I appreciate this book not only for the clues it gave me about Harry Potter but also because of the skills it helped me develop as a reader - as a kid reading this for the first time, it never occurred to me that authors might hide "secrets" in their writing. I wouldn't say this book inspired me to eventually become an English major, but it opened doors for me and gave me a new appreciation of the work that goes into writing not just Harry Potter, but any book.
I didn't like the way this book was set up as well as the way the first book was set up. It was harder to follow and required much more searching on my part to find out the mysteries and red herrings and other information that I wanted to know about Book 5. I wanted more information given to me. Still interesting, but I didn't gain as much from it as the analysis of books 1-4.
Meh. This was a cash-grab for sure. In their introduction letter, Galadriel Waters admits that they just hadn't completed the full guide yet so published this "hints" book to tide fans over while they finished. This book was lazy, with half formulated ideas and vague references for readers to look up. It was more frustrating than anything. And this is from someone who has read this book and series multiple times over the years! I had no idea what they were trying to tie together with their cheeky nudges. Disappointing and not worth it, stick to the full guides.
This was a fun book to read, in preparation for the upcoming release of Book 5. It was also funny to see all the things they concentrated on, that ended up meaning nothing or not at all what they were aiming for! Oh well - that's what speculation is all about. And, that's what made this whole series of books so much fun!
This was a lot harder to read than UUGuide to the Mysteries. I enjoyed the other book because it was easy. This would be a very enjoyable read for anyone who likes to figure out the clues by themselves rather than have them handed to you on a plate.
This was not a good book to read while waiting for the next Harry Potter installment; all it did was make me want the next Harry Potter book more. Maybe I shouldn't have expected the book to answer the questions it raises especially since its all about figuring out the clues yourself.
This book was great to keep my mind pre-occupied during that long wait for Order of the Phoenix's release. I love how the WWP breaks apart all the books.
The guide for books 1-4 was much more comprehensive and user friendly. This one was much more disjointed. I wish they would have kept to the original format.
