Abby Callier is more in love with Shakespearean heroes than any real man, and she’s beginning to wonder if there is life for her outside the pages of a book. It doesn’t help that her esteemed parents tend to view her as they would one of their science experiments gone wrong. On the eve of finishing her dissertation, she escapes her staid existence to live in the house she ...more

A gorgeous contemporary romance. Rich in descriptive language and content.

The only minus was that Abby wasn’t sure she was staying in Echo Springs and didn’t tell Nate. The friends she made warned her to tell him and it weighed on her conscience but she still didn’t tell him. I don’t like it when their are lies or when problems could be solved by a simple conversation.
Saying this, the conflict and resolution was done well and gave the characters

description This book was a bit of a mixed bag for me. 🙈 There were some parts I loved. 💗 Rufus. 🐶 The ongoing joke about the dolls. 👶 The secondary characters. 👤👤👤👤👤 Both Nate and Abby were likable. 💞 The sex was hot. 🔥 There was no OW or OM drama, and the ending was satisfying (albeit rushed). 👍

However, I felt the entire book needed a good edit. 👀 There was way too many repetitive inner thoughts from both Abby and Nate. 😪 The whole side story line with the journal felt forced and unnecessary, and there

A case to solve.
A pet to love.
A couple to fall for.

Abby’s family life is a little complicated. She wants to find her own place in the world. Using the journal entries from her Great Aunt, Abby uncovers a place to call her own.

A beguiling, delightful and bewitching tale of romance and new beginnings told with passion and zest.

The Fixer Upper is the story of Abby and Nate. After inheriting an old Victorian house in Echo Springs, Colorado, Abby decides to move there to complete her dissertation. Nate is the local sheriff and her neighbor. They share an immediate attraction to each other, and it's not long before they fall into bed. The spark between them is too instant f

This is a contemporary romance and at first, I would have labeled it a cozy. It’s in a small town named Echo Springs. The main character has inherited an old home from her Grand aunt. It has a handsome sheriff who happens to live right next door to Abby, the main character. But there’s no dead body and the sheriff only has to worry about a few break-ins and… it’s much steamier than your everyday cozy. It is definitely a romance.
I am not a fan of the romance genre. It’s just not my thing. Howeve

Humor, passion, drama, and a touch of mystery, The Fixer Upper was a fun read. The chemistry between these two was on fire. I loved the tension and the build between them. The addition of the mystery, while small, created a sense of suspense that I enjoyed. Gallagher sprinkled in a few laughs here and there that put a smile on my face and added a lightness that I appreciated.

Missed moments and lack of communication caused some frustration but it all added to the drama of the story. I enjoyed the

Love this book! I was looking for something fun and entertaining to get me through a tough weekend, and this was it! If you enjoy fixer-uppers, adorable dogs, quirky heroines and stud-ly sheriffs, you'll love this, too! I highly recommend.

Reviewed for Romancing the Readers Blog:

I'm always on the hunt for new to me authors so when I was going through my email and found this book come up I thought...maybe and moved on. I didn't delete the email, I just left it for later. Throughout the day it came to me and finally I decided to get it.

I'm so glad that I did.

From the minute Abby tried to hit Nate with a golf club I was hooked. These two are perfect for each other even if they didn't know it

We meet Abby as she moves across the country to live in her Aunt's house she inherited as well as get away from her overbearing family. Imagine her surprise when she gets an unannounced visitor on night one accusing her of trespassing. One things are cleared up she finds out the hunky guy is her new neighbor as well as the Sheriff who also happens to own a sweet yet clumsy giant dog who is a real hoot I

A good story but a lot of repetition that started out funny but became monotonous. Also, lots of unnecessary miscommunication.

Abby Callier uproots her academic life under academic parents and defies them to write her dissertation on English Literature, instead of something more appropriate, in the small Colorado town outside Denver where her great aunt lived. Tiny Echo Springs is the opposite of everything Abby is used to. She plans on finishing her paper, get her doctorate, and sell her aunt’s house. That’s the plan anyway. But things seldom go according to plan. For one, her aunt’s victorian home is filled with an ar ...more

Abby inherits her late aunts house and sees living in it and fixing it up as a stop along the way to the life she wants.
Problem is she really doesn't know what she wants.
Her neighbor Nate is the local sheriff. He's renovating his home as well and runs across a diary that has ties to Abby's family. He meets Abby her first night in her aunts house and it's not the meeting most people have!
Their story is a bit sweet, a little funny (the dolls) and pretty sexy. Though at times I wished it would move

This book was delightful from start to finish. The story of Abby and Nate is romantic and full of love and friendship, but also witty and hilarious. It's a fun, easy read that explores what's really important in life. I loved the story in the journal that Nate finds and the way it unfolds throughout the book. I loved Abby's character and her sense of humor as well as her loving nature that really shines through her relationship with the dog. The supporting characters were also well-developed wit ...more

Why 5*?
1 hot, sexy sheriff who knows what he wants and is good with his hands. He loves his dog and friends, and is dedicated to his job.

1 super smart heroine with a whacked sense of humor and an overactive, creepy imagination who has never felt like she's fit in before but finds that home sometimes finds you. Plus, she has a soft spot for big, goofy dogs and isn't afraid to go for what she wants.

A great story that tugs at the heart, makes you smile and laugh out loud. Can't wait for the next

On one level I enjoyed this story. On another level I skipped lots of pages because of the repetition of things that appeared to be simply filler.

Yes, there were lots of dolls, and of course they were all killers. Yes, the handsome and charming sheriff, Nate, looked good in jeans and had male equipment that was breathtaking. Yes, Abby wanted to have sex with the handsome and charming sheriff, Nate, the minute she saw him. Yes, the handsome and charming sheriff, Nate, looked t

The Fixer Upper by Maggie Mae Gallagher is the first book of her Echo Springs series. The story focuses on Abbey Callier and her romance with Sheriff Nate Barnes. Nate’s big, lovable, slobbering Great Dane, Rufus brings some comedic relief. There is a strong sexual chemistry between Abby and her Sheriff Stud Muffin. I find Abby’s constant reference of her aunt’s dolls as the army of the undead dolls and her horror film entries not amusing. I do enjoy the way the journal Nate finds plays the part ...more

I loved this emotional and heartfelt story and the wonderful characters that live in the town of Echo Springs, Colorado. While this story is about the meeting, relationship, and eventually falling in love of two people, it will have a back story that will be shared in a journal from days gone by—so really, it is two separate love stories that interconnect.

Abby Collier will move to the home of her late great aunt Evie Collier that was willed to her. She

This is book one in the Echo Springs series and features Abby Callier as the main character. She has just inherited her great aunt Evie’s house and moves there to see what to do with it. She has been distant from her parents due to her change in degree choice – they wanted her to follow in the rest of the family’s path and choose sciences, but she changed her choice half way through and went from a science degree to one about literature. To call her a bookworm would be an apt description. She us ...more
