Natasha Knight is the USA Today Bestselling author of Romantic Suspense and Dark Romance Novels. She has sold over a million books and is translated into six languages. She currently lives in The Netherlands with her husband and two daughters and when she’s not writing, she’s walking in the woods listening to a book, sitting in a corner reading or off exploring the world as often as she can get away.
I don’t even know where to begin or what to say....it was that good.
It is hard to find a really good mafia romance. I mean one with great character development, plausible plot, extraordinary chemistry between the hero and heroine and plenty of action. This book had it all.
Lev and Katerina (Kat) meet in a nightclub managed by Lev. Instantly drawn to her and protective of her Lev nurses her through an accidental drug intoxication. But don’t get it twisted...along with the sweet comes the dangerous in Lev as he works for the Russian mafia. Soon Lev and Kat become embroiled in what they term appropriately a “clusterf***” and they must battle the external and the internal barriers to their love.
This was a exciting and captivating book. Very well written and fast paced. The couple went through much and they still don’t get their happily ever after because the book ends on one heck of a cliffhanger.
I highly recommend this one and I can’t wait until the next episode.
lev, the abusive wannabe mafia weirdo and katerina, the dumb weak no self worth naive girl (with, ofc, body betraying syndrome) who’s even more boring than him. characters with 0 personality, book with 0 romance
ps. does all this hatred has anything to do w my current shitty mood? might be idk tho im in no position to be objective rn. on top of all of that it also made me sleepy asf (my biggest enemy, a big no no)
A disaster . And I'm so sad Because, seriously, I wanted to love this book. I'm a big fan of Mrs Zavarelli: I love Boston Underworld Series and Ghost is one of my favorite Mafia Romance. Plus, even though Natasha Night's books usually don't reflect my taste in romance, I think she is a really talented author. So yes..my expectations were pretty high and I was really excited for this partnership.
Well, let's start with something positive and the reasons why I added a half ⭐️:
• N.Knight and A. Zavarelli are two excellent authors and their writing style was really good.. I can't say anything negative about this aspect.
• Alexei and Talia (from Ghost). I love these two characters and I can't believe Lev shares DNA with my beloved Alexei.
Okey, now I can start my rant:
Seriously what happened ? I haven't found what I usually like in AZ's books and I can't believe she wrote this. On the other hand, Mine totally reflects N. Knight's style and follows her usual pattern :
• Damsel in distress with zero backbone and affected by the infamous Traitorous body Syndrome ✔️
• Abusive violent OTT "hero" ✔️
• Instalust ✔️
• Zero romance ✔️
• a lot of “rapey” sex ✔️
and I wouldn't be so hard if this was classified as dark erotica ... but label it as a romance? Are you kidding me?!! A big fat NO .
✾ PLOT :
I really liked the first 20% of this story, especially the first interactions between the main characters. Unfortunately it was only the calm before the storm..after the first 30% things only got worse. The plot is predictable and full of fortuitous coincidences , which make this story unrealistic and hardly credible. I admit the cliffhanger is well played but I didn’t change my mind: I don't care about these characters and I won't read the next book.
✾ KAT :
She is the perfect mix of everything I hate in a heroine: clueless, naïve, weak, doormat, traitorous body Syndrome and zero sense of self-worth and self preservation. Plus, I kid you not..
Kat is dumb .
Seriously, I couldn’t stand her.
✾ LEV :
I think he's the best thing in all this mess and I really liked him in the first 20/30%. My problem with Lev is that he's not a true alpha. I didn’t like his indecision: he treats Kat like trash and tells her he never wants to see her again. At the same time, he's obsessed with her and her past (he even threatens Kat's bff with a gun to get info about her). I started to despise him after he beats her..I'm sorry but Lev is quite disappointing compared to his cousin Alexei.
✾ LEV + KAT :
The romance was the worst part of this book because well..there was none. They met and they had a one night stand, stop. They don’t know each other and there isn’t a real development of their relationship. No feelings, only lust and possession. And a lot of sex. After 4 years, the only thing they do is sex and their son, Josh, went on an entire lower priority. Plus, the fact that Josh get immediately adjusted to a stranger was the cherry on top.
