Sometimes people come into a person’s life and make their heart skip a beat.

Those people are called cops.

Well, one cop in particular.

A SWAT officer for the Kilgore Police Department, to be specific.

The first time Avery Flynn saw Derek Roberts, she was photographing him for the first annual Kilgore Police Department SWAT calendar. He was leaned back in his squad car,

I was expecting light and easy and got such an emotional, heart wrenching, turbulent love story that easily earned all of the stars!

Avery Flynn had all the luck... too bad it was all bad First her mom was killed in a car accident, then her dad was killed in the line of duty. She was orphaned and trying to make her way. After taking a year off from her studies, she was back in high school, being bullied about her dead parents. Oh, and someone was desperate to kill her. So freaking lucky!

Avery has it rough, but she never lets it get her down. She knows the hot SWAT officer she's taking pics of for their calendar isn't interested in her, he couldn't make his disinterest more clear. But she's got a lot more important things to worry about than some guy with an oversize ego. She is trying to make it through high school after having taken a year off when her parents passed. She's now completely on her own and making a living the best she can. So when Derek suddenly seems intent on

“Girl can’t catch a break, 5 stars”

Avery Flynn cannot catch a break. She has to have the worst possible luck out of any heroine I have ever read. But through it all she keeps going. Thanks to one photoshoot and a lot of random run ins SWAT officer Derek is finally starting to see Avery as more than the girl with two fallen police officer parents. When a random accident happens, he stops holding himself back from Avery goes after her. He doesn’t care about their

If I was given but a few words to say about this book...
Emotional, Intense, Heat breaking, Beautiful

Why those few words you ask?

We already have some backstory for Avery, but to experiance it through her memories. I needed a box of tissues. My heart hurt for her.

There were moments through this story where Avery could have given up, she just couldn't catch a break, but she didn't. She powered through and probably came out stronger than ever on the other side. This book is so raw when it comes

I love this series and Derek and Avery’s story has a lot of twists that had me shaking my head. The KPD SWAT guys are a loyal family and that’s what draws me into this series. I’ve wanted Avery’s story for so long and the poor girl never seemed to catch a break. Derek was a sweet guy who had to get past all of Avery’s defenses. Lots of crazy action and second guessing until the very end. Definitely kept me on my toes.

Fries Before Guys gives us another SWAT 2.0 guy. Honestly though, this book belongs to Avery. Her SWAT hottie is just a support character.

Avery will bring tears to even the deadest of hearts. Her life is filled with more challenges than anyone her age should have to deal with. Her parents died, she had to take a year off from high school, and now she is a 19 year old senior who has to scrape by just to keep her a roof over her head. Then, she finds out some seriously messed up stuff about her

Avery, she was the sweetest youngest woman and toughest, no matter how many times she was knocked down she just forced a smile on her face and got right back up. And Derek was a terrific guy, you couldn’t help but love him. He’d noticed Avery alright right from the start, but the timing has to be right for every thing.
An awesome read as always from Lani. I can’t wait for Mr Mar.

5 ‘I. Want. You.’ Stars

OMG, Lani Lynn Vale‘s FRIES BEFORE GUYS has put me through the best of ringers! Derek and Avery’s story made you go through one end to the other of the EMOTIONAL spectrum! How is it possible that in just one book, one unforgettable love story, I go from crying my little black heart out to belly hurting, ‘rolling in the floor’ laughing?! Pure LLV brilliance, that’s how!

I knew, going into this book would wreck me, Avery’s
ehhhhh.....I can't give this more than 2 stars. It wasn't necessarily bad - so don't let my rating stop you from reading it - but the little things just annoyed me and took away from my enjoyment.

Fries before guys just isn't what I expected. Not even close.

I love that all her books intertwine in some way or another and you can always catch old faces amongst the new. This world and these characters that's she's created are some of my most favourite ever and the fact she continues to explained and evolve this ever growing world never ceases to amaze me.

Avery has lived a hard life point blank but even more so considering how young she is. No one

I finished this amazing book late Sunday afternoon and I’m still in recovery mode because what an emotional punch this book delivers! I was NOT expecting it which I think just makes the book that much better because I was surprised by not only the tears, but anger I have for a couple characters in this book…don’t worry it’s NONE of the KPD guys cuz they’re all just perfect!!!

