No, this is not a study of America's Generation X (God forbid!) nor Billy Idol's original band (which took its name from this book). This incisive study of Britain's own "lost generation" of the 1960s echoes Paul GoodMan's GROWING UP ABSURD: alienation (from society and each other), pop nihilism, and both a zest for and confusion about the budding sexual revolution. Think of GENERATION X as the text for The Who's QUADROPHENIA rock opera.

‘If you’re a Mod, you’re a Mod twenty-four hours a day...’ Difficult to say whether the original speaker meant this to encompass the time spent trawling eBay for relative steals on out of print books, but this one was well worth tracking down - essential reading for anyone whose time outside their ad agency job is occupied by such noble pursuits as making their own clothes and playing Blue Beat singles for their cats!