PS: In my modest opinion , Ties that bind is a little bit overpriced and this duet isn't worth it. If you haven't read it yet, I recommend you Boston Underworld Series: Crow is currently free and the entire series is available on KU.
AHHH! When two of my favorite authors team up to deliver a delicious and sexy bratva/secret baby story, I am in fangirl heaven!! I absolutely loved Mine as it was dark, edge, sexy af and so addicting. I am such a huge fan of Knight and Zavarelli separately, so them writing together was just icing on the cake. I loved Lev and Kat so much. Their connection was fiery and while dangerous and edgy, the explosion of emotions between them could not be denied.
When Levka Antonov meets Katerina Blake it was a meeting that was the beginning of the end for her. He knew it and she sensed it. He took one look at the innocent beauty and he knew he could not leave her alone. She was a good girl who was alone and he was the dangerous man who could not leave this girl in his past. I loved this story because only do we see the draw and the attraction between them, we see that there are emotions as well. What I loved more than anything was Kat's strength after Lev finds her four years later. The innocent kitten became a fierce Mama bear and I was here for it! I loved seeing Lev's protective and possessive behavior once he found Kat and their son. I was addicted to every word.
Overall, this story was gritty and addicting and with that cliffhanger ending, I can't wait to read His. Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula
I can’t decide what’s worse, the monsters who tried to corner her last night, or the monster in me demanding that I allow myself just one taste. One kiss. One touch. One fuck.
Lev doesn’t do attachments and certainly doesn’t rescue broken women because in his opinion attachments become vulnerabilities. But when he sees pretty nineteen years old Kat in the club, high as a kite and vulnerable, he does the unbelievable and takes her to his room and takes care of her. Kat is exactly what he doesn’t need in his life but he can’t help it. something’s about her that draws him in.
I want to know about her scars. Her pain. Every tear she’s ever shed and every secret that might pour from those lips.
But if they know what fate decides for them and what destiny is awaiting them in the future…
Told in dual POV, 1st person. It’s the first installment in the "Ties that Bind" series and it ends on a huge cliffhanger so that’s the warning you get and yet gain I couldn’t help it and dive into it. Well these two authors are my fave ones and they didn’t disappoint! It was really well-written and fast-paced. It’s the second chance mafia romance. Love both characters. Lev was like a real Alpha and what Kat needed in her life even though she didn’t want to accept it at first. Overall, I loved it and hope you enjoy it as well!
This is home turf for Zavarelli, her timid & shy persona hides a devilishly devious mind, that churns out painfully dark romances with consummate ease and familiarity. Her Boston Underground series featuring The Bratva brotherhood of the Vor is legendary in Mafia trope. This book is in the same vein of barbarity and thrums to the same dreadful beat. Levka Antonov is the manager of Delirium- the club which is center of nefarious illegal deeds. Drugs and booze flow freely, washing the morals out of the door. He's a cold & elusive man, focused and lethal.
"I have no attachments. Because attachments become vulnerabilities." In walks fresh as dove, Katerina Blake and the unthinkable happens Eyes collide, hearts hook up and she gets tied to Lev forever.. She's sweet, shy and struggling to survive alone.
"I was a throwaway kid. Not one person gave a single damn about me." This is truly a very dangerous & life threatening development. Behind the scenes is some heinous monstrosity at work. It's tentacles reaching far and wide. Doggedly persistent in pursuit and merciless in meting out assaulting retribution, a nightmare is building up in strength, putting everybody's life in danger I've never read Natasha before but it seems both writers share the same thrilling narration techniques. Their styles have blended seamlessly, making it a double Bonanza for readers. To my delight, my Most Fave Character makes an appearance and I'm giddy with excitement. The pace is slick and smooth, the feels are larger than life. be it icy cold fear or blood heating passion, Zav has managed to inject all the emotions straight in our hearts. I cannot wait for book 2, so I can see what becomes of the cousin! 4.5 stars for innocence lost #BookBistroBlogApproved Follow me on: BookBistroBlog@gmail.com https://Twitter.com/BookBistro www.instagram.com/BookBistroBlog https://bookbistroblogger.blogspot.com/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/BookB...
