Long before the blitz of ‘modern age’ wiped away our patience, it was stories that were the most potent medium to transfer the accumulated wisdom of mankind. From politics to spirituality, and from commerce to war, stories were used as a knowledge tool.
The bestselling author, voracious reader and accomplished technology professional that Dev Prasad is, he always felt the irresistible need of reinventing and revitalizing storytelling to address problems of modern-day living. The present volume is born of that effort.

More than a carefully collated anthology of tales both ancient and new, and anecdotes, both personal and apocryphal, From Vedanta to WhatsApp is meant to be a ready reckoner for one and all, as we wade through the challenges of everyday life.

So keep that smartphone away and dive into the addictive world of storytelling!

'From Vedanta to What's app' by Dev Prasad is attractive by title and I give full marks to the author to choose such an apt title for its anthology

Along with the title the cover page of the book works very well as it's very soothing and very apt to the content as well as the title.

This is a collection of 60 stories some of which are from ancient times and some from the various inspirational what's app and Facebook posts that we are used to reading. The added feature that's very unique is that the author relates these stories to his personal life or to events occurring in the recent times to make it more contemporary

The book is divided into six sections or topics and stories are around those topics.

The stories are written in a very uncomplicated manner with apt explanation where necessary. This book can be read by all age groups. It is one of those books where you can enjoy it gradually one story at a time and according to me that would be a perfect way to do it. This also can be enjoyed reading the entire book at a stretch.

The stories are very relevant to modern times and circumstances. This can be equally enjoyed by all levels of readers. This could also be a good bed time read for parents to spend time with children.

Thank you to the publisher for sending me a review copy and the opinions expressed are entirely my own.

This is one of such book that I just can’t put into one specific category. It’s self-help in a way, it’s a reflection of society in another manner and from one viewpoint, you can see it as a meaningful guide as well. I’ll leave it upon you to decide how you see in as you read my review.

The thing I enjoyed in this book most was how, instead of giving away life lessons or directly talking around what the author wanted readers to understand, we get a chance to explore some meaningful stories. And all of them come from different eras of time, just like the name says, from the time of Vedanta to the today’s Whatsapp society. The collection of ancient and modern stories have each of them being interpreted by the author in unique ways.

Some people might find reflection of themselves in it, some might just find a few tips to go through their daily life with enough motivation and inspiration. For the rest of us, this book is still going to be an enjoyable read. That’s what I’m expecting from most of the fiction and non-fiction books. I want to enjoy them at least, even if I don’t take anything away. Fortunately, I did take a couple of lessons from it along with some reading hours that were well spent.

The stories, being short, follow a fast paced which won’t fulfill the desire of the details but will only be large enough to let you understand what is happening and why is this story a part of this book. The way the art of storytelling is portrayed even with the changing times, in this book; that’s one well worked element from the author’s part which most of regular readers can praise.

Now, if you want a book that is a quick read or if you only get a few minutes to read every day and you just want one tiny but meaningful story at a time, this book is for you.

Lucky are the children who get a chance to listen to the stories narrated by their grandmothers. This one of those books that contains short stories that are a confluence of personal experience, rigorous research and a few take-aways. No, this is not philosophy. Instead, it attempts to make us realize how detached we have become from the essentials that are needed to constitute a human- empathy, sympathy, patience, goodwill and respect. The era of technology has seen a drastic change in the mindset of the people in terms of ignorance towards concern and also a carefree attitude for every other matter in life. Hence, the author adopts the conventional way of raising awareness- books!

We get uncountable WhatsApp messages with moral Stories, anecdotes, quotes, real-time accounts, inspirations etc, everyday in those innumerable groups we are a part of, and which we don't even care to read. Dev Prasad has collected such stories, matched them with his own experiences and gave us this book. Aptly named, From Vedanta to Whatsapp, the book has retellings of stories from the book of time that are relevant even today.
The only other book of such a stature to my knowledge is Wise and Otherwise by Sudha Murthy. This was one of the books that actually made me fall in love with reading.

From Vedanta to Whatsapp is refreshing read. An apt birthday gift for the young and old. A sure thing to be in every school library. Not many book have this charm now a days.

Cheers!!

Every once in a while you come across a book that really makes you think hard. From Vedanta to WhatsApp is a collection of stories and anecdotes that take inspiration from our spiritual texts and links them to our daily dose of WhatsApp forwards. The author ties together these little stories with meaningful explanations on how we can apply them to our life and modify our thoughts, feelings and behavior for self growth. Great read.
