I haven't read the first book in this series but it doesn't stop me from enjoying this book. Maybe if I did read the first one I could enjoy this one even more but I still think it's ok to read it as standalone.
I enjoyed plot and all those intrigues - as a fan of books about royalty fighting for power. Zara was my favorite character as she's strong female character that isn't afraid to fight for what she wants.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy of the book in exchange for an h

Callum is trying to take the throne back from his uncle Gracchus, the usurper, after his family was massacred. He is part of the rebel group and they enlist the help of Zara, the princess of L'Ortagia and a nocturne, to ensure the support of the nobles.

I liked the plot of this book. The romance made it engaging but I felt it was a little bit rushed. I was also hoping that Zara would be able to provide more persuasion to gain the support of the nobles but it seemed like she was only there to prov

In book 2 of Ainsley Wynter's delightful Once Upon a Princess (The Lost Royals Book 2) readers find more court intrigue, just enough nocturne magic to keep everyone on guard and a bit afraid, and more of her always well-written love and romance scenes that are hot, adult, and steamy enough for late night reading.

I enjoyed book two for many reasons but primarily because Wynter's strong handling of her protagonist's character arcs that made both main characters Zara and Callum likeable and worth r

Ainsley Wynter has written a 5-star book. This book starts out with Zara finding out that her mother has decided to marry her off to a man she does not like. Her way of getting out of it is to leave. She has been in touch with Ash who is with the rebels and they are trying to get rid of King Gracchus, he had his cousin the true king, queen, and their children killed or so he thought. Ash is Prince Cullum, one of his father's guards saved him when his parents were killed. Cullum needs Zara's help ...more

This is the first book that I have read in the series and I did enjoy it.
I liked both of the main characters and they had a depth of character. There is plenty of emotion, danger and people out searching for them. At times it was hard for them (and the reader) to know who exactly to trust. And others like Viola it was as clear as day that she was 100% on their side. There were a few others that fell into that category as well. So they made for good secondary people.
Zara had a gift that her mothe

In the fantasy kingdoms of Embury, L'Ortegia and others in this realm bearing similarities to British monarchy back in the day, equality among sexes is in full swing. There doesn't seem to be any role dedicated to a male or female per sey, but of course the name would be different depending on the role and gender occupying it. For example, male would be king and female queen. It is a complex book, in my opinion, as it involves politics, people with powers called nocturnes, and violent conflicts, ...more

Lots of Intrigue and Magic!

What a delightful fantasy novel! I liked how the author jumped us right into the action, showing a pivotal event from the hero’s past. The book had all sorts of elements that are always fun to see in fantasy, like court intrigue, hidden magic, forced betrothals, rebel camps, and much more. But I'll let you discover that for yourself if this kind of fantasy interests you. The book could be read as a standalone, but you would most likely appreciate the deeper background

Will love flourish while on the run? Now that she is with the Embury rebels and Prince Callum, she wants to do what she can to see him or his brother Duncan, if he can be found, put on the throne and the usurper Gracchus gone. But Gracchus has people looking for them everywhere and they have to keep moving. She and Callum have grown close, but as one noble woman warned her, Callum has no room in his life or heart for a relationship or love. His only goal right now is finding his lost siblings an ...more

A good start to what can prove to be an interesting series.

Magic, murder, mayhem and more define this book, and a lovable set of characters along with an easy & engaging writing style adorn it. Though the pace goes up and down, it plays well with the overall script.

The second book in The Lost Royals series a well written story that kept me turning pages. This is Prince Callum of Embury and Princess Zara of L’Ortagia's story, it starts with Callum watching from his hiding place as his parents are assassinated at the hands of a very evil man. This story grabbed my attention from the start and did not let go until I had finished reading. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Great addition to the Sci-Fi/Paranormal Romance genre!

The writing draws you in and keeps you involved throughout the whole story, I found myself in love with not only the characters but also the world she created.

The attitudes toward the events that are happening make the story even richer and the characters more relatable.

Even though this is book 2, it can definitely be read as a standalone. I haven't read the first book and didn't feel like I needed to at all. At most there were just a couple times that it would have probably enhanced a situation or such, but that's about it.

So this was okay. I liked it, and I enjoyed it...but I'll not ever read it again. I liked the premise and everything that happened here, but I just didn't get that into it. It was great to have a sheltered princess not balk about living in t

Sizzling! Ainsley bakes the mold, seals the pattern and masters the cracks fusing this baby together piece by jagged piece. She spins a block busting, prize winning masterpiece into one tantalizing creation of perfection, catapulting this gem into an incredible mind blowing culmination. One chaotic ride with a bounty of swirling emotions bursting forward front and center. The drama, intrigue and engaging suspense thrusts this little gem into a tailspin with marvelou

First off, this is book two in a series, but you don't have to have read book one to engage with the characters. The plots appear to run concurrently, so there's maybe a little additional depth to be gained, but the story stands on its own.

The set up of the story is about a power play between a tyrant usurper and the rebels opposing him. Head of the rebels is the true heir to the throne, although he's still looking for his older brother, who might have survived the attack on their family many ye

Princess Zara flees her home from an unwanted marriage to the neighbouring kingdom's usurper's heir. She joins a group of rebels fighting to overthrow the usurper, only to find one of the rebels is her old friend, Prince Callum, presumed dead. What follows is their adventures as they fight to free the kingdom and uncover secrets.

This book has a good mix of adventure, fantasy and romance and was an enjoyable, easy read. The characters are interesting and strong without crossing the line in to stu

Lazy afternoon fun read
“Once Upon A Princess” is a wonderfully funny adult paranormal fairytale that has intrigue, action, suspense with a romantic bend that is both exciting and sweet. The storyline is fast-paced and flows smoothly from action to steamy romance and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat through the last page. This is a truly enjoyable and fun read.

Is it possible to write a sweet romance that is also steamily sultry? Apparently it is, as the story is as sweet as any fairy tale but the scenes when Zara and Callum are alone are HOT. That together with Zara learning to stand rather than follow and Callum pursuing his dreams make for a delightful light read for young adults over 16.

I loved this fantasy romance!!! Both steamy and sweet, with enough political intrigue to make it a worthy successor to the first book in the series. There is a definite Robin Hood vibe to this story of an outcast prince and his band of rebels, with a touch of magic and all the kissing. This book stands alone, though I'm eagerly awaiting the next in the series.

A very cute and a little steamy at times fantasy romance, fast paced and fun with a Robin hood feel to it, a lovely way to spend some time in the pages of this fun story
