be had, with me even getting close to teary eyed at one point.

The book is written from the alternating point of view of Mia and Zeke. We first meet Zeke as a child, struggling with a lack of love and acceptance from his family. He is a troubled child, who grows up
Wanted to like it but it took a different direction

This book had potential. Unfortunately for me , it went in a completely different direction than I thought.
It went from "probable" to "highly unlikely" in a matter of minutes.

So many things happened that would not have happened in real life. (Police procedures, death inquiries, mafia, child neglect, the list is endless)

So although I would give the first half of this book 3 stars, I unfortunately have to give the second half 1 star. (Hence the a

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "FREAK" WOW!!!!!! What an amazing job Leslie Georgeson does writing this unique interesting captivating book with angst, abuse, murder, secrets revealed, jealousy, betrayal, twists that make for a page turner you can't put down.

This is not the YA (Young Adult) or rock star romance I was expecting. Nor would I label it as mystery/suspense although there were twists and turns that I did not see coming (and I’m rarely surprised by a ‘romance’ novel). Zeke is a fascinating mix of mature and needy (and talented). The author does a fantastic job building the chemistry between the characters (and not getting bogged down in multiple long sex scenes). There was a bit of repetition and telling rather than showing in the first ha ...more

I felt so bad the way Zeke was treated most of his life, he was called a freak by his family because he was born with congenital heterochroma. He had a teacher that believed in him and helped him to be a better person. His father was terrible and Zeke became the reclusive songwriter so he wouldn’t have to meet anyone with the way he looked. His brother tried to pull a fast one on Zeke by sending Mia to him but it backfired because they fell for each other. Then there were other people looking fo ...more

Zeke has a hereditary characteristic called heterochromia. He has different colored eyes and one side of his body is darker than the other. He has written hit songs for a number of artists. He is a recluse because he feels people would not accept him because of his looks. He was abused as a youth by his parents. They made him feel not wanted. Zeke finds friendship and love with Mia. Murder, kidnapping, and a secret revealed. This novel had me enthralled from the beginning. It was very hard to pu ...more

This is book one in the Something Real series. Wow, what an amazing start to a series. This is Zeke and Mia's story and what a fantastic adventure it makes. I loved reading this book and getting to know each and every character that plays a part in Zeke and Mia's journey. Let me tell you, this story kept me on my toes and my emotions on high alert. With a family where perfection is the standard, if don't meet those standards, it's impossible to fit in. If you have something they want or can use, ...more

I wish I could keep clicking and adding more stars. What a book. Such abuse by some very twisted people who hide their sins behind their fame. Yet call themselves "family." A life of lies, pain and degradation. This author has written a story that will stay with you long after you close the book. Such a gripping read, you'll find your thoughts drifting back to it again and again. Leslie Georgeson is a phenomenal author and I am looking forward to reading more from her.

Excellent story
The story is excellent, unpredictable between the beginning and the end. I loved the characters, Zeke's slow revelation, his release from everything he's been through thanks to Mia who had been sent for information, but then stays with him.
Aside from the couple, most of the characters are all twisted for reasons that seem disproportionate, but that's also what strengthens the bond between Mia and Zeke.

Emotional, heart wrenching, brutal. I mean I ran the gamut with this one. SO exquisitely written and it is brutal at times but my gosh so good! I LOVE LOVE Zeke and Mia. I honestly can say I want more of him! Uniquely different and utterly gorgeous! Talented and stunning! To be accepted just the way you are is tremendously satisfying! When is the next book coming?

4 1/2 stars
I became emotionally invested in this story of a young man tormented from the beginning having been born with a unique characteristic. It was a beautifully crafted story told with so much heart that the story came alive for me.

I requested a copy of this book so I could provide an honest review.

So glad I decided to finally read this powerful story. Unfortunately there are too many parents like in this story, some even worse. The power of a teacher's influence she never be under estimated either. Love is truly the power not given enough credit. This author .manages the tension well, but the foreshadowing may have been too much in the loss of one. Super building of suspense. ...more

Soooo good!

*****Freak by Leslie Georgeson: sooo good!
Mia/Zeke. OMG — this book! This book sucked me in! With the poetic writing and the feels. The emotion, the injustice, the crazy. Unbelievable horrors and secrets. The heat and love. The genuine realness that was emotional, touching, sweet. Lots of twists and turns, and a beautiful HEA. I couldn’t put it down!

I loved💘it

I enjoyed reading this one. It was a little slow at the beginning - it got a lot better.
The characters were amazing. Some were just downright mean.
This story has action, drama, suspense, sex, romance and so much more.
The sex scenes are scorching HOT🔥!

Read it for yourself.
I found myself enjoying this book, but got a little bored in the middle. Then all of a sudden the action picked back up and my interest kicked up as well. I did feel like the writing style changed some at the end of the book. It felt more like we were being told the story instead of living it.

This is one of the best books I have read recently. The story is interesting and fast paced. Characters are so real to life and you can’t help but root for Freak. Story line was awesomely written.

I'm so iffy with this author!
I like her stories but the writing gets repetitive and long winded.
I was ready for the story to wrap up when I realized I was at 20%.
Trudging through some mundane bits, the mystery of Zeke starts to really unfold.
Over all the story is good. I am interested in the next book.
I appreciate that her books are interconnected standalones without a cliffhanger.
Though I might try, it is highly unlikely I will ever finish any of her series'. The pace gets to me every tim

Definitely Different

I wasn't expecting half of what was in this book. Freak is not your usual rock star book, in fact I don't think that is the correct genre, but no matter, the story was unique. Zeke was an amazing character, a recluse and song writing savant however that's not what makes him special. Mia is originally sent to meet Zeke for nefarious purposes but a tidal wave of secrets, lies and betrayal soon follow. If you like genre mash-ups then give this one a try