Oh my stars! I’m on an edge, desperate for the second book! Say hello to your next favorite Mafia read and hold on tight as you’re on a race to survive. The suspense, the hot hot hot Russian alpha and his possessive ways...are so fantastic, you’ll be taking some cold showers as you read this. Expect the unexpected and get ready for a fight.
First book in this duet , "Mine" is a gripping , a bit dark, mafia-romance, that proves that a collaboration between these two authors can be a very good idea.
The book is about Kat -Katerina- a girl that had a hard life but makes the best of it and Lev a russian mobster. Kat goes at a club for her 19th b day and consumes a pill that makes her sick. There she meets Lev, her rescuer from some creeps. He is gentle and caring and she feels a pull to him, and so does he towards her. They have a connection and consume this attraction they have with eachother, but Lev cannot offer her more than that because of his dangerous life, even if he desires badly to make Kat his.
One night, not far from they passionate encounter,Kat witness something she shouldn't have, gets her belongings and goes into hiding far away from Lev. Little does he know that she left with very two important things for him. After 4 years he tracks her down into a small town , and when he sees that she is not alone anymore, but with a little boy that is his mirror image , priorities change fast: most important is to keep is newfound family safe. Trouble catches up with them and in a split second Lev can loose what he just found. This ends with a cliff, but the second book is not far away.
Overall opinion: A solid read, intriguing and a bit dark, I liked Lev but I think he should work a bit more on his communication skills, and Kat, she is resourceful and strong , but gives up bit too fast in my opinion.
This was a book I knew nothing about when I started reading it (well, apart from Vee's rant of course) and I actually enjoyed it. It was OTT sometimes, and his "alpha" went a bit too far sometimes, or maybe it was because the h was a little bit too weak those times, I'm not sure.
Anyways, I enjoyed it and it was very entertaining, the plot wasn't super original, but very light mafia read, which I'm not very interested right now, still good though.
The annoying bit was when I discovered is actually a duet and can't be read as a standalone because ends with a cliffhanger and then I had to proceed to read the second book.
A dangerous and addicting second chance mafia romance. I love the beginning and the story was simply explosive which had a tad bit familiarity with A. Zavarelli's other mafia books but I was simply into the story easily. I am not very much familiar with Natasha Knights books but since she writes books almost similar to A. Zavarelli I will check her books out.
Levka Antonov is a mob who is cold and lethal. He has issues and agenda for being where he is. Katerina Blake is a sweet, shy girl with a horrid past who happens to be in the wrong place on her birthday. Both Lev and Kat share a connection from the beginning and couldn't stay away from each other, when mafia life happens, and trouble comes in most inopportune times which force them in two different directions.
This book has a bit barbarity and assualt. It was a bit dark read and ends with cliffhanger.
Mine is the first book in The Ties that Bind Duet – I have to say I was so excited when I found out that two of my top dark romance authors were collaborating on this project.
Kat and Lev’s story is intense. There is something always happening, there is plenty of suspense, twists and danger.
I love Kat’s strong character, this story really pulled on my heart strings. Lev is edgy, overly protective and fiercely loyal to his family.
Beware the story end on a BIG Cliffhanger so I can’t wait for book 2!
"I have no attachments. Because attachments become vulnerabilities."
A.Zavarelli and Natasha Knight had joined forces and they brought us a fantastic result!!!! Two great mafia writing pens had delivered a very beautiful story full of secrets, passion and suspense!!! Levi and Kat were explosive, and even though in the beginning, i had my reservations, they managed to win me over as the story was developing and i'm dying to find more, especially after that ending!!!!
"Show me your world, Lev."
Kat shouldn't be at "Delirium", but she was. She shouldn't had trusted her friend and swallow this little pill. But she did. And because of that, she found out trouble and her savior was a bigger trouble than the previous one... Lev was shady but gorgeous, and Kat couldn't stay away from him, even though she knew she had...
"I feel like a hunter staring at his prey. I'm drawn to this girl in a way I haven't drawn to anyone else... ever. And that's exactly why I need to let her run, as fast and as far as she can."
Lev was a part of a dark and dangerous world... He knew that he had to keep Kat away from his world, but even though he tried, he just wanted a taste... And then all hell broke loose... Even very late, he tried to stay away from her, but even though he tried, she got into his life and get herself into his mess with no good results...
