A movie-making girl tries to make a documentary showing the magic behind the miracles of Glimmer Creek. She is convinced that the completion of this film will coincide with her absentee actor dad coming to the annual Miracle Festival to see her and her documentary. His assistant's email informs her that the dad she has never met will take a break from filming in Richmond to see the film. As Rosie's deadline looms closer, her troubles also multiply. She is keeping secrets from her mom. She is fel ...more

Thank you to the author and publisher for sending me an ARC of this book to review.

I admit, it was the beautiful cover of this book that first caught my attention. Then it was the first chapter where Rosie tries to film a scene for her upcoming movie that ends in disaster. Very quickly, I was enamored with Rosie and her big ideas, which included getting her father (whom she'd never met) to come to her film debut about the miracles that people in her town experienced.

What I loved most about this

This was an average middle grade for me. I'm not sure where it fell flat. I just didn't connect to any of the characters. I'll also admit the adults in this book just really frustrated me to no end. I will say I admire the perseverance, dedication and passion the main character had for becoming a director. Overall it was an easy middle grade and I would recommend for the directed age range.

I absolutely adored this MG debut! Hackney succeeds in building a setting so rich, it feels like a character in itself - from the eclectic but loveable casts of townspeople, to the complex and changing dynamics of protagonist Rosie's friend group. At the heart of the book is Rosie's intimate relationship with her single mother and her longing for her absentee father. The tight plot, along with these complicated family dynamics, will have readers anxious to finish the book but sad when they do.

Forever Glimmer Creek is a heartwarming, beautifully written, gentle-yet-powerful middle grade story about Rosie, a girl who lives in a small town where unusual miracles may—or may not—be part of the landscape, and who is navigating a complex set of changing friendships and family relationships.

I loved Hackney's depiction of Rosie's relationship with her single mom. It felt charming but real, as did Rosie's complicated hopes and fears about her long-absent dad (that depiction was particularly p

Quirky, somehow Southern magical realism. I don't get a lot of call for this type of book, but it should be popular with readers who enjoy books like:

LaRocca, Rajani. Midsummer's Mayhem
Caprara, Rebecca. The Magic of Melwick Orchard

Rosie, with her movie-making obsession and determination to solve the mystery of the random Miracles that happen in Glimmer Creek, will warm the hearts of readers in grades 4-7. Themes of working hard to make dreams come true plus the value of friendship and family leap off the pages as Rosie, Cam and Henry navigate the sometimes turbulent waters of 7th grade and support each other as Rosie searches for her father, Henry worries about his mother and her fight against cancer, and Cam tries to fit ...more

This debut charmed my socks off. Glimmer Creek, VA reminded me of Stars Hollow, CT in the best possible way. Rosie and her mom love to watch old movies, and Rosie herself is a budding film-maker, eager to make a documentary on her town's claim to fame, which is its miracles. Rosie yearns for a connection with her father, who she's never met, and she's certain her documentary will pull him into her orbit. I loved Rosie from the start: her ambition, her care for her friends, her strong ties to her ...more

During this book Rosie must take a closer look at the relationships she has with the people in her life. I loved the small-town setting, and this is another book that is getting me more into the magical realism genre. I enjoyed watching Rosie, Cam and Henry navigate the the rough waters of middle school and grow in their true friendship. I love that Rosie's beliefs did not falter throughout the story, and her realization of what made Miracles happen just made it that much more heartwarming.

I know my fourth graders would love this in our classroom library!

Forever Glimmer Creek is heart-warming novel perfect for middle grade readers. The setting and characters pulled me right in and never let go. I loved Rosie's determination, fascination with films and film-making, and loyalty to her friends. There is mystery, some interesting recipes, a little bit of magic, and lots of heart in this debut novel. I had such a warm feeling when I finished this book!

Grateful to the author and Simon & Schuster for sharing an ARC with MG Book Village!

The folks in Glimmer Creek know there’s something special about their small town. Every year, one lucky resident survives danger and is gifted with bits of magic that last a lifetime. There’s no explanation for these Miracles, but that doesn’t stop filmmaker Rosie from believing in them.

Readers will immediately feel part of Glimmer Creek as Rosie decides to create a documentary about the Miracles with the help

I want to live in Glimmer Creek!

Stacy Hackney has created the most amazing town full of engaging and vivid characters. Glimmer Creek is a place of Miracles that are unexplained and magical.

We follow Rosie, a seventh grader, as she searches to find the truth about why the Miracles happen and who gets Miracled (such a wonderful word). On her journey, she rides a roller coaster of obstacles, yet never loses sight of her goal even if it means she has to break rules, lie to her Mama, who is her numb
