Happy for this to be my 700th review of the year, since Demon Slayer is probably the best manga I've read all year along with Spy X Family.
This volume starts off amazing with Tanjiro and Giyu putting up a hell of a fight against Akaza and boy oh boy do both struggle and play off some awesome moves. On top of that we get Akaza background, and as much as we hate him at this point, his background sure adds so many layers to make him a better character. Then we switch over to Doma and his fight wit ...more

This volume was a bit more heavy on plot-contrivances and back-story, but it was still really good on the art. One battle with one of the main antagonist-lieutenants finally comes to an end. This guy was one of the most notorious villains of the series besides the big bad since the end of the Demon Train-arc. Meanwhile, the most hated of the Upper Moon lieutenants since this final arc began is still giving one of the protagonists a hard time, but then my favorite of the protagonists and the best

Dammit I hate it when I cry for the bad guys. This volume focuses on the fights against Akaza and Douma. Both are emotionally charged in very different ways. Akaza’s backstory is truly heartbreaking. It’s so heartbreaking I cried. It doesn’t excuse who he’s become, but Muzan has a habit of preying on those when they are unbelievably vulnerable and then sways them to become a loyal demon. Tanjiro and Giyuu are struggling to defeat him until Tanjiro remembers something his father taught him. The t

I think this book was better than the previous and felt more organized. I can say that this volume is split into two main parts: Tanjiro and Giyuu against Akaza (also Akaza's past life) and Kanao and Inosuke against Doma. Ever since Kyojuro died, I was waiting for a rematch and this is more than anyone could ask for. Akaza is one of those demons you really feel sorry about despite being an a-hole most of the time. Inosuke getting his memories back was also a good touch. Overal ...more

Still in the dimensional fortress arc but our heroes are making some progress now!
Honestly though, my favourite part of this volume is that Inosuke's BACK, and ready to kick some a**! I love this guy, and I'd been missing his presence over the past few volumes 8'D

I have A LOT of conflicting feelings about this volume, most are negative. But before I get into them, let me say that I still really liked this volume and that I'm still pumped to see where this arc goes. Okay? Okay, let's go.
My first issue is with the finale of the fight between Giyu, Tanjiro, and Akaza. Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVED Akaza's backstory. It painfully shows the cycle of violence and how difficult it is to escape from it. Also, Akaza taking responsibility for his actions and ac ...more

Another exciting entry into the Demon Slayer manga series, but with far more emphasis on the Second and Third Kizuki demons. These characters, Akaza and Doma, take up a lot of story space and battles in this volume. Akaza is focused on heavily in this volume, and I don't think his backstory was handled as well as it could have been. Gotouge had to rush a lot of important plot details to fill the necessary space for this volume. It definitely shows when he places paragraphs in between chapters.

Wow...
The way Tanjirou was not detected by Akaza, was truly amazing because he was able to try that "see through world" that his father told him.
Sometimes, I feel a small sympathy for these upper demons because they because demons because of their scarring past. Akaza's (Hakuji's) was one of those...
Also, remember that time where Inosukue had a very very short back story? I have always wondered how he got to be raised by a boar family and then wandered around where he met a garndpa who taught hi ...more

I know all shonen manga have the *past memories sequence* before and during a big fight. But I love that trope.
Getting a glimpse into Akaza's past, I was pretty much on the sadness cliff. The way the people in his life die. I felt for him, even if he's a killing demon fiend. And then getting to know Inosuke's past more, I really liked that and the sadness cliff welcomed me again. I'm eager to see how volume 19 will handle the fight between Inosuke/Kanoe and the 2nd rank upper demon. ...more

I love how each of them is their own character and none of them is unimportant to the story. I'm not sure if there's any character that I hate, (maybe? but can't think of any) but it's hard to not appreciate and love them! And yeah, of course the sad stuff is always present :')
Anyways, I always find myself waiting for the backstories to appear because the backstories are one of my fave parts definitely. ...more

Why do villains have to have such depressing back stories! I don't want to pity them! However, at the same time I do love when villains have more depth to their character. But still! That was honestly one of the saddest back stories I have ever read! And then what the heck Kanao! She went from this smiley, quiet girl who had used to flip a coin to make decisions to a savage!

I need Demon Slayer to stop making me cry and feel bad for some of these demons. Reading about Azaka life as a human and the reason behind him wanting to get stronger. The image of what he did to people at the dojo...I am not sure I want to see that in the anime.
We get more history about Inosuke as well.
Feels like we are getting to the final battle.

Giyu, Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Kanae really go all in this volume. Akaza became a very interesting antagonist and Doma deserved what came to him. The background of Ino and Kanae with these fights hit the heart. I would also like to add the fighting and blend of narrative punched harder with every unexpected twist.
Akaza is definitely my favorite Demon in the series. I just watched Mugen Train earlier this week, and I can't wait to hear Akira Ishida voice the stuff that happens in this volume. He's gonna kill it. And KANAO. There's a reason she's on the volume cover. This really was her volume. I'm all for Inosuke showing up and helping, but Kanao BETTER be the one to kill Doma.

I love this series and this volume was so good. I loved the backstory on the upper rank demon. It was touching and tragic. Our hashira and trainees are fighting for their lives. So excellent. Also, we get a glimpse into Inosuke's past.