"I'm no good for her, and she's definitely no good for me. Not with the type of life I lead."
Four years later, Kat is still hiding, but she had created a new life away from the monsters of the past.... A life with her son!!! She doesn't know that she had been found from the man that she was running away from... Lev, after all these years, finally found her and he was sent after her to end her life once and for all... But being so close to her is bringing in the surface feelings that he had to bury deep inside... And the existence of a small boy that looks like him doesn't help things...
"Fuck me. She's even more beautiful than I remembered. A little softer, a little curvier, and without a doubt. the sweetest poison I ever tasted."
So what will happen after all with these two when they are having so many unresolved matters between them???? And when the whole mob seems to be after them??? Will Kat subside her fear for the only man that she ever felt something and who proved to be the worst of them all??? Will Lev let her go, when she was holding something so serious from him???
"Lev and I are bound to one another. I feel like we were from that first meeting. But it's more than that."
Well, i can't wait more of them and their story!!! Kat was a tortured creature... She had an awful past, a past that was still after her and Lev gave her hope... But then, he took that hope away from her and he found herself for once again, hunted and alone... Lev from the other hand, he appeared to be the bad mafia boy, but he had his own issues... From the very first moment, he was very possessive of Kat, and he had a soft spot of her... So inevitable, he couldn't not make a mess to protect his family.... And now, of course, I'm wonddering how the things will turn out after all!!!
"But this is him, isn't it? The dichotomy of Lev. Violence and tenderness, they're interchangeable. He is capable of both to an extreme."
"I remember when she looked at me like I was her hero. Now, I'm the enemy, and it feels like a betrayal. A hot knife in my back. I don't know how to make her understand."
***I received an ARC of this book for the excange of an honest review***
I'm a sucker for the secret baby trope. That's the main reason I didn't dnf this book. The writing was good, nothing about this book was bad..it just didn't wow me.
Notes for myself:
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Since jealous and possessive heroes are my kryptonite how could I not be drawn to this story? If not the title then the book description did it for me. My only hesitation about reading it is was my concern that Lev would not be celibate during the separation while Kat would be. If anything will hurt my enjoyment of a story then it is cheating and/or the hero having sex with OW after meeting the heroine while the heroine is a sexual deep freeze. No matter how many reviews I read I could not find out the answer to my question and so I took the plunge and read it anyway.
I am glad that I did because I enjoyed reading the story and Lev was celibate during the separation as was Kat. Sure it was a lot more clear that Kat was celibate because Lev asked her. However did Kat bother to ask Lev? No apparently it was not a problem for her either way. However some of the story is from Lev's point of view and so two of his thoughts confirmed that he was celibate during the separation. Specifically he thought,
"It's been 4 long years and I am not going to last." and "My c*ck unleashing 4 years of pent up tension and a f*ck long of come."
With some exceptions, the authors both tend to have jealous and possessive heroes and Levi is as well and so I got my fix. Also the story includes hot sexy times and kept my interest. I read it in one sitting. Sure it ends in a cliffhanger and the second book is not out for a couple more weeks but I knew both of these things ahead of time and so I didn't have a problem with either. I will be reading the next book.
Boy, this one caught me off guard. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it and I did. Lev was a really good guy. I love the mafia guys who are kind and considerate at heart. I love the attraction between him and Katerina. I love the back story as they are trying to reconcile issues from their past. It wasn’t overly graphic sexually or in terms of the violence. This is my kind of dark romance, the “lightly dark”.
3 Stars....It didn't blow my socks off, but it didn't blow
There really wasn't any romance between Kat and Lev. Just chemistry, a one night stand and they can't stop thinking about each other. Lev pushes her away because she's too pure to be apart of his life. Kat sees something she shouldn't and because of her tragic past knows to get the heck outta dodge quick.
4 years on the run with her secret baby and Lev finally finds Kat and realizes he's a daddy. Then the story becomes "you're mine and I won't let anyone hurt you" but he falls short and we're left on a major cliffhanger.
I will read the next one to see what happens and maybe there will be more relationship meat in that one.
This Russian mobster will stop at nothing to protect his family. A possessive, alpha male who will risk it all.