Avery is a young woman that has truly had a pitcher full of lemons handed

I’m absolutely loved Lani Lynn Vale’s original KPD-SWAT series, so it’s been a lot of fun to revisit those characters, and meet their children and other new characters in this next generation series. It’s really incredible what Vale has created in her fictional Kilgore, Texas world. She has been building it, story by story, series by series, for years with her many intersecting, intertwining books and series. As a result of this unparalleled character development, Vale has given her

AHHHH, Derek and Avery's story is fabulous! So we all know Derek (Reese and Luke's son) (super side note, read the previous series before this series, this is a second gen story and much better when you have read the parents story, feel me?) and we met Avery in Dax and Rowen's story, so we "know" a little about her. We also know that she is super crushing on Derek but Derek isn't feeling her back, his reason, she is too young. But Avery just can't seem to catch a

When I read the blurb for Fries Over Guys, I really didn’t know how the obstacles, especially the heroine’s age and their initial interaction, would make a relationship between Avery Flynn and Derek Roberts work and I don’t just mean if they would have the chemistry and a solid enough connection to be together…what I mean is, I didn’t know if they would see past everything standing in their way and realize that their age difference didn’t matter, that their first encounter didn’t define what ...more

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. We met both Derek and Avery in the first book and I will tell you I liked them then. Avery is the photographer of the calendar the SWAT guys did for charity. In fact, it is for her that they did the calendar. Life has thrown her a few tough breaks lately. Both of her parents (who were both police officers) died, she is still in high school and having some ...more
I’m closing in on 40 books read from this author. So I know she can write. There’s something comforting about opening a book you know you will enjoy and definitely root for the hero and the heroine and their HEA. Avery and Derek are both very likable characters that you want to see find happiness.

Throughout the book though I found myself pondering the scenarios and their general reality in the real world. I also found myself pondering timeframes and timelines and not in the space time continuum

A forbidden romance with an age gap, I'll be honest and say that Fries Before Guys was a bit questionable because of the age gap factor. However, LLV never disappointed in showing the maturity of the heroine. Seriously, the amount of sh*t that was constantly hitting her fan, you'd expect her to tuck tail and just ran. I was surprised that she never did,but that really showed the strength in her character.

I loved this one through and through. The emotions you'll go through, all because of

If you've read Dax and Rowen's book, you'll remember Avery Flynn as the teenage photographer that is shooting the KPD-SWAT calendar! She comes across as a Trekkie nerd and absolutely out of place among our hunky heroes of the KPD SWAT team. By the way, Trekkie nerds are the best; but I digress!

Avery Flynn is 19 years old and still in high school. She's having a difficult time in life because she's practically lost everything and still trying to graduate from high school. To make matters worse,

So when I saw the title Fries Before Guys it definitely struck a chord. Lani Lynn Vale is nothing if she is not twisty in her stories. But add that this is book 2 of the SWAT Generation 2.0 Series and I was more than hooked. The collection of stories from the preceding series and now this one have held me captive. I am not passing up a single opportunity to enjoy more and more antics with the fellas from KPD.

This is the story of Avery Flynn, oh and Derek Roberts, the hunky Mr. February, yes he’s in here too!

I will say straight up my eyes leaked tears from the heartache Avery had been through, the build-up of that devastating time in her life and the descriptions so poignant I’d defy anyone to not get choked up. Avery is such a strong, brave young woman who had so much go wrong in her life, yet, got back up each time determined to keep going by herself. I felt a lot of admiration for the young woman

Continuing with the premise from Just Kidding with the SWAT team being models for a charity calendar, Derek Roberts is Mr February, with the story beginning at the photo shoot and Avery Flynn being the photographer. Derek is a second generation SWAT team member, his family is

Simply put FRIES BEFORE GUYS is an sweet, emotional and sexy story!!!! It will require some Kleenex.

Avery, poor sweet, can’t get a break Avery. In the span of just a couple of years her world was torn apart and torn upside down and the hits keep coming. She is working on trying to graduate high school, she’s 19 and had to skip a year because of the traumatic, life changing experiences she has gone through. She’s literally all on her own and has become a photographer to support herself. No

Oh my! This book was filled with the author signature characters, amazing plot, heart breaking scenes and then topped with an amazing ending for these characters. My heart break for Avery and everything she went through in her short life. If you read the first book in this series then you know that her parents did but it was much more then that. A few times my heart felt like it was going to sob for her.

I loved seeing the other characters that I feel in love with this author
