this is pretty solid, has some great "average person" (versus foodie expert/snob, whatever that really means) reviews of a variety of restaurants around portland. and yes, there is real variety, and real opinions expressed here. as i read through this, i came to know the line between my opinions on what constituted 'good' and his.

the only real complaints i had were minor, but:
* i hate the use of 'gay' as a descriptor (e.g., decor is gay). only happened a couple times, but still.
* would have liked less overlap by region -- i'd go look at a restaurant, only to realize i'd already read the listing
* would have preferred the restaurants printed by region (instead of alphabetical). i know, there was a region listing at the front, but since portland's so big, having the book in sections rather that one huge listing would've been easier on me.

overall, thumbs up. great descriptions & classifications, broad section of restaurant/breakfast types.

Not sure about the panoply of breakfast options before you in Portland, Oregon? Leafing through this book will give you the details to pick the right place for a weekday breakfast before work, a leisurely brunch with friends, or a nicer affair with the parents. It's fun to compare your take on a place with the author's, and find new places that perhaps you never knew served breakfast.

This was quite condescending for a book meant to guide people towards tasty breakfast spots.

This is a great reference book for Portland restaurants. We refer to it often when searching for a new place to go.