Lev and Kat meet at Delirium. It’s a club that embraces the darker side of life. Kat was brought by her best friend Nina to celebrate her ninteenth birthday. A little extra chemical fun leads to a bad situation that forces Lev to step in. He’s no hero. He’s everything Kat should run from.
Kat’s young but she knows what she wants. She may not know what’s good for her, but Lev is a risk she wants to take. He knows he should stay away. But the temptation is just too much to resist.
Kat expects to have her fun and then walk away. However, her whole life is about to be irrevocably changed. Her best friend’s father is on the wrong side of the mafia and Nina gets dragged along. Kat unknowningly goes to Nina for help with a personal matter. Wrong place, wrong time. Now Kat is on the run.
You can’t run fast enough or far enough from the Russian mafia. It may take time, but they will find you.
Lev is fearless. Protecting his family is ingrained in who he is. His mafia boss was his family. When secrets begin to unfold, loyalties change. Lev wants the truth, but now he has more to lose.
A great mafia romance with suspense and steamy, hot sexy times. You’ll love Lev’s possessive side. This man will stop at nothing to keep what’s his.
5 DEAD STARS!! These two phenomenal author have just killed me DEAD. My heart is pounding out of my chest....I have been on the edge of my seat with this captivating story. Lev and Kat's story will squeeze your heart with all the feels and the sexiness is off the charts. I need the next book like NOW. If you love mafia, dark and hotness, you need this book.
First book in the Ties That Bind duet, Mine is the result of the collaborative work of two authors I've been following for a few years now: Natasha Knight and Ashleigh Zavarelli. Their dark mafia romance series never fail to enthrall me.
In Mine, we follow the storie of Kat and Lev. She is a collateral in Lev's work in the Russian Bratva.
Strong young woman, she is loyal to those she loves. That is the reason why she found herself in that intense predicament. Now bound to the dangerous, possessive and protective Lev, her life is going to be changed forever.
"The dichotomy of Lev. Violence and tenderness, they’re interchangeable. He is capable of both to an extreme."
Mine is a intense read with turns and twists. It's not as dark as I expected it to be, considering the previous works of the authors, I can't wait to see if the next opus will deliver the thrill I am so addicted to! *winks*
I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ARC COPY OF THIS BOOK. THANK YOU!!!
These two authors are my dark romance dream team. I loved Kat and Lev’s story. They had a spark but were at different points in their very different lives. Then as everything gets more complicated, their paths cross again but there’s a link they can’t ignore. The plot allowed for the setup for a great second part and gave us just enough to stay on the line. Lev was a bit OTT at times but he ticked all those alpha, sexy boxes that are such a treat.
Complementary copy received and voluntarily reviewed.
I could not get enough of this book, I read it in one sitting!! I loved the chemistry between Kat and Lev. This was dark, dirty and just full of grit. Natasha Knight and A. Zavarelli make quite the writing duo.
Mine by Natasha Knight and A. Zavarelli is an EPIC read and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
Why do romance authors think it's ok for abuse victims to be abused in the exact same way by the so called "hero"
The heroine was sexually abused by her foster father who would make her orgasm and this would cause her a great deal of shame. Then the "hero" handcuffs her whilst she is terrified and proceeds to sexually assault her and makes her orgasm just like her abusive foster father. The hero then whips her with his belt to deliberately cause her pain whilst she is still handcuffed. This was not in a sex scene.
This would still be classed as a dark romance because it's about the Russian mafia so it doesn't need disgusting abusive behaviour by the hero... there is absolutely no need for it. This book would have been fine without that scene.
Its moments like these were I wonder whether the author has had any experience with childhood sexual abuse victims because her portrayal of them is awful
The annoying bit is that I have to read the second book because I hate cliffhangers
DNF at 50% ish, if I’m being honest, it’s shocking that I even got to reach this far, but this is really not for me. Like, I can’t, I just can’t tolerate the guy.
Every page of this book had my mind reeling with anticipation! From one chapter to the next I couldn't read fast enough to see this story and their fates unfold. Mine completely shattered my heart and I'm praying His puts it back together again. These two authors writing together is a force like no other. Their chemistry is unique and intoxicating. I honestly cannot wait to read on to His!
